Get ready. Tickets are out this week Tickets for Azkals vs Guam out this weekWed. May. 23, 2012 By Jerome S. Galunan Jr., Watchmen Daily Journal/SCOOP-Bacolod BACOLOD City, Philippines -- TICKETS for the Azkals vs Guam friendly in Bacolod city, Negros Occidental will be out this week Azkals team coordinator Patrick Ace Bright told Watchmen Daily Journal following Azkals team manager Dan Palami's announcement that the Philippine National football team will clash with the Guam team on June 12 at the Panaad Park and stadium. The tickets will be sold through the Ticket World while the prices will be known when the tickets are out, Bright said. The Azkals-Guam match is another football offer from the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) to the Negrenses following the overwhelming support shown by the local fans to the national team. This is the second time that the national squad will be facing a foreign squad in this stadium after the February 9, 2011 victory over Mongolia in their AFC Challenge Cup Pre-qualifying match. The nationals won 2-nil before the roaring 25, 000 spectators watching in Panaad. Meanwhile, in preparation for these friendly matches, the national team are in San Carlos City undergoing a week-long training camp which started in May 21. According to reports, not all Azkals standouts will be playing in this match due to their prior commitments. National team head coach Michael Wiess however assured that he will still be fielding a strong team for this friendly match. He has tapped several top football players from the United Football League to boast the team. Meanwhile, the Azkals are also scheduled to face Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on June 1 and will play Indonesia on June 5 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. In their match against Malaysia, ABS-CBN reported that the national team will be playing without striker Phil Younghusband, midfielder James Younghusband and first-choice goalkeeper Neil Etheridge. This after the Younghusand siblings had prior commitments while Etheridge is serving a one-match suspension meted out by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) due to “unsportsmanlike conduct” during the AFC Challenge Cup last month. Etheridge will be working as the guest match analyst during the match coverage for ABS-CBN Sports. But they will suit up for the Azkals when they play Indonesia on June 5 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium and Guam on June 12 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod. Romero sees big opportunityGuam's Jonahan Romero may be playing professional soccer in the Philippines, but he has not forgotten his roots. Romero plays for the Kaya Futbol Club, but returned home Monday to train with the Guam national team in preparation for its game against the Azkals, the Philippines' national soccer team, on their home soil. "Everyone is saying the Azkals shouldn't play us, but I want to thank them for giving us the match on June 12," Romero said via email. "We want to put our little island on the map and move up in the FIFA ranks."The game against the Azkals will be a great opportunity for the Guam national team to show its talent. He said the team's new coach, Gary White, has been conducting rigorous training both in the morning and at night. The Philippine soccer season is on a short break, which gave Romero the chance to train with the local team. He also clarified that his training with the Guam team does not conflict with being part of the Kaya Futbol Club. "Head coach Gary White and Kaya coach Kale Alvarez, as well as management, came to an agreement about how long I can be here on island before reporting back to Kaya duties." Kaya FC currently is first in the United Football League standings, but its season has been tough. "We went through a rough patch in the middle of the season with our coach leaving," he said. "Many people thought that our season was over and that we had no chance to contend for a title, and now look at us. We're up there with the best of the best." Despite the team's victories, Romero understands that even greater effort is needed in order for Kaya to win the title. Either way, the player is proud of his Kaya family for staying strong during the tough times. "My career with the Kaya Futbol Club has been a great one," said Romero. "The best part ... is that we are a family. They take good care of us players." Through personal example, Romero hopes to help soccer grow in Guam. He wants the island to see that the sport is here to stay, and he hopes that island residents will encourage its growth by supporting not only the national team, but also local leagues and all players. As a professional athlete, Romero's goal is to successfully finish his last two Kaya games and then prepare for the East Asian Games. For now, he is focusing on getting ready to play against the Philippine Azkals, a team that includes a few of his "good buddies." Romero believes the most important thing is for the Guam players to have confidence. "I want the players from Guam to see that we have talent," said Romero. "We just need to play with confidence and work toward our goals. No one is going to give us nothing. We have to take it." www.guampdn.com/article/20120526/SPORTS/205260322/Romero-sees-big-opportunity

Don't you guys just love the pictures of the governor and vice-governor? No pictures of the players, no, that wouldn't be right because the politicians are the stars who brought the game over! Just makes me wonder about the type of politics the Azkals and PFF have to deal with when putting up a game in Panaad.
