From Tupas latest article: Meanwhile, Araneta said the PFF is now looking at Pakistan as the fourth team to complete the cast in the Long Teng Cup, which could be moved to an earlier schedule in September.
Hong Kong has already begged off from joining the tournament it won last year in Kaohsiung. Araneta said the move to reschedule the tournament was meant to avoid a scheduling conflict with the Singapore Cup semifinal matches of the Loyola Meralco Sparks on the first week of October.sports.inquirer.net/53337/busy-suzuki-buildup-schedule-for-azkals

PFF mulls new date for 4-nation bashBy Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) Updated July 24, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0) View comments MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Football Federation is eyeing a late September schedule for the four-nation meet it is organizing in Bacolod City as part of the Azkals’ preparations for the AFF Suzuki Cup. PFF president Nonong Araneta said from the original slate of Oct. 12-16, the PFF is looking at new match dates of Sept. 25, 27, and 29 for the competitions that will feature Phl, Chinese Taipei and Macau and a fourth nation, possibly recent visitor Guam. “We’re setting an earlier schedule to give way to the participation of the Loyola Meralco Sparks in the semifinals of the RHB Singapore Cup in the first week of October,” Araneta said. The Sparks are bannered by two Azkals stalwarts, Fil-British brothers Phil and James Younghusband, and are set to face Singapore League powerhouse Tampines Rovers in the semifinals in October. The four-nation meet in Bacolod will be this year’s version of the Long Teng Cup, an annual international bootfest among the Filipinos, the Taiwanese, and players from Macau and Hong Kong, previously held in Kaoshiung. Last year’s champion Hong Kong had already begged off from the Bacolod tilt, according to Araneta, who added that they are looking at Guam to complete the roster. “We’ve already written Chinese Taipei and Macau if they are available for the new dates and we’ll probably know their answer by this week,” said Araneta. He added that the Guam Matao, who were in Phl last June 12 and dropped a 0-3 setback to the Azkals, will likely be invited to join this gig, having expressed interest to return to the City of Smiles.www.philstar.com/sportsarticle.aspx?articleid=830741&publicationsubcategoryid=69
What will be the games of Azkals on FIFA match days of Oct 12 to 16 if this is moved to an earlier date? Well this could be a training for YHS for Singapore Cup Semi-finals for 1st week. We'll know the confirmation of TPE and MAC by this week. I hope they will accept it

well ganito lng yan sir fadzki yeah the opponents that they choose are beatable ,but IMHO i do think theres a reason for that new tactics(maski un coach natin si attack attack attack or new players would fill the field).or ganito lng yan if we won the championship this year more hype for the azkal more products and tickets would sell if ever they play in a home match.just saying with a 2 centavos in my hand.

Will Coach Weiss risk the cohesion of all the players who will be training and playing for the Azkals from the start of there August Training Camp up to the Friendlies in November... when suddenly a week before the Suzuki cup our more skilled Euro-based players will be given a go signal by there clubs the play for the Country during the Suzuki Cup...
For Example would Coach Weiss play Dorlas at LB who has been training with the team this whole time or play the Better choice Cagara who only came 1 week before the Suzuki Cup...
for me who cares about Cohesion Cagara is way better than Dorlas he is going to start but I'm not a football Expert so I'm going to ask the people here who are football experts... if you are in the shoes of Coach Weiss(if this would happen) which player would you play?

AFF SUZUKI CUP: PFF To Organise Quadrangular Meet In SeptemberJuly 24, 2012 MANILA (24 July 2012) – The Philippines Football Federation (PFF) are looking at organising a quadrangular meet at the end of September as part of their preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup later this year. Mariano Araneta, the president of the PFF, said this week they are looking at possibly dates between 25-29 September for the meet involving the Philippines national side, Chinese Taipei and Macau and a fourth nation. “We’re setting an earlier schedule to give way to the participation of the Loyola Meralco Sparks in the semi-finals of the RHB Singapore Cup in the first week of October,” said Araneta. “We’ve already written to Chinese Taipei and Macau if they are available for the new dates and we’ll probably know their answer soon,” said Araneta. “Guam, who will likely be invited, have expressed their interest to take part.” www.aseanfootball.org/?p=8986&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Cagara can really help our team not only in defense but also in offense. during his caps with our NT, even though he only show up days or hours before the game, he still managed to help our team in many ways, he can easily adjust and i think because he is a defender. i guess cohesion matters most when you are a midfielder or striker. that's why when Schrock played against Malaysia, some of his teammates were having a hard time to understand his approach to the game. because he likes fast paced game and that's why they mess around. result? losing the ball quickly and seems like they cannot anticipate Schrock's through balls and long balls

