Looking at the bigger picture I think were still in good shape. Remember Singapore is very much in form after beating Suzuki Cup champions Malaysia and having their WC qualifier against China taken from right under their noses despite deserving to win. At first glance falling 2-nil after drawing them in the Suzuki Cup is a step back. Especially considering we fielded a better side yesterday as compared to what Simon had at his disposal. With that said, if you remember the Singapore match in 2010 we played nearly that entire match without the ball at our feet. We had our backs against the wall the entire match and Neil kept us in it. We were lucky to score an equalizer in stoppage time with some terrible defending by SG in a campaign where they themselves was lacking in luster. But last night against a rejuvenated Lions squad, I was quite surprised especially in the beginning of the match. Our quality players translated into quality possessions. We were forming triangles on the pitch, efficient attacks on the wings and getting good attacks into the final third. Our defense was compact and collected and had the threat of going forward. This is something I have never seen from the Azkals in all my years of following them and against a SEA powerhouse. HEck of you told me a year ago we'd play this kind of game against SG, I'd be happy! I guess my standards were kinda low given I estimated it'd take us 50 years to catch up with the level of play with our neighbors. Yet here we are! Considering this team had no practice together I could really take away a lot given this in all in line to prepare for 2012. This group of guys won't have much chances to build cohesion till the Challenge Cup. So let's be patient with their growing pains. Yesterday's match is something we could build-on and if we improve we'll be ready to compete for a spot in Australia(considering Nokor misses their flight). But with that said, there are a lot of negatives to take out of this game as well. We got punished for a defensive lap on the 2nd goal(good teams punish you for every mistake) as well as our finishing and play in the final third leaves a lot to be desired. We really need that clinical finisher. These things alongside cohesion of course had to be addressed. Regarding coaching, I don't want to comment given I don't know enough of the deal with the DFB. But it looks like were with Weiss till the Suzuki Cup and I hope he makes everything come together when we need it the most. He hasn't lost to a team we weren't supposed to with enough quality options at his disposal. But if something unfavorable happens on Tuesday...hmmmm Still whether is Pep, Jose or some dishwasher holding the reins of our national team, let's not confuse support of country with gloryhunting. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Thanks for the timely reminder Katipunero for all of us to catch our breath and look at the big picture and be objective. I also would like to refer to one of buddha's post reminding us all of Philippine football's dark ages because I do. I remember watching a Tiger Cup match several years ago where we scored a goal and the goalscorer (I forgot whom) did a body slide and everyone was pretty ecstatic with the goal. Only thing was we were 3 goals down by that time already. The foreign commentator on Star Sports channel said something like look at the Filipinos celebrating their goal, it's like they won the championship. That was pretty condescending and I remember those days. Back then we were happy to score a goal, pleased if we didn't get steamrollered and a draw was a monumental achievement. But these days, we can already afford to be pissed at losing, of giving away a win or almost taking 3 full points and with good reason at that too as we have been way, way much better since those days which wasn't that long ago if we are all to be honest with ourselves. As Katipunero stated, he's happy to see the Azkals play the way they are doing now, win, lose or draw. I am too. When we can go hit the cross bar on several occasions against Kuwait, score against them first in the second leg, go toe to toe against Singapore playing positive (albeit pretty risky) football I would say that is progress. Let us not forget, against Macau we were expecting a goalfest, well there were 27 shots from the Azkals in that match. Against Singapore we had 12 shots, Singapore had one less yet they made 2 count, we didn't. Mighty Barcelona was once beaten by a mid-table team who only had 2 shots the whole match which went in as opposed to Barcelona's more than a dozen shots. Perspective gentlemen and patience. This is a new project that just got started 9 months ago, what are the expectations? Remember that Dan Palami is the manager, he talked to the German Federation and to Weiss. We all know Dan has a vision and a project, the assistance package of the Germans is there to support that project. Weiss is the coach and Dan is the manager, the coach will adhere to the manager's vision. Knowing Mr. Palami, this is more than just winning matches, this is about building for the future. We don't know their roadmap and the metrics they have for gauging their progress, best we trust Dan to carry this through. He started this and I am sure he aims to finish it. We here talk the talk, Dan is out there doing the walk, and with what the Azkals have achieved under his stewardship, I would say the man knows what he is doing. So if there is anyone here who is in the best position to judge Weiss' performance, it is Mr. Dan Palami. I am sure that if Weiss is not up to scratch, Dan will do something about it. I don't know about some of you, but from the baseline in which I have known Philippine football to be I am pleased with how far we have progressed in such a short time. We now are respected opponents and taken seriously by our opponents. However, this is simply just the start, the beginning. It looks to me that some people here think we already are up there with the rest. This project is 9 months old, there's a long, hard road still up ahead. It's ironic, people who bash football give as one of their reasons that football is boring and frustrating to watch, the goal takes a long time in coming. Yet here we are, football aficionados and only just 9 months into a new long term project that has been reasonably successful so far and we are already so frustrated because we are not winning all our matches. Spain was a perennial underachiever before it all clicked for them decades later and the Dutch are highly rated yet haven't won the World Cup, and here we are pissed already that only after 9 months the coaching staff is still working out combinations and trying out various systems. Perspective gentlemen, and let me add patience, faith and belief. Generally speaking we are all happy to Football is back in the Philippines. And we all recognize the efforts of Mr. Palami, the new PFF management, the Azkals, and also the Mr. Weiss. With special commendation to Mr. Palami, he has done so much and he is doing it the right way, no doubt about it. And we as Filipinos football fan supports him all the way. Please don't get us wrong, we really support the team. That's why we are giving our inputs (be it positive and negative) because we really cared about Philippine Football. Yes we relatively new in the Football arena with just 9 months, but e are not pointing out the deficiencies we see (which in this case the coach) to bring Philippine football down but to for them to improve more. Afterall, we are all stakeholders of the progress of Philippine Football and it's future. I'm sure Mr. Palami would be smiling to see how "rabid" we are in this discussion.

