Hopefully we can maintain the FIFA ranking so we can be included in 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualification draw this October(?) and to be played next year. Since Australia, Japan, South Korea & North Korea have their spot already, we are already included in the next top 20 AFC teams, (please correct me if i'm wrong). so we'll have 2 chances for 2015 AFC Asian Cup. The other chance as everybody know is the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup.

Asian Cup official qualification is basically for non-Challenge Cup competitors. It has nothing to do with the FIFA ranking. Although i don't theoretically know whether Challenge Cup participants can also join the official qualification since AFC never said "they can't", one thing for sure is that every countries not allowed in the Challenge Cup have priority rights to join it, and those are exactly 20 teams (not including AUS, JPN, KOR)
- Bahrain, China PR, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Syria, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.
So logically, unless any of above countries withdraw, there's no chance for us or any other Challenge Cup participants to join the official qualification.

If you qualify for both, you can only opt for one competition, not both. We have a better chance of making the 2015 Asia Cup by winning the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup than we would have if we joined the Asia cup qualifier competition. The AFC has stated that they will revisit and review how countries will qualify for the Asian Cup after 2015, so there might not be a Challenge Cup by then.

Maybe it's better for us if the rules are revised so that the Top 2 teams in the Challenge Cup would qualify for the Asia Cup, or alternatively, the 2nd & 3rd placers get to play a wildcard round with the highest teams that didn't qualify during the Asia Cup quallys. Give more paths to qualify for the main tournament.

reported by jonny on his site: Azkals-Kuwait match an authorized friendlyWorld football governing body FIFA clarified that the exhibition game between the Philippine Azkals and Kuwait Al Azraq last week is a FIFA full international "A-match." FIFA has earlier taken down the friendly in their list of recognized exhibition games, citing that it was not an authorized game. This led to the nullification of the Azkals’ 2-1 loss to Kuwait. But in a report posted on the Azkals’ official website, FIFA clarified that the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which is also under FIFA, has authorized the match. "We were just informed now that AFC authorized this match. So it will be back a A-match. We apologize for that," FIFA told the Azkals’ official website. This means that game’s result will affect the ratings of Kuwait and the Philippines in the FIFA world rankings for November. filipinofootball.blogspot.com/2012/10/azkals-kuwait-match-authorized-friendly.html
Despite its inclusion, PHI still move up in the next rankings update. Also it's good to see in FIFA site that we battle against strong team even we lost Time will come, we'll beat them

PH Azkals continue rise in rankingsBy Cedelf P. Tupas Philippine Daily Inquirer 3:17 am | Saturday, November 3rd, 2012 BUOYED by a run of stirring results, the Philippines is poised to achieve its highest ever position when the International Football Federation releases its rankings on Nov. 7. The Azkals are projected to move up four places to No. 143, a huge confidence boost as the side braces for the AFF Suzuki Cup from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1 in Bangkok, Thailand. The projected ranking that will see the Philippines move up to second spot in the Southeast Asian region for the first time in history was posted on the reliable website www.football-rankings.info. The Azkals played two matches in October, holding Asian powerhouse Bahrain to a scoreless draw in Manama and barely losing, 1-2, to Kuwait in Kuwait City as part of its Middle East camp in preparation for the Suzuki Cup. Only 2008 Suzuki Cup champion Vietnam—a team the Philippines beat, 2-0, two years ago—is ahead of the Azkals in the rankings among SEA countries at No. 139. Vietnam’s ranking for the month could change however depending on the result of its friendly match against Malaysia on Saturday. Azkals manager Dan Palami has actually set his sights on the No. 1 ranking in Southeast Asia before the end of the year, which can possibly happen with a victory in the Suzuki Cup. “Hopefully, the Suzuki Cup result will open the door for us to play in tougher tournaments,” said Palami. “I’m seeing progress in terms of how we play and in terms of fitness level as well as in the quality of players. But we’re still trying to catch up with the rest of Asia.” Thailand is expected to drop to an all-time low of 152, while Myanmar, which topped the AFF Suzuki Cup Qualifier that paved the way for its inclusion in Group A with the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, climbed to 156. sports.inquirer.net/69432/ph-azkals-continue-rise-in-rankings Azkals eye higher ranking in AFF, SEABy Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) Updated November 03, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (1) View comments MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Azkals seek to establish themselves as the “top dog” among ASEAN teams in terms of Fifa world rankings, something they hope to achieve with a strong showing in the AFF Suzuki Cup. “We hope to be No. 1 in Southeast Asia before the end of the year,” said Azkals team manager Dan Palami. In the October world rankings released by the Fifa, Phl is at 147th overall, its best standing ever, and third among ASEAN nations behind Thailand (139th) and Vietnam (140th). The Azkals are poised to rise further when the Fifa publishes its new rankings on Wednesday, largely due to their scoreless draw against fancied Bahrain in a friendly last Oct. 12. According to projections by the Football Rankings website, Phl is likely to move up to 143rd with projected ranking points of 184. This will propel the Azkals to No. 2 in the region, next only to Vietnam (projected at 139th). Thailand is projected to slip to 152nd. Palami had marvelled at how over the last two years the Azkals have kept themselves busy and scaled new heights in the Fifa world rankings, where the country once stood at low 195th (September 2006). “We’re at a catching-up phase with our neighbors in Southeast Asia. If you look at the calendar of the Azkals, we’re one of the busiest teams but this has allowed us to develop the team further,” he said. “In 2010, we were 33rd in Asia; now we’re 22nd and poised to be 21st. We were No. 9 or 10 in Southeast Asia, now we’re No. 3 and hopefully in the next release of the Fifa world rankings, we’ll be No. 2. Again, it will be our highest ranking,” he added. The Azkals aim to at least make the semifinals of the AFF Suzuki Cup set Nov. 24-30 in Bangkok, where they are bracketed with Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar. “Hopefully with the Suzuki Cup result we hope to achieve, we’ll open doors to stronger tournaments for the Azkals and result to better ranking for us,” he said. www.philstar.com/sportsarticle.aspx?articleid=866322&publicationsubcategoryid=69 ELO Ratings Before our games in Middle East, our ELO is 163 thanks to improvement brought by Peace Cup wins, After BHR game, it retains to 163 and after our loss to KUW, it moved up to 162. www.eloratings.net/Philippines.htm

