Bacolod City, Philippines --- After many successful staging of international football matches at the Panaad Park and Stadium here in Bacolod City, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) again tapped the facility to host the Long Teng Cup tentatively this coming October 3-7, featuring the teams from the Philippines, Hongkong, Chinese Taipei and Macau.
This was confirmed yesterday by PFF member and Visayan Football League President Rafael ‘Juny’ Lizares. “We are working on it. However, we cannot afford to host it unless we get enough sponsors,” he explained.
PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta reportedly disclosed that instead of holding the meet in Manila, the federation decided to bring it to Bacolod since it’s more feasible in terms of financial requirements.
An estimated hosting cost of P5-6 million will be spent for this tournament, which is lower than the projected P 9 million if staged in Manila.
The said P5-6 million budget will include food and accommodation of the delegates as well as the match officials, and logistical requirements such as security.
Moreover, Araneta explained that Rizal Memorial Football Stadium is also scheduled for conversion into an artificial turf starting July and may not be finished the works in time of the tournament.
Meanwhile, this weeklong event will also serve as one of the final build-up for the Azkals before they do battle in the AFF Suzuki Cup later in November.
The Azkals finished second behind Hong Kong last year with a win and 2 draws as skipper Chieffy Caligdong also awarded the ‘golden boot’ after scoring four goals in the tournament.
