We have all been hearing calls for financial support from our government for our football team. Other Azkaleros have said that we should convince companies to fund the team.
If funding is the issue, why not do this by ourselves? With a number of over 14,000 fans on Facebook alone perhaps we can gather enough funds from our own pockets and help our beloved national team in some way? In England, clubs start out as being owned and funded by their own fans. The fans buy season tickets, merchandise and/or poolshare funds in order to sustain their team and to pay for transfers and players' salaries. Why don't we do this ourselves, Azkaleros?
We could chip in our own wealth, similar to what Mr. Dan Palami is doing, and we might gather enough funds to support the team. Just like the English clubs, we can elect a body of representatives or officers who can handle the funds that we gather and a board of directors to make sure the money is spent well. The election will be done by all of us Azkaleros.
This is a tremendous challenge for us, but it can be done with proper organization and support. Please post your opinions on this thread and don't hesitate to make further suggestions.
Mabuhay Azkals!

A little money goes a long way.
14,000 fans x 10 Pesos = 140,000 Pesos Imagine: 14,000 fans x 100 Pesos = 1.4M Pesos
Amiright?

a "cooperative" would be a good idea, but some people should start meeting and perform ad hoc tasks.

I hate to rain on everybody's parade but that cooperative thing is very work-intensive. And it's not that I'm trying to dampen everybody enthusiasms it's just that the good intention may result to something else.
That P10 pledge, for me, is the easiest to do but again, questions may be raised. Where will it go? Who will handle the money?
For me, the best option for now, is to buy the Mizuno jersey. That is one way of giving back to the company that believed in the team (when nobody else was willing to give). It's quite expensive, I know, that is why I'm still saving for it.
I am not going to stop you guys from pursuing this angle, but if I may suggest another angle to support the team, one that is needed after the Suzuki cup?
It's to keep the awareness, to keep the team on the news. you can do this by doing what you are doing right now, talk about it. The news websites, newspapers, will eventually go back to the way it was, pre-Suzuki cup.
We can help keep the momentum going by one, commenting on any Azkal-related story on their sight, badgering them why they don't have any Azkal-related news..things like that.
Asia Brewery is planning a Manila invitational, and there's the home-and-away game against Mongolia in the Challenge Cup, if stories like these get more hits and reactions than the PBA stories, perhaps the media will finally make that shift.
Just a suggestion guys.
Go Azkals!!!

Kaligo, you speak the truth.
My greatest fear, too, is that after the Suzuki Cup fever dies down so will media attention. Let's keep the snowball rolling after the Suzuki Cup by supporting the LBC United Football League. This has got to be one of the best leagues in the country... it's well organized, is building a fan base, and has marketing potential.
The day the UFL will figure out a viable way to involve provincial clubs (from Luzon to Mindanao) will be the day when football in our country will really take off.
AZKALS ASTIG!

I agree, we really need to support UFL. The National team doesnt play all year long. To keep the fever alive, we need to follow UFL. I just hope UFL have good marketing people on their hand. I keep on asking them when can they air the games but to no avail.
