For me
1st half is so slow for the NT....thanks for EdSa for helping the back 4...everybody have a bad first touch....PHY is a marked man.....mulders is not as good even the last 2 match (Viet, Myanmar).....de jong ow my goodness what happen he is off this night thanks to M. Angeles he secure the center.....JYH is as always seldom help the defense thanks that there are no wingers that going on his way......A. Guirado should not seek glory instead why not he copy what Duric is doing.... 2nd half is good overall the defense is awaken...M. Angeles is a game changer...mulders improve his work rate (maybe because of M. Angeles)....Reichelt pound bennet and that is the right plan of Weiss, sayang yung cross pass naideretso lang sa goalie sayang din yung mga atake nya to no avail.....sayang yung one pass kay chieffy and 20 mins is not enough 30 mins would do..... 0-0 is good kahit may daga pati fans....goodluck azkals break a bone in singapore leg.....
a question though cagara have a yellow card....if my memory is correct he also had a yellow card back in the elims.....if so he can not play in the second leg? And two thumbs up for all his effort in this first leg...his feistiness really a shocker to the enemy......

As per the article...the result is not as impressive using the homegrown player....I agree we need people like licencum, espinelli and others to boost our national team and strongly agree for acquiring international coach to train mens division and if possible the 15U and 18U mens team.....the key word that I like is the development of the homegrown player through a strong local league....By developing youths we can be back as a an asian baseball powerhouse just like before. For the 26th asian baseball championship, congratulation for showing toughness against strong team except against china....were not the last and as always for the last 2 decades where on the 5th place... www.ibaf.org/en/news/2012/12/04/26th-bfa-baseball-championship-concluded-with-5th-/1615d3d7-8b95-404f-a6c5-3920248866ecAnd with champion in east asian cup, last year asean champion we are back on track on worlds ranking.... www.ibaf.org/en/world-ranking.aspx?type=1 PABA need to scout players to develop and train 15U, 18U and other homegrown player. Training must not be centralized to one area all knowledge must be share throughout the nation.

Funny after reading either in this blog and other blog, no matter how mulders, PYH and JYH falters the game still few question their performance. But even caligdong deliver us the win and sacapano save us the embarassment of the equilizer still they where questioned in their delivery and performance. Funny no matter how they say that caligdong didnt have the first touch but still he adjusted to make the finish, even messi and xavi sometimes dont had a good first touch but still they adjust to finish for a goal. This is not to disparage Chieffy's goal and his contribution to our win last night but IMHO, he is more effective as a sub. It was a great finish off a great pass from Angel. Unlike Margase and Araneta, he has proven that he still has a place in our NT. But, I also can't help but think that had the role been reversed, would Chieffy have passed or had the vision to see Angel's run? Or, would he do as he has done several times, make the attempt himself and not pass the ball to an open teammate? There were times during the match against Thailand and VN last night where instead of drawing defenders away from Cagara who was making a play he instead was standing in his way and almost bumped into him drawing defenders to the one handling the ball. It may sound that some are nitpicking on Chieffy, Ian and Margase but I think people are also sounding off their reasonable observations. Yes, there is always room for improvement but we can't just wallow in mediocrity while some players are playing catch up when we could have better choices. From what I read in other forums, PYH, JYH and the other guys also have their fair share of criticisms. I recall how much Sabio was criticized everywhere, but kudos to him for taking that on his stride and made himself better and worthy of his spot. I gotta admit though, the YH bros in particular may still get a pass in some respect, maybe because of their contributions to Philippine football and IMO that will not wane unless they completely bungled that up. Anyhoo, a win is a win. A goal is a goal. No matter how you slice and dice it, Chieffy's goal saved us. Congrats to the lads. It was so nerve racking last night. Kudos also to our defense for holding off Vietnam's attack and Sacapaño for his great saves. IA with you, I'm all for developing homegrown players and I echo the thoughts of those who were wishing that Deyto, Pasinabo, Pasilan, and other talented young players to get called and get their chance. P.S. I'm such a happy camper that no.2 got the captain's armband. Well deserved. Some of the comments have a point and have a good reason, but what Im referring is different...ika nga nanalo na pangungutya pa ginawa....as what Ive said, han smit even noticed it that mulders play under par especially on top with PYH but no one or few noticed it. Instead others was noticed, so I can call it nitpicking. Every players have a chance to improve and they are not stagnant always. For me I believe as a team no matter who's inside the field or a sub as long it jell and work and win. Though I agree with you it is time for margarse, araneta and gener to give up their slot and time to replace by a younger and have a promise to improve LOCAL players.

congratulation to the azkals, winning against vietnam....proving that it is no fluke of defeating them last two years ago.
hail to angel in pounding the defensive line of the vietnam creating space for others...hail to chieffy for goal....hail to our defensive 4 and Edsa of keeping the vietnam forwards at bay and the last minute save to avoid the equalizing goal. hail to de jong's feistiness in holding the mids......
The el classico of the visayas football region join hands in achieving this win hehehehe...
My conviction in believing in the homegrown player has been proven, and always will believe in homegrown players that they can re-ignite the passion of football in the philippines. Develop the local youth/player.

