My take from last night's game was that the team was kinda out of sync in the first half and the early stages of the second half. They seem a bit tired and out of form. Hats off to Angel for his work rate and superb vision (and good decision) in finding Chieffy inside the box. Great strike from Chieffy and great save from Ed (2 minutes after Chieffy's goal).
Congratz Azkals!!!

congratulation to the azkals, winning against vietnam....proving that it is no fluke of defeating them last two years ago.
hail to angel in pounding the defensive line of the vietnam creating space for others...hail to chieffy for goal....hail to our defensive 4 and Edsa of keeping the vietnam forwards at bay and the last minute save to avoid the equalizing goal. hail to de jong's feistiness in holding the mids......
The el classico of the visayas football region join hands in achieving this win hehehehe...
My conviction in believing in the homegrown player has been proven, and always will believe in homegrown players that they can re-ignite the passion of football in the philippines. Develop the local youth/player.
Funny after reading either in this blog and other blog, no matter how mulders, PYH and JYH falters the game still few question their performance. But even caligdong deliver us the win and sacapano save us the embarassment of the equilizer still they where questioned in their delivery and performance. Funny no matter how they say that caligdong didnt have the first touch but still he adjusted to make the finish, even messi and xavi sometimes dont had a good first touch but still they adjust to finish for a goal.

chieffey's bad first touch was a blessing, had he controlled that guirado pass properly, his shot would have been blocked by the defender in front of him. instead the ball went towards his left, away from the defender's reach and into his favored left foot.... WHAM,,GOAL!!

This is not to disparage Chieffy's goal and his contribution to our win last night but IMHO, he is more effective as a sub. It was a great finish off a great pass from Angel. Unlike Margase and Araneta, he has proven that he still has a place in our NT. But, I also can't help but think that had the role been reversed, would Chieffy have passed or had the vision to see Angel's run? Or, would he do as he has done several times, make the attempt himself and not pass the ball to an open teammate? There were times during the match against Thailand and VN last night where instead of drawing defenders away from Cagara who was making a play he instead was standing in his way and almost bumped into him drawing defenders to the one handling the ball. It may sound that some are nitpicking on Chieffy, Ian and Margase but I think people are also sounding off their reasonable observations. Yes, there is always room for improvement but we can't just wallow in mediocrity while some players are playing catch up when we could have better choices. From what I read in other forums, PYH, JYH and the other guys also have their fair share of criticisms. I recall how much Sabio was criticized everywhere, but kudos to him for taking that on his stride and made himself better and worthy of his spot. I gotta admit though, the YH bros in particular may still get a pass in some respect, maybe because of their contributions to Philippine football and IMO that will not wane unless they completely bungled that up. Anyhoo, a win is a win. A goal is a goal. No matter how you slice and dice it, Chieffy's goal saved us. Congrats to the lads. It was so nerve racking last night. Kudos also to our defense for holding off Vietnam's attack and Sacapaño for his great saves. IA with you, I'm all for developing homegrown players and I echo the thoughts of those who were wishing that Deyto, Pasinabo, Pasilan, and other talented young players to get called and get their chance. P.S. I'm such a happy camper that no.2 got the captain's armband. Well deserved.

He's better off as a sub. It's clear he can't play the full 90 anymore. And he is also somewhat of a liability on defense, he doesn't always go back down to defend when we lose possession after pushing into the opponent's final third of the pitch.

Some of the comments have a point and have a good reason, but what Im referring is different...ika nga nanalo na pangungutya pa ginawa....as what Ive said, han smit even noticed it that mulders play under par especially on top with PYH but no one or few noticed it. Instead others was noticed, so I can call it nitpicking. Every players have a chance to improve and they are not stagnant always. For me I believe as a team no matter who's inside the field or a sub as long it jell and work and win. Though I agree with you it is time for margarse, araneta and gener to give up their slot and time to replace by a younger and have a promise to improve LOCAL players.

The team seemed to lack spark in most of the match, the subs made a world of difference. The Azkals shouldn't push themselves too hard in practices. I kinda think they're burned out with the big match against Thailand still heavy on their backs. But all the intense training is understandable, they just want to make sure they're well-prepared. Chieffy's goal was made possible by an unintentional deflection from his foot during that first touch. It's as if he sidestepped away from the defender and made the keeper second-guess where he'd be coming from. But that final strike, man, it was borne from killer instinct! Great goal. Shot was like threading a needle as it passed over and under a couple of Vietnamese. Phil just seemed battered and tired. Understandable. But he and James should rest. They're undoubtedly at their best on fresh legs so maybe a second half start is warranted. Angel and Wolf's aggression was a huge asset. I think they earned a start against Myanmar. Missed Misagh in this match. His long dribbling runs, though often a step or two too much, would have punched a hole in the Vietnamese backline. The defense was fantastic and arguably our strongest asset. They're not as in-your-face as I would have liked, seemingly always maintaining a firm formation, but they're quick to close the door when they have to. Jonsson had a busy night, I guess Vietnam knew he was the weak point of the backline playing off his favored position, but he did well. His focus on a rampaging winger was chilling. That glare could freeze a forward's blood as it did two years ago. Really, you could tell Vietnam was lost for ideas once they hit the defensive line. Unfortunately, the same could be said about our starting offense. And that slip of Phil, wide-open at 10 yards right smack in the middle in front of goal, is the kind of mistake that would take a loooong time for me to forget. Anyways, I'm super glad we walked away with the W and it'll bode well for FIFA ranking points (Vietnam being the only team ranked above us) as it'll cushion the blow from our last loss. Much work to be done before the Myanmar match but I hope the team rests well first. They've earned it.

Congratulations to the TEAM! BTW, I am SO HAPPY Rob Gier was the captain in the game. Well deserved! Natupad ang wish ko for him!

Kudos to the coaching staff for preparing a good strategic plan for the match and adjusted accordingly with the proper substitution.
I will still start Phil and James for the next match. They are still our main offensive option. We need to get their A-game back especially if we make a run in the semis.
Good substitution of Paul Mulders with Guirado (as I felt Paul seem tired from the last match). Angel created most of the chances (maybe better to pass first eh) and he really turned it on. I though he was very sluggish but the way he beat his defenders. We could have scored on two plays.
Because we now have depth in positions, Wolf and Chieffy came in the right time to give some spark offensively.
Also with JDJ on the field, no need to reserve the last sub for a defensive player.
If we led by half time then, probably Christaens or De Murga will be the substitutes.
MOTM: Reichelt, as he was involved offensively and defensively for both halves. Look at that pace even up to the 90th minute.
Some improvements are hold the possession, we were giving away or losing the ball so cheaply. I was also cringing when we can't get the ball.
But what's going on for us. We haven't reached our peaked yet. Hopefully it comes at the right time.
Let's go Azkals!

Yeah, saw from the stands that Mulders was breathing heavily (as if his heart rate is maxed out) and good thing he was subbed to rest. Reichelt is like Max Payne, just painkillers to revitalize.