Azkals rise anew in FIFA rankings
ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine national men's football team rose to new heights in the FIFA world rankings, climbing all the way to 143rd in the latest results released November 7. It is the Azkals' highest ever rating by FIFA. Just last October, the Azkals set a new high when they reached 147th place after their run to the championship in the Philippine Peace Cup. The Azkals rose in the FIFA rankings despite a win-less October, which saw them hold higher-ranked Bahrain in a goalless draw and then lose to Kuwait, 1-2, in a series of friendlies in the Middle East. The Philippines is now ranked 20th in Asia. The team is set to play Singapore in a FIFA international friendly on November 15 in Cebu City, their last fixture before playing in the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup. World and European champions Spain remain the top team, followed by Germany. Argentina, Portugal and Italy round out the top five.

as speculated last azkals vs. bahrain/kuwait. Rank gets higher if game against higher fifa ranked clubs. The higher the azkals go, higher in Fifa ranking the more chances all the players get scouted and invited to play at bigger clubs like in EPL, Laliga, Bundesliga etc. Giving them stable earning and higher skills training which is advantageous once they play for our flag.

FIFA and ELO's last ranking for PHI this 2012 Azkals finish 2012 at 147th in FIFA rankings, most improved nation in ELOROY MOORE December 19, 2012 8:54pm In the final FIFA rankings of 2012, the Philippines has fallen four places to 147, which is still the highest they've been at the end of a year, to top possibly the best year of Philippine football in history. The Azkals began with a third place finish in the Challenge Cup, which was followed by winning the Peace Cup against Guam, Macau, and Chinese Taipei, for the first trophy the Azkals won since 1913. 2012 was then capped off with a second successive semifinal stint in the AFF Suzuki Cup. Despite having beaten Vietnam and Myanmar on the way to the semifinals of the latter tourney, the Philippines still fell four ranks, a tumble which is due more to the time of year than recent results. Indeed only Myanmar and the Philippines fell in the rankings, while the other nations in South East Asia saw modest rises as can be seen in the table below. South East Asian Rankings 131 Vietnam Up seven places 136 Thailand Up sixteen places 147 Philippines Down four places 154 Singapore Up nine places 156 Indonesia Up nine places 158 Malaysia Up five places 162 Myanmar Down six places 171 Laos Up six places 182 Brunei Up five places 182 Timor Leste Up five places 184 Cambodia Up seven places The drop does mean that Thailand leapfrogs the Philippines into second place in the region, though somewhat surprisingly Vietnam holds onto their top spot in South East Asia despite picking up only one point in the Suzuki Cup group stage and playing no other games since the last release. Ahead of the Suzuki Cup Final, Singapore climbs back to 154th in the world, up nine places, after navigating their way through Group B with wins over Malaysia and Laos, while the draw and win over the Philippines in the two legs of the semifinals definitely improves their ratings. They are now rated the fourth best side in the region. A successful 2012For 2012, the Azkals have played 23 matches against international opposition, of which the Azkals have won eleven (48%), drawn six (26%), and lost six (26%). However the results which counted for this month’s rankings were those in the Suzuki Cup and their victory over Singapore on November 16 in Cebu. Despite beating the top regional side in Vietnam and the fourth best regional side in Myanmar at the time, now seventh in the latest ratings, the Philippines drop the places as they previously underwent qualification – which meant they racked up wins and therefore points in previous years. It’s also one of the anomalies of the FIFA Ranking system as the Philippines often falls in the rankings at the time of year when South East Asia generally rises, while the Philippines rise at the times of year when South East Asia generally falls. ELO RatingsMeanwhile in the ELO Ratings, the best alternative to the FIFA Rankings, the Philippines are rated 157th in the world. The difference of ten places between their FIFA and ELO ratings is due largely to the increased number of countries that are within the ELO Rating system, 232 as compared to FIFA’s 209. Showing the great progress of the country, the Philippines ended the year for the second successive time as the most improved nation in the world. A part of that is the sheer number of games the Philippines played but also the quality of their opponents. Going into the Suzuki Cup, the Philippines had played a higher rated set of opponents than the rest of their group and had managed to earn a draw against Bahrain and a closely-fought loss with Kuwait. To be the most improved country in the world for two years is perhaps unprecedented and shows remarkable progress on even last year’s results as the Azkals added 143 points to their ELO rating, which is now 1193. Only three other countries in the world have improved their ELO rating by more than 100 points in the last twelve months, and for the Philippines to do so two years in a row is a very impressive achievement. - AMD, GMA News www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/287078/sports/football/azkals-finish-2012-at-147th-in-fifa-rankings-most-improved-nation-in-elo
