"In a text message to GMA News Online, PFF treasurer Bonnie Ladrido explained the PFF only has a support role in the staging of the exhibition match and is not involved in ticket pricing. "Our role will be to provide the national team, technical support and manpower," Ladrido clarified. GMA News " PFF is taking no financial risk in this match ? Exactly my thoughts, Jonny. That's my conclusion if I read between the lines. That the PFF is somewhat distancing themselves to hedge against the possibility of a failed financial venture. If that's the case, which I think it will be, let me say that it will be yet another lesson learned for the PFF and the football community. I say: 1. The PFF should be more possessive and guarded of the Azkals and not enter into these partnerships without assessing the risks, financial or otherwise. 2. The community isn't ready for something like this yet in light of the ticket cost to make this successful.

With such prices I dont expect more than 5000 at this match and a huge financial loss . Who is taking this loss ? Paying 3000 pesos to watch LA Galaxy practising the day before the match ? Crazy !

The point made about our stadium being too small is valid. I kinda understand now... although I do feel frustrated for the average Juan and Juanita who might not be able to afford it. But then again, the average Juan might spend this much for firecrackers, right? (Hmmm... that's a thought... it might actually be a quieter Christmas with less accidents! Maybe they should title the match "SAVE YOUR FINGERS - DON'T BUY FIRECRACKERS, BUY A TICKET TO THE GALAXY-AZKALS SHOW!") Caz, i like your idea of a butler service... but with Playboy bunnies perhaps?

Haha! The bunnies are for the box seats up top. While I don't think many people will buy tickets for the practice, I actually think the match day seats will sell well. It's clear that the live game isn't for the average Juan (they've got TV for that anyways) and not many even know of the LA Galaxy as a team. Nope, this one's for the celebs, politicians, execs, and their friends. A private party of sorts. And I think they'll buy the place out. That being said, it's still good that they're coming here. I dare say there's no footballer who can transcend the sport better than Becks. He'll get the football-curious to watch the game on TV. There'll be viewing parties, etc. If anything it'll be added pressure on the broadcasters to have a pristine coverage of the match due to the potential awareness of the sport. If this match does well, and I think it will (though I may be wrong, of course), there'll be more sponsors coming in for future matches with visiting clubs which could help curb ticket prices in the future. A good investment would be those digital ad boards that run along the sidelines. So unless we get a bigger stadium, could Rizal end up like a football-Monaco each time clubs come in from abroad? On another note, I think we all feel that the Galaxy is no Barcelona FC. But they are reasonably good and have a good chance of being MLS Champs in over a week. Do we stand a chance of winning?

I still don't think that this will be a sold out match, but im keeping my hopes up. After all, Philippine Football needs a boost internationally. Through this, perhaps we can lure the interest of our foreign based players who are not yet capped. Im still thinking of buying one and hopefully i will be standing in the midst of THOUSANDS not hundreds but YES THOUSANDS of fans.

just an idea,
maybe could they get the pac to promote this match? or perhaps a beckham/donovan appearance on pac's match day (too bad it wasn't exploited while pacquiao was still training at LA)?
it would definitely help sell the match to those who could afford it...

In the future, it might be a good idea as well for the PFF to hold a few of this games in the US, possibly even at the LA Galaxy home stadium in California. There is a sizeable population of Filipinos in the California(1.2 million), who can easily afford to watch those games and possibly sell out the smaller capacity soccer stadiums(around 20,000 man capacity) .
There is a precedent for this. The Mexicans have a special arrangement with SUM, the marketing arm of the USSF to hold their games here in the US, as they have been known to sell out even 100,000 man capacity American football(NFL) stadiums, which help earn a tidy income for both the Mexican and USSF federations.
The PFF could make the same arrangements as well. It would help fund the various programs of the PFF, while giving our national team exposure to competitive teams on a regular basis.

Agreed, this could open talks for friendlies in say, the home depot center, which I believe the pinoys in CA would easily fill. Here's hoping we're competitive in this friendly. That'll increase interest in such a game.
While the idea of Pacman and the Galaxy players getting together for some PR is a good one, they're all too busy with their own things right now. Donovan even begged off international duty.
By the way, Ticketworld sales of tickets are still on hold. Perhaps there's a price drop coming? Just speculating...

The galaxy v azkals game is not worth to watch considering the ticket prices. Another friendly flop for our NT, like the nepal game in which no more than half of rizal is filled. We should host tournaments and not money making matches in promoting football. I'll pay that much if Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Real Madrid or Barcelona and bigger european clubs would come here, but not a club from MLS.

there's someone who tweeted to santi araneta:
"@santiaraneta Sir, tweet niyo kaya na kung gusto nila ng libreng game eh manood sila ng UFL. They're so mad abt the Galaxy match but never show up for local games."

Off the current discussion, but would it be in poor taste for someone to wear a Galaxy shirt in Rizal on match day? I remember watching videos of clubs visiting Malaysia and nearly everyone there was wearing the visiting club's kit, not the National team's. Nevertheless, although I'm a Galaxy supporter for the MLS, I'll be wearing my Mizuno RP kit if I land a ticket.

We're not at the point where club culture has taken over like what has transpired with our fellow SEAsian neighbors. Remember the Man U guy who had to remove his shirt when Liverpool was there in KL?
It makes sense that having club friendlies elsewhere would be a good idea. Let's take advantage of the diaspora and have the games where there is a large Filipino community. I am actually for the idea of the Azkals being the sparring partners for countries that have qualified for Euro 2012, just to get some jelling with the team and to remove distractions.