My apologies that I clashed myself to a low-level of arguments but somehow some people has to discipline them even in this site. We have all the right to express our frustrations, but carry it with objectiveness and not subjectiveness, and most importantly be conscious of controlling your arrogance no matter if you know football quite well, because arrogance is equal to stupidity. My hats off to the mods for their patience but step on the plate when you have to. Mabuhay Azkals!

We should also realize that the management is aware of any repercussion that will come as a result of fielding naturalized players. Remember, quite a few of Azkals' supporters haven't fully embraced the presence of foreign-based players. How much more a naturalized footballer? Reprecussions like what? While I think it's not really necessary to get Naturalized player for our NT, but I don't thing it's a valid reason for our footall team to not get support. It's just a matter of educating the masses. If Singapore as well as hardcore European football countries have naturalized players. Why can't we? If Smart Gilas supporters cab accept Marcus Douthit, why can't Azkals accept the EL-Habbibs. PFF management must not take the sentiments of the few lambaster's and negative criticizers of the Azkals. As long as the grassroot programs for the youth and the UFL League efforts are sustained, then I don't see any reason for including Naturalized players for the Azkals (if they really need them forthe line-up). Like a backlash from fans. As I've said, they have not fully embraced Azkals with foreign blood how much more Azkals with no Filipino blood at all?

If any naturalized player wishes to play for the Azkals, they must achieve one monumental goal: Get the Filipino public to declare them as one of their own. Because other countries will gripe about why these players are on the team. Remember our public's reaction to Gonzales being on Indonesia's team? These naturalized pinoys will need the public to have their backs and say hey, he's one of us. That being said, really, we don't need all that jazz right now. We have great pinoys abroad and our local talent is starting to get noticed.

i've backread singapore's kailangroar forum, the poster hairi33 who reeks of discrimination like saying it won't be sold out unless it's a sunday, then later on said he eats his word because leticia and friends out in full force ; has this to say for our team - see alot of potential in Azkals. they just need a top quality coach... i mean really top quality...

For me its not really a good time to naturalized some players...Really don't care if we lose as long as we are progressing..We just have to develop the sports and create more awareness and UFL is a good start...El-habbibs is only known to filipino football fans and not majority know there whereabouts or where they coming from...

