This is a "do or die" game especially for North Korea as they need to win in order to progress to the next round of FIFA WCQ. A draw or a loss will eliminate them from the qualifiers although they'll proceed to AFC Asian Cup qualifiers third round.
For us, we need to defend our home turf and prove that we learned lessons from our past mistakes. Hoping for a miracle and good attendance.

I think JYH lately is playing the CB position for Loyola in the UFL Cup, plus hoping to have a fitter Aly B. Expecting for him to be called up in the June friendlies. Also, if we have Ott and Schrock on board, I think Woodland can drop to the CB position. In AFF level I think attacks can be thwarted at the CDM position. Lately azkals have been playng at the high level, only teams such as Thailand and Vietnam are capable of breaching that mid.

Amani is doing well as CB, he also got some speed but juani is getting to be slow especially during counters. Perhaps Dooley should try Sabio, this guy was amazing during his time with the azkals. Boromeo is also getting his competitive form back. He was good in clearing those arial balls during AFC cup. Woodland plays well as Holding Mid, he was a bit shaky when he play as CB. Im still waiting for Ramsey to shine, he is a bit ineffective and I haven't seen his full potential yet.

Azkals vow win over North Korea in World Cup, Asian elims By Olmin Leyba MANILA, Philippines – After putting up what they considered as a strong showing in a 0-1 away defeat to world No. 74 Uzbekistan, the Philippine Azkals hope to get the job done against their next opponent in the joint Fifa World Cup-AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers – North Korea – which they host at the Rizal Memorial Stadium tomorrow night. “We want to continue the hard work (from the previous game) against Uzbekistan and use that momentum to get a good result against the No. 2 ranked team in our group (North Korea),” team manager Dan Palami said. Last Thursday, already saddled with personnel woes due to injuries, suspensions and retirement of key players, the Azkals found themselves further disadvantaged in Tashkent when OJ Porteria was sent off 10 minutes into the match against the White Wolves who were cheered on by 34,000 home fans. With Neil Etheridge making spectacular saves, Phl XI held its ground against Uzbeks’ searing assault most of the way but surrendered the game-winner to Anzur Isamailov. Uzbekistan leads Group H with 18 points followed by North Korea with 16, Bahrain with nine and Phl with seven. Misagh Bahadoran and Manny Ott, who served their suspensions in Tashkent, and Roland Muller, who was unavailable last week, have rejoined the Azkals for the duel with the Chollima. James Younghusband has also been called up but his brother Phil will still sit this one out due to injury. The Azkals had their training at Rizal yesterday, a day after arriving from Tashkent. North Korea, which took a bye in the March 24 fixtures, arrived in Manila Saturday morning and immediately trained there. “They (North Korea) are coming in fresh. They came ahead of us. But the players are eager to prove to the fans that we will be fighting from start to finish,” said Palami, whose wards previously bravely battled North Korea to a scoreless draw over in Pyongyang. It was a long flight back to Manila from the Uzbek capital via Incheon but the Azkals had ample rest at the Transit Hotel in Incheon Airport before eventually flying home. Although out of the 2018 World Cup, Phl is still in the hunt in the 2019 Asian Cup. A No. 3 standing at the end of group play will ensure the Pinoy booters outright qualification to third round of the Asian Cup. m.philstar.com/314195/show/0ff1c709356b3af054c6e810e207045d/?

Korea By CNN Philippines Staff Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — A familiar face will return to the Philippine Azkals' fold as James Younghusband was named to the 23-man pool from which the squad that will take on North Korea in the Asian Cup and World Cup Qualifiers will be formed. The elder Younghusband comes back to a national team pool that includes the rejuvenated Neil Etheridge, Roland Muller, and Iain Ramsay. Misagh Bahadoran and Manny Ott will also return after serving a one-game suspension. However, Phil Younghusband, Stephan Schrock, and Kevin Ingreso will have to sit out the match due to injuries. Other players that will comprise the pool are: - Amani Aguinaldo - Jorrel Aristorenas - Mario Clarino - Kenshiro Daniels - Dominic Del Rosario - Patrick Deyto - Daniel Gadia - Juani Guirado - Javier Patino - Patrick Reichelt - Simone Rota - Daisuke Sato - Martin Steuble - Miguel Tanton - Tomas Trigo - Dennis Villanueva - Luke Woodland The final match is set on Tuesday (March 29) at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. PH Azkals ready to attack North Korea By Cedelf P. Tupas INCHEON—Riding high on their fighting performance in the 0-1 loss against powerhouse Uzbekistan last Thursday, the Philippine Azkals return home brimming with confidence as they face North Korea for their last World Cup Qualifying match at Rizal Memorial Stadium on Tuesday. The Azkals are in a strong position to avoid a playoff for a third round spot in Asian Cup Qualifying even if they finish fourth in Group H. But that doesn’t mean coach Thomas Dooley’s side will take the clash for granted. “This is another very important game that I’m trying to get in the head of the players,” said Dooley. “Against North Korea, we need to play football. We need to attack.” Led by a standout performance from goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, the Azkals’ collective grit and resilience came to the fore last Thursday, frustrating the Uzbeks for long periods before ultimately falling, 0-1. The Azkals played the last 80 minutes with 10 men after OJ Porteria was sent off. “I am confident that after this game, with Neil’s outstanding performance against Uzbekistan, the defense knows now how to get the effort in to get a result,” said Dooley, whose team held North Korea to a scoreless draw in Pyongyang last October. Uzbekistan coach Samvel Babayan said the Azkals are capable of giving North Korea problems with their play. “I think their level is the same with North Korea at the moment,” said Babaylan whose team can clinch top spot in the group if North Korea loses to the Philippines. Stephan Schrock, Phil Younghusband and Kevin Ingreso remain sidelined due to injuries, but Dooley will have Misagh Bahadoran and Manny Ott back from suspension. “If we beat them at home, it will be a great milestone for us. We can play with confidence that we can beat big teams in the future,” said Dooley. m.inquirer.net/sports/209656

Apparently 36 y/o Juan Guirado is thinking of retiring after this game. Now its confirmed he just announced his retirement and wil captain the team vs North Korea tomorrow. Good for him he will get his formal sendoff with a proper press conference for WC/AC qualifiers and a farewell game. As we have discussed in other threads others retirees like Lucena, Mulders and Gier must have a proper send off like this.

Snow since 2 of our most reliable CBs have retired-gier and guirado, that leaves Amani and? The team should find a good replacement since the suzuki cup is coming shortly. I wonder why alvaro silva has not been called up again. We still have Ali Boromeo atleast and he does not lack experience playing in big games and so is Jason Sabio.

Yeah, what's the problem with Alvaro Silva? He's a good CB anf as far as I remember, he played good during his stint with the azkals.
