Happy New Year, Wiking!
2012 is already shaping up well: Arsenal is up at 4th place, Thierry Henry is coming home, and it looks like it's going to be a busy year for the Azkals.
Cheers!

From what I'm hearing now, the coaching staff would still insist on fielding more or less the same squad used during the 2011 SEA Games for the Bolkiah Trophy, albeit U-21s, plus some older players. I suppose these SEA Games players might be called up for the U-21 team: 1. Paolo Pascual (GK) 2. Jacques Van Bossche (DF) 3. Reymark Fernandez (DF) 4. OJ Porteria (MF) 5. Manny Ott (MF) // Possible captain/co-captain 6. Patrick Hinrichsen (MF) 7. Mark Drinkuth (MF) 8. Jeffrey Christiaens (MF) 9. Mark Hartmann* (MF/FW) 10. Marwin Angeles (MF) 11. Joshua Beloya McNally (FW) 12. OJ Clariño (FW) 13. Jinggoy Valmayor (FW) 14. Christopher Camcam (GK) Plus if I were to choose the 5 over-age players, I would pick these: 1. Jason de Jong (MF) // I would make him captain alongside Ott 2. Carli de Murga (DF) 3. David Basa (DF) 4. Neckson Leonora (DF) 5. Matthew Hartmann (MF)* or Jake Morallo (MF) *I am so unsure of the Hartmann brothers if they are still in Palami's doghouse. If Matt is unable to do so, I'd take Morallo, or better yet... On the other hand, we are still waiting for the confirmation of Kevin Ingreso, Matthew Uy, Demitrius Omphroy, and the others to join in the training pool. This is definitely exciting! ;D

You must have forgot that there is a friendly against Malaysia on Feb 29 and preparations for AFC Challenge Cup.
Hassan Bolkiah Cup is from Feb 25 to March 5. I expect Ott , de Murga and De Jong to be in the AFC Challenge Cup squad , maybe also some other players from your list.

Having vacant spots for the U-21 team, as some of the SEA Games players would be suiting up for the Malaysia friendly and the Challenge Cup, would mean spots for new recruits. We've got prospects in Kevin Ingreso, Luke Woodland, Adam Reed, and the others. And maybe pick up some from the U-19 "Musangs" team as well. Not only that, our fellow Gerardo de Clercq is doing his best to join the training pool for this tourney. From my last chat with him, he is to finalize his passport application and he has already had contacts with Rob Gier, and has been referred to the coaching staff. Gonna be exciting. ;D

A nice article by Roy Moore here: www.pinoyfootball.com/index.php?page=newsupdates&newsId=11100145A quote concerning the HBT and SEAG: "The squad will include the likes of Joshua Beloya, who scored two late goals to give the Philippines a 3-2 win over Laos, OJ Clariño, Paolo Pascual, Jinggoy Valmayor, and Reymark Fernandez among other up and coming players who will be given the chance to play together in their more natural positions." I thought I was the only one that noticed the current "coach's" penchant for disastrous experimentation. Either way it was a nice and well informed article.

OH-SON OUT TO CREATE HISTORY IN HBT 2012BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (5 Jan 2012) – Brunei chief coach Kwon Oh-Son will be out to create history when his team take part in the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy (HBT) 2012 next month. In the three editions (2002, 2005 and 2007) which the Sultanate side has organized, Brunei have yet to make past the group stage. This has prompted Oh-Son to set the target of at least making the semi-finals of the event slated for 25 February to 5 March 2012. “We will be targeting a semi-final berth,” said Oh-Son. “The boys are not intimidated playing against teams like Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Malaysia. “We will continue to train harder and improve, and it is not impossible that we will manage to give a fight to the other teams.” The Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy (HBT), which is the brainchild of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, was organised for ASEAN teams under the age of 21-years-old, although this time round, the organisers have allowed the use of five over-aged players. Oh-Son said that the team has been hard at work in preparation for the tournament where their recent silver-winning outing at the 4th Borneo Games is a cause for confidence. “Most of the squad played during the Borneo Games success, but we need to remain focused, and train harder,” said Oh-Son. “They are tired from all the intensive training, but mentally and psychologically, they will benefit and will see improvements in their performances. “In terms of mentality, psychology and team play, I am delighted with their progress. The team are united, and we work as one.” Thailand were the winners in 2005 and 2007 while Indonesia picked up the inaugural crown in 2002. www.aseanfootball.org/?p=7309

Almost halfway through Jan and no official practices yet? I hope they don't use the "we only had 2 months to practice" excuse. They had half of December and all of Jan to do something. I'm thinking they need someone to handle the youth side of the National Team and another for the Senior side. That way no one can say "I've been so busy with..."
SEAG results revisited?

I believe the local U21 players are busy preparing for the new UFL season , and dont have much time for practices for HBT 2012 now ?

The solution might be to have our age-group youth teams play in the UFL like the Harimau Muda A & B, something the PFF hopefully considers in the future.

