Spain has La Furia Roja. France has Les Bleus. Germany has Die Mannschaft. Italy has La Squadra Azzurra. Come on, we pride ourselves of being able to come up with brilliant nicknames for our kids. Can't we do the same for our football team? Just a thought.

Oh, dear God. You guys must have misunderstood my intention. Don't get me wrong, I think Azkals is rather okay, and it captures the very essence of being Pinoy. What I intend to commence here is a list of name suggestions for our football team, what else could we name our football team, something like that.
I'm all for the ascent of football here in the country.

Yes Azkals sounds good. Weve been using it for years now. If you are trying try to change it or suggest another monicker, I think your in the wrong forum. You are surrounded by people who years ago decided to use the monicker Azkals. We had long debates and discussion before it was decided to use the monicker. As kikomatsing said "you should have been there when the most loyal fans created that name " then your opinion wouldve been heard. I think its to late to change it or even suggest a new one.

Not only are you surrounded here by people who debated calling the team AZKALS 5 years ago, you are surrounded by the whole country who have embraced not only the name AZKALS but also the team. Never before in Philippine football has there been such widespread regard for the team and the team name. The reaction of the mainstream was similar to the reaction we all got when we decided we would call the team AZKALS. After consultation with the team, capt Aly Borromeo embraced the idea of the name. In fact to show his support of the name he had t-shirts made for the team and coaching staff to wear at the SEA Games in Bacolod in 2005. We did the debate of all the names of teams around the world, all the animals and flowers of the Philippines and NONE of them spoke the truth of what Philippine football was all about. AZKALS said it all. Continues to say it and this nick name will remain with them because it is part of the folk lore of the rise and rise of the Philippine AZKALS football team in 2010. The majority of the country accepted it. As the saying goes . . .if it aint broke why fix it? ? FIRE THE BARK UP AZKALS. 2011 is going to be AZKALrific..

Today I read an article from the Inquirer. Terriblerefereeing if ever you had doubts as to what people think of the name AZKALS then you should read this article. But to help you out I have encapsulated some of the article for you below.
Our eyes have feasted on our football heroes known as Azkals. As a collective brand they have been music to our ears since their gritty stint in the semifinals of the prestigious Suzuki Cup. So it follows that the Azkals and football—hand-in-hand—should be household words by now— In this country, football is for fighting with bravery on a level playing field, as proven by the Azkals. Dan Palami, the Azkals’ team manager and Philippine football’s godfather acknowledges basketball’s octopus-like grip on the masses. “It’s kind of difficult to completely erase basketball from the national consciousness,” Palami explains. “It will be a massive job to make people realize that football, as personified by the Azkals, will give Filipinos better results in international competitions.” Newly recognized Philippine Football Federation president Mariano Araneta, a former national team skipper—with Palami’s support—plans to plunge football into the next level of advertising. The idea is to make the sport more accessible and sexier to the masses. The first step to re-branding is evaluating what works and what doesn’t for the signature product—the Azkals.
The sustained advertising blitz will include coaching clinics and exhibition matches featuring the Azkals in football hotbeds throughout the country; a sustained drive for a school-based grassroots program; the revival of country-wide age group tournaments; and holding a national championship with provincial legs coordinated by the PFF’s local federations.
Terriblerefereeing, . . You can see from that abridged article that the Philippine National Football team perse was not mentioned once in the article and yet everybody knew that when the AZKALS was mentioned they were talking about the Philippine National Football team. AZKALS has already become a brand name synonymous with football. And you want to change that? Thank God for Dan Palami who can see the value in the AZKAL name and IS going to use the name to make football sexier to the masses. Thank God Dan Palami is the one who has the vision, the passion and the marketing brains to move Philippine football forward.

Well, you can be sarcastic with your friends, because they know you're being sarcastic.
But in an Internet Forum named the Azkals? It's a wrong move.
I love sarcasm and humor, folks who know my identity knows that. The difference between you and me is that they know when I'm doing that.
I mean, what happens if you try to be sarcastic to a total stranger who's very fanatic about something?
