Defensive issues can never be blamed on the SBs playing too high (WB and SBs IMO are 2 different positions, and SBs have no part in the game anymore). Two situations about playing modern WBs: 1) Some teams can't have modern WBs because they don't play the ball well enough. US Longball style completely skips the midfield when playing (they might as well only have a back 4 and 2 strikers) 2) Midfield destroyers must cover the WB when forward. Double pivot midfields especially do this not only regularly but efficiently, except with the traditional English 4-4-2 and the stupid 1-CM/DM 4-3-3 (which is part of #1)....
I guess the Philippines is in a dilemma with both situations. The Philippines plays this longball style which is common in the US, and the Philippines gets super punished when the SBs play high. Barcelona's WBs play like traditional English wingers consistently since they just have so much possession. Teams can't score without the ball. So, instead of having SBs doing nothing, they go forward and attack without fear of the other team scoring. They're also the reason why Barcelona play with so much possession since they provide width at varying depths of the field. Not to mention that they only play with 1 destroyer, who plays as a sweeper in front of the back 4 making a dynamic 3-4-3. Swansea is another team that plays with these types of WBs, too, which makes their game the closest to Barcelona's in the EPL. It's really all about the numbers game: attack with as many people as possible; defend with as many people as possible. There's no real definition of a defensive and attacking line and is more about role-based play.
Germany is the perfect example of a team of modern WBs in a double pivot. They somtimes either make one of the pivots become a libero between the CBs, or make one of them play as a makeshift SB, both making a dynamic back 4. Their 4-2-3-1, like Madrid, keeps the man count high in areas that matter most, which is mostly the midfield.
Then again, I didn't see the game, but I'm just trying to say that it's the midfield that needs looked at and not actually the SBs playing too high.

Laos' 2nd half tactic to rough our players up worked. Most of our players lost their heads. Fatigue I suppose was also a factor in this match. It's our 3rd match in what, 6 days? which is ridiculous. Also, I'm not a fan of Araneta, but some of you guys are too harsh on him. Wolf looked tired, frustrated, and was ineffective, at least when Ian came on, he looked interested. Reichelt is a great prospect, but he's not starting XI material yet in my opinion. He was frustrating to watch last night. Lost the ball a number of times, kept on making bad decisions. James is still our best option there. The injury time given was fecking scandalous too.

i'm really frustrated. Weiss is not wise with his game plan. we need to sack him and replace him with a coach who has a wide experiencing of handling a senior team, not a youth team. and please please please no more Araneta. we need to get another young striker and CB as soon as possible! In terms of strikers, we actually do have options (Pasilan, Doctora, Mark Hartmann, Clarino, Valmayor, Porteria, Beloya, even Freddy G) but it's up to the coaching staff if they want to try them out. I think Bahadoran is better suited as a striker because of his strengths (superior speed) and weaknesses (no crossing ability).

I got worried when the cameraman pointed the camera at he crowd and not at the fight. Shouldn't they film it to be used as evidence later on? This should serve as a warning. This should be the last time we play in a volatile country. Countries like Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos should be avoided.
At may mga sundalo din sa laban. Isn't that scary?

well for araneta, he is too lazy there are 2 through ball to him but he didn't run to the ball. and he let it go outside the pitch. fatigue is one reason why we lose but the coaching staff must realized it..used substitution every game to full extent. they travel 3 countries in a span of 1 week. overall i see some positives on this game at lb,christieans did a tremendous job so as at rb carli schrock was awesome so as mulders.. reichelt needs some more experience to be effective in right wing.. sabio and gier both are steady at cb but SLOW of all the meely happened all the wrong passes happen....bakit pinoy pa rin ang kukutyain....christiaens had many errors, carli defense was too high...schrock chip passes majority are strong...well mulder bulldose those lao's instaed of showing we are a intelligent football player.....sabio also shows how failure his head was.....well gier atleast he scored one.....pero bakit pinoy pa rin araneta pa eh nagkabuhay nga nung pilit nya inatake ang kalaban though medyo.....somebody reichel..or whatever his name was...if it that kind of game he show he better in the bench........kung si caligdong magdribble ballhog ang tawag pero walang may nagcomment kay christians na ganun...o kay schrock though yes his way too good but ballhog is ballhog pero anu wala.....ngayon nagmukhang tanga ang phl team nagpauto laban sa lao at kumagat sa laro ng lao.....tapos ang sweet pa ng comment ng iba (unlike those who it different) "ok lang yan" better luck next time" bawi sa sunod" ...i dont get it..... note: im not a fan of araneta...but what im rooting for is the development of the locals.....reading some of the comments make me really laugh....wala na atang papuntahan ang mga locals nyan....