Pinoys tend to forget all the positives and highlight negatives once it is seen, just like coach weiss, with the teams progress we forgot why they're playing like that. A miscue and all the blame is on him, not even thinking that that team that lose did'nt practice even one scrimmage. You can have Messi, Kaka, Rooney, Buffon on one team but this doesn't translate to automatic winning without practice and chemistry playing together. great ones even need to learn how to play with his team and their tendencies. just my 2cents

Nag-alangan lang ako kasi baka kasi yung personalan lang ang pagbawal sa mga di purong Pinoy, just like the time when Fedigero was still NT coach. But As revealed and stressed out by cjeagle a few post back, this was carefully studied and planned by PFF. And since they know better what is best for Philippines Football than all of us airmchair football manager then we just have to support it.

I was devastated after the lost to Singapore and went back to the hotel from JBS right away to checkout the reactions from my fellow Azkal fans in this forum. I was surprised to see a lot of finger pointing and very disappointed with all of the accusations going around. Which is why I decided to take a couple of days to clear my head and let rationality take over.
I badly wanted to react to my fellow Azkal fans when they started to point fingers to our head coach and put all of the blame to him. I didn't because it seem useless.
All of us work hard to achieve our goals and we all know that it takes time.. and a lot of it! This is just the same with our team. For those who followed our national will be able to relate and see the improvements of our players under the system of coach Weiss but this doesnt mean that I don't have any opinion against him. Maybe after the Nepal match..
Lastly, there is no such thing as instant gratification in life. People work hard and again takes lots of time and patience to achieve it. Just like our national team. We have quality players and we need them to play together as much as possible. We just can't expect a win or even a draw against a team that has been rebuilding since the start of the year only because we have our best players in the field.
Only those who have experience of being part of a team will understand the importance of chemistry and cohesion. Especially in football.

Pinoys tend to forget all the positives and highlight negatives once it is seen, just like coach weiss, with the teams progress we forgot why they're playing like that. A miscue and all the blame is on him, not even thinking that that team that lose did'nt practice even one scrimmage. You can have Messi, Kaka, Rooney, Buffon on one team but this doesn't translate to automatic winning without practice and chemistry playing together. great ones even need to learn how to play with his team and their tendencies. just my 2cents Haayyyyyyyy...finally someone got it right..1 million percent agree with this post..how i wish fans here would have some knowledge before pointing the finger to the coach...just so many dumb people this forum... yeah we pinoys can be biased in defense for weiss kasi he's the coach of our national football team. so much so that we neglect the fact that the reasons they or we give in defending weiss like lack of cohesion was also present during macca's days. yet despite that plus having a weaker than what weiss has now, macca managed to win against strong opponents while weiss cannot. in the past i have been defending weiss not because i have seen what he can do but because one poster just had to resort to pulling one in order to raise another. napagod na siguro siya sa paulit-ulit niyang sinasabi na ganun nga. and to label posters here as dumb just shows who dumb person is. just because some people don't agree with many doesn't mean he's dumb. now, i just can't defend the guy anymore. he's had better players at his disposal, lack of cohesion couldn't be used as an excuse cos that was also present in macca's day, side by side comparisons shows the results speaks for itself. i'd take a singaporean's non-biased view with regards to his comments regarding our need to have a better top quality coach over any pinoy's biased view. his mind is clear from emotions as he is free from attachments because he isn't pinoy, thus he can think clearly. mind you, pack that singaporean for his racist views.on that one, i clearly don't agree with him.

Just be patient guys .... comparing Weiss and Macca is like comparing England and Germany. Macca's gameplan is cross, strike and pray ... typical EPL team mindset ... while weiss is a complete football ... typical german way too. The PFF choose the German way so we should be patient with it. Look at Japan now after being under the German Federation's help for so many years. Weiss is typical german and will instill it the way they know it. He is trying to instill a football culture the way the beautiful game should be played..... Complete football so dont complain about cohesion as complete football needs it so much.
If you want to win now, then Macca is the man. Just park the Bus and pary for a miracle. Is it the way you want philippine football to be known for?
On the other hand, sure Wiess has shortcomings. He is better as a trainer but I think not a manager. His players are physically fit but he lacks innovativeness. But again, the Philippines is just trying to have a Philippine team. Do you think PFF or the PSC have the money to pay $15l to $20k USD per month for a top quality coach?