@kelvin
atleast we agree on development..... even without a proper baseball field this sport can be played...i was used to play in the makeshift diamond from the rice field (off crs during the end of season) but the passion of playing the games is there.... Same sentiments regarding the playing ground, in where I lived (kabankalan city), as far as I remember there are 3 baseball/softball field but the ironic is that the 3 fields are located outside the city proper....however private and public school still play the sport because all the football field during the tournament is converted to a diamond field (in short there are no homerun) even the if it has only a ball, a bat, a batter's cap, a catcher helmet/protector and 9 gloves. hehehe. That is why if we want to improve in any sport in the wolrd stage invest in the development in the provinces.

My comment on Mr. Ochosa assessment
why is it that all sports assessment in the philippines after the major tournament the YOUTH DEVELOPMENT is not included or negelcted. Provincial youth development is the key for the baseball to be successful again. The writer use japan baseball, but he forgots all the defeats and lesson they learn is pass down to the next generation of players and coaches. Unlike the philippines all knowledge is stocked piled on the baseball headquarters and the senior team in Manila. New techniques was never pass down in the provinces, no communication between manila and the provinces. this is the age of electronics even sending training guidelines to the schools around the philippines is even impossible. Funny even how manila holds there knowledge and techniques still players from the province manage to be the champion in baseball and softball tournaments, either in the palarong pambansa and the little league with the excemption of ILLAM. The DIRECTION and STRATEGY should be trained the coaches in the provinces improve there training technique, youll see 5 to 8 years the result will be seen. using fil-fors as a quick answer for fame is not always the solution or a long term answer for the baseball (or any sport) success but its the DEVELOPMENT (includes the batting, pitching, team defense, play, health selection, etc), they can help big time but the country need commitment. They should come earlier for training. FOr example why is it the Marcos's sport program Bagong Lipunan is so successful, a simple answer, development, development in the provinces in any sports and whoever win the national finals they will be sent to manila for further training. While there is always a national convention in any sport annually.

Overall assessment, we can catch up with NZ and Taiwan if PABA puts on effort on it. I believe that Filipinos are born naturally for baseball like soccer. Everybody can see that we have the talent. But unlike soccer, you really need a lot of development time in terms of developing skills which in turn can only be achieved by playing a lot of games. Hope to see our guys can go through the minor league ranks and maybe some can play in the Nippon, Taiwanese or Korean league. agree....to your final assessment cjeagle...thanks for the info phl baseball are called aguilas not a blu boys anymore.....atleast softball men (blu boys) and baseball men Aguilas) have a different nicknames now.

Philippines played a hard fought game, late run but still New Zealand came with a deserving victory. We still needs good hitter and young infielders and outfielders. I well have a bold statement if I say that PI will be a good team in SEA in the future. Clearly there are players who showed class namely: Nacapoy Pangilinan Pineda Ramirez Rosales Ogawa If we can just recruit more filam's in AAA and AA MLB affiliates surely we can compete with the giants of Asia. Im sorry but i have to disagree pangilinan is our 1B and has a lot of errors both the NZL and Taiwan games. Agree with pineda however I am 50-50 ramirez and rosales due to their infield defensive play errors and average batting ave. For Ogawa well for me his par Eguia and Espenilli have a better ERA record. Additional good performer Eguia and omandac (who have .333 batting ave for 3 games better than ramirez of .231) For me we just need a good coach (batting, pitching, catcher, plays) and develop our youth from the palarong pambansa ang products of Little leagues. Develop the coach and players.

Nice late run on bottom 8 however we were still outsmarted by NZL 10-6 coaching staff of NZL is better than especially o pitching assigment....our's the team bleeds before replacement. catcher nacapoy plays superb even the odds are low... bases flops.. pitcher need more tactical training and so as the batters... team chemistry is not present..... better luck next time....train for next year SEA games (if myanmar will host the game), and the next asian games (if blu boys join) more international games exposure.....

Blu boys was outclassed by taiwanese 16-0.
errors, no communication on the defensive play, more errors on the 1st base, and why they still keeping espenilli??
assessment:
Reinforcement is not always the saviour but it is a big plus if they were called up at least for a month for team chemistry build-up. We are far beyond in technical baseball long years of neglect and corruption of the baseball amatuer federation of the philippines. after a long years of mishandling the baseball federation Navasero families should surrender the seat and give it other. Clinical and technical training is lacking from the locals, ABAP should address this. At least recently an american coach is holding the team, hope that he would stay for a longer year. Development is still the key.
Well still hopeful against the new zealand. Go blu boys

Yes, you need height especially for pitchers because taller pitchers can get more velocity and better angles (an advantage given by the pitching mound). But it doesn't mean a short pitcher cannot be successful. Think of Pedro Martinez. I think Filipinos are natural players in baseball. We can pitch, bat, and field. Good luck against Taiwan! We can do this! Agree with you, height is not known to the filipinos, if a local had a height they probably end up to playing basketball hehehe........training is the key, technical and scientific training on biomechanics of pitching can suffice, there are few cuban and japanese pitcher below 6 feet excel in MLB. Just further development is what Philippine baseball needs....however if asaphil and philab can scout a taller pitcher and develop it then it is a big plus....... well wishing the blu boys reach the second round to elevate our ranking in baseball.