The opponents are playing very laos-y and their uniforms are laos-na. Seriously, 1st half not impressive. Chieffy lost the ball at least 3 times, but maybe he is having difficulty finding someone to pass to ie others not getting downfield fast enough? tough to tell with this coverage. Schrock continues to impress, but no one getting on the end - and many of the through balls a bit heavy... many of the players lost possesion also why comment on the midfileds and wolf that can not cope up with the attack....

wenden96, Naniniwala naman ako na may pagkakamali rin ang ating mga foreign-born players during that match.
But yes, being someone trying hard to overcome bias as I am one of the higher authorities of this forum, nakakalito nga talaga kung bakit sobra-sobra ang pangungutya sa mga local players, say Caligdong and Araneta. It's kind of like a double-edged sword kung kailangan din nating kutyain ang iba whose skill levels are way higher. I believe it's high time to get over with and publish our doubts over everyone in the team.
But remember, Admin and I, and every mod here are very particular when discussions turn into ad hominems (in layman's term, personal attacks), so although I encourage all of you of criticizing them, we need to establish manners here. We members aren't just the only ones reading this forum.

No reason for you to be so 'balat-sibuyas' now. This is not an ad hominem but you need to calm down now. Schrock's passes aren't too strong, its just that his recipient Ian Araneta is too slow. He has always been slow since 2006 Suzuki Cup. Mulders - what is wrong with using strength to make a path to the goal? We needed a goal so badly I don't care if we have o play physically to get it. This is not chess or netball bro.

It's true that Caligdong is ballhog. He is ballhog because not only does he dribble too much, he also doesn't like to share the ball in front of goal. So many times he could have made the extra pass, instead makes a poor decision and takes a shot. I can't blame people if they think Chieffy is a glory hunter. If It's the development of local football is what you are aiming for, then start a football team. That way you can teach young players all the basics and good habits. Don't blame fans from airing their frustrations. That will not really do anything to help the local players. And also they are all Pinoys. Not just Araneta, and Chiefy.

Bawi bawi na lang Mexico nga tinalo ang Brazil eh Gold medal match pa yun at nabigyan ng criticism's that time ni Neymar because of poor decisions sa pagbabad ng bola sakanya.
Sa criticism's normal na yun, kagaya ko nagsasabi ako ng mga napansin sa game, weaknesses, strengths, bad plays, what if's.. etc.. Sorry guys kung may foul na sakin.
Anyways.. May ups and downs sa world of Futbol at dito sa palagay ko bagay na bagay ang salitang "Kontra Pelo" na tinatamasa ng NT againts Laos.

Don't blame fans from airing their frustrations. That will not really do anything to help the local players. And also they are all Pinoys. Not just Araneta, and Chiefy. airing frustrations to a person within a team is a personal attack......it is an 11 man team in a 90 minute game.....errors happen every game....like yesterday as what ive said if were talking about errors there where a lot of errors in each of the players but no one notice it except for a locasl (with some exemption ) who played. I dont want to argue with the authenticity of our fil-foriegn players what im referring to is the local......I am a person that dont agree for the foreign base filipinos as a legit pinoy so lets not go there.....again im referring to local..... ballhog is a person who hugs the ball.....if its that what you mean how can caligdong be a ballhog if he can only dribble for short time...he is a winger, an attacking winger.winger has the right to dribble to find or look a sweet spot to pass or to strike a goal....james also do that but no one scrutinized it, shrock dribbles also from one end to other no dare to question it, christians was caught many times but few had question him. sometimes you have to educate fans those players are also people. They can just comment whatever they want they need to learn first and see all the perspective of the game, all the players and its function. modified...sorry nagmamadali nung ginawa...

On the plus side, I thought we were doing okay before the punch on Misagh. I'm slowly liking Christaens in the backline. He has the pace to eventually be very good at that spot. I've always thought that Laos was one of the most underrated teams in SEA. They can be dangerous but are also inconsistent. I thought they were keeping a good pace against us. It was a good match. Until of course we fell victim to bad calls and non-calls. On to the downfall, between the two teams the Azkals were the full time (and big time, in some cases) professionals. They should've acted that way and kept on playing the game. Our biggest loss is not in the final score, but on the sportsman front.