SEAG results revisited? wiking, i wouldn't worry to much about this . it's better for most players to prepare and play competition with their own teams and come together 1 or 2 weeks before the tournament . it was different for the SEA games since it was the first time for all of them to see each other and play together . now they had the sea-game experience and know much better what each player can and can not . now it's more a question of playing together a couple of times in a year , be it for a tournament or for a trainingweek . this is how most national teams work . don't forget football exists because of the clubs -clubs who invest a lot of time and money in development of players- not because of the national teams , players are given the freedom by the clubs to play for the national teams . normally a national coach goes around and scouts his players and possible new ones when playing for their team, he then calls them up, if they are not in shape or injured he leaves them home . anyway this is only a preparation tournament for 2013, one of the more (?) coming i hope .

carabao, I hope you are right. I suppose we could copy what c_d(see post above yours) has mentioned, having an age group team competing in the UFL 1st or 2nd div. Unfortunately WE do have a cause for worry(please read this thread from page 1). Some of our opponents have been(since late last year) playing their U21 teams in competitive games whilst we have not. We have a new coach which means new system and match fitness compared to most of the opponents is another thing since practice for the HBT is only suppose to start next Monday? I understand we are new to all of this, yet I cannot but think that we could have planned and used what time we had to organize/plan things better(which we didn't). I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. carabao check your PM.

ASEAN + 1 at Feb's HBT All 10 ASEAN member nations, plus guests Timor Leste, will play in Feb 25- March 5 competitionALL 10 ASEAN member nations, plus guests Timor Leste, will be taking to the field for next month's Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy (HBT)."
We have already received confirmation from all the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries ... including (guests) Timor Leste," a National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) official told The Brunei Times yesterday."We are looking forward to watching some good games and getting a lot of public support," added the official ahead of the Feb 25- March 5 competition.
ASEAN groups Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Preparation for the biennial tournament is shifting gears, with the registration for players closing on Tuesday and the national team in their final phase of training. The confirmation that a full-field of 11 teams will be in town for the Under-21 tournament should be welcomed with open arms by local football fans considering this will be the biggest tournament that Brunei will be hosting in years.
International football in Brunei came to a standstill in October, 2009 when FIFA suspended Brunei, preventing the Sultanate from hosting the HBT for what would have been the fourth time. But it has been business as usual since Brunei was re-admitted back in FIFA last May, with the country's sternest test since then the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Jakarta last November.
The same 11 countries competed at the Nov 11-22 SEA Games, where Malaysia took gold after beating hosts Indonesia 4-3 on penalties having seen the final match end 1-1. Though their star might have faded on the regional scene, two-time champions Thailand still look to be the team to beat when it comes to the HBT.They enter as titleholders after squeezing past Myanmar 5-4 on penalties the last time the event was contested in 2007. Thailand also beat Myanmar to lift the 2005 edition of the trophy.Indonesia won the inaugural competition in 2002.Though their new coach Widodo Cahyono Putro was quoted on the Asean Football Federation (AFF) website as saying that the team have not even decided where to hold centralised training, he was confident his side will be able to put up a good showing considering "the various quality players they have".Tournament rules allow for five senior players in each team an exemption that Malaysia don't seem to be interested in.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced last month that it will be sending the country's Under-19 squad (Harimau Muda B) to the HBT, a decision made with an eye to the future.Vietnam and Singapore can also count themselves as favourites to lift the trophy come March 5.Though the national team may not be as experienced as their counterparts, national coach Kwon Oh-son insists they will not be intimidated by their opponents. The evergreen South Korean coach also insists the team are good enough to qualify for the second-round (semi-finals).If he keeps his word, it will be the first time the hosts will have progressed past the group stages after failing to make it through during the previous three attempts.

Finally word that the first practice will be Monday Jan 16th! Hopefully most of the same players from the SEAG will play for the sake of familiarity and continuity. No "U17 coach" means no Forwards in the Left Back position, no Midfielder in the Center Back positions and a more coherent game plan(no attack at all cost BS!) and strategy/tactics more in line with the actual skills of the players involved. But who the hell is the new coach?!
6 weeks to go, I hope the new coach can get these kids back on track.
No medal talk, no top 3 finishes. I'll be very happy if we have a .500 record.
HBT administration has allowed inclusion of 5 overage players. How about trying out some of our newer recruits? 1) Demit Omphroy(I don't think he's coming though) 2) Denis Wolf(He'll be in the Philippines this Monday) 3) Angelo Verheye(coming around Feb 14th/passport issue fixed/not overage) 4) Jerry Barbaso(raise your hands if you think this guy CAN PLAY... thought so) 5) Reymark Fernandez(trained with SEAG team but DNP, "U17 coach" was high on him then suddenly he was a DNPer, what happened?)
Lastly, Mark Hartmann, he needs to play, though he'd had a pretty rough going late last year, he showed maturity when his brother Matt abandoned the team and he stayed and even played well in the latter half of the SEAG. With the right position and good coaching, I think this kid can redeem himself with his play and none "fangirl" fans.