Long Teng Cup? Not anymore it's PAULINO ALCANTARA CUP PFF invites Guam XI to 4-nation tournamentBy Cedelf P. Tupas Philippine Daily Inquirer 2:36 am | Saturday, July 28th, 2012 MANILA, Philippines—Guam has been invited to complete the cast in the four-nation Paulino Alcantara Cup set in Bacolod City that will form part of the preparation of the Philippine football team for the AFF Suzuki Cup. The tournament, which has been named after one of the greatest players to don the national colors in Alcantara, has already lured Macau and Chinese-Taipei. “Guam is interested in joining the tournament and they have been improving,” said Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta of the side that lost to the Azkals, 3-0, in a friendly in Bacolod City last June 12. Formerly known as the Long Teng Cup, the tournament has been renamed with the Philippines hosting it for the first time on the last week of September which marks a busy month for the Azkals who will play three matches early in the month. The door was open for Guam following the confirmation of Hong Kong that it is not joining the tournament that it has won the last two years in Taiwan. Meanwhile, the Philippine Football Federation on Thursday struck an agreement with Department of Education, which will now take an active role in the implementation of the Kasibulan program. “Its another boost for the sport as we expand the Kasibulan program,” said Araneta, after signing the agreement with DepEd secretary Armin Luistro. Under the agreement, the PFF will subsidize the training of football instructors from the ranks of DepEd and PFF. The federation is undertaking the program backed by Pagcor with the hope of discovering talents that will form the team bidding for a spot in the 2017 Under-17 World Cup. sports.inquirer.net/54669/pff-invites-guam-xi-to-4-nation-tournament

we cannot host a tournament with only 1 available stadium, there should be at least 2 stadiums because the last game between 4 teams should be played at the same time

we cannot host a tournament with only 1 available stadium, there should be at least 2 stadiums because the last game between 4 teams should be played at the same time i dont think it would matter since the LTC isnt a FIFA tournament although they consider the matches as friendlies. last year's LTC they only played at that nice stadium in Taiwan

News article via Jonny. Guam officially accepting PA Cup invite. Matao Moves Up 10 Spots In FIFA RanksWritten by Jill Espiritu Friday, 10 August 2012 14:26 Sports - Sports News Harmon, Guam - The Matao, Guam men’s national football team, will have another chance at improving its June performance against the Azkals, the Philippines’ national team, in the Paulino Alcantara Cup in September in Bacolod City, Philippines. With the Matao’s recent ten-spot jump in FIFA world rankings following its 3-0 victory over Macau in the East Asian Cup Preliminary Competition in July, the team received and accepted an invitation to compete in the tournament, formerly known as the Long Teng Cup, scheduled for September 25 to 29. “The invitation we received to play in this tournament is testament to all the hard work the team has put in to gain the respect on the pitch it deserves,” said Matao head coach Gary White. “The steady improvement the Matao has displayed over the past few months has caught the attention of higher-ranked opponents in the region; however, there is still much more to gain. “Competing in this tournament will be an excellent tune-up for the second round of the East Asian Cup in Hong Kong in December,” White added. A final 18-man traveling team roster will be released closer to the date of the tournament. The current squad has returned to training following the East Asian Cup preliminary competition last month. The four-nation tournament, which had been held previously in Taiwan the past two years, featured national teams invited from Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, the Philippines and Macau. Hong Kong won the inaugural and second edition of the annual tournament. The Philippines’ best finish was second place in 2011, despite its players taking Golden Boot honors both years – Ian Araneta in 2010 and Emelio “Chieffy” Caligdong in 2011. The Philippines currently is the highest-ranked team in the tournament at 150 in the world. Chinese Taipei is second at 175 with Guam at the former host country’s heels at 184. Macau enters as the lowest-ranked team in the tournament at No. 201 in the world. 2012 is Macau’s worst year in its history in official FIFA rankings, surpassing the 200-mark for the first time. Although Guam will not have a chance to play Hong Kong in the September tournament, the Matao will get its chance against the No. 152-ranked country in the second round of the East Asian Cup in December. Guam will find a familiar foe in Chinese Taipei, also competing in the East Asian Cup. North Korea, No. 91 in the world, is the other nation slated to also play in the December competition to be played in Hong Kong. A newcomer to the East Asian Football Federation, Australia, ranked No. 24 in the world, is anticipated to compete against the other four nations to qualify for the lone slot into the final round against Japan, South Korea and China in the biannual tournament. www.pacificnewscenter.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=26253:matao-moves-up-10-spots-in-fifa-ranks&catid=38:sports-news&Itemid=152ara

""... The Philippines currently is the highest-ranked team in the tournament ..." Won't it be better to have higer-ranked teams in this tournament? But then again, high-ranking teams will want to compete with other high-ranking teams.
