Philippines, Australia, China soar up FIFA rankings The Philippines, Australia and China were the big movers in the latest FIFA rankings which were released on Thursday, moving up 19, 17 and 15 places respectively. [IMG] Thomas Dooley’s Azkals have moved up to 116th on the latest rankings with 300 points, following last month’s 3-2 victory over Korea DPR. In fact, their latest ranking is the highest the Philippines have ever attained, improving on the 130th position they held in 2013. The Azkals have improved steadily over the last decade, having been on the verge of dropping out of the top 200 in 2005. In their most recent match, Australia thumped Tajikistan 7-0 before dispatching Jordan 5-1. China, meanwhile, are up to 81st with 423 points, having beaten Qatar 2-0 and Maldives 4-0 at the end of last month. It wasn’t all good news for the Asian contingent on the latest rankings, with Korea DPR (18), Turkmenistan (15), Palestine (14), Tajikistan (14), Myanmar (12), Brunei Darussalam (11) and Malaysia (eight) all dropping down several places. Iran (42nd) remain the continent’s top-ranked team, closely followed by Australia (50th), Korea Republic (56th), Japan (57th) and Saudi Arabia (60th). At the top of the rankings, Argentina have overtaken Belgium as the world’s best team, with Chile and Colombia – up two and four places respective – with World Champions Germany dropping down one place to fifth. www.foxsportsasia.com/footba...ilippines-australia-china-soar-fifa-rankings/

05 May 2016 Argentina hold as Philippines record personal best With no A-international matches played in April, the May edition of the FIFA/Cola-Cola World Ranking provided a brief moment of security for teams eager to hold onto their top positions. All teams in the Top 50 maintained their positions this month, while the regional composition of said teams also remained unaffected since last month’s ranking. For May, UEFA has 30 teams in the Top 50, CONMEBOL 8, CAF 7, CONCACAF 3, AFC 2 and OFC. Philippines reach personal best The Philippines may have failed to qualify for the next round of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in the AFC region, but the Azkals get to celebrate a milestone in the May Ranking. Thomas Dooley’s men moved up one rank this month to reach their best ever position on the FIFA/Cola-Cola World Ranking (115). The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 2 June 2016. www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/news/y=2016/m=5/news=argentina-hold-as-philippines-record-personal-best-2789429.html?intcmp=fifacom_hp_module_news_top

19 July 2016 Palami upbeat despite Azkals drop in FIFA rankings by JAELLE NEVIN REYES Philippine Azkals manager Dan Palami remains optimistic despite the national football team’s drop in FIFA world rankings. The Azkals, No.115 in May, dropped to No.120 in June, then fell 15 notches to No.135 in the latest list released on July 14. According to Palami, Azklas’ drop in FIFA rankings is the result of lack of friendlies that his squad can participate in. He explained that it does not mean that the quality of the Azkals’ game has deteriorated. “That’s what happens if you don’t have friendly matches but it doesn’t mean that we have dropped in our performance,” he said. Palami added that they are planning to play more games in the upcoming international friendly windows and hinted that they will be taking on higher ranked squads. “We’ll try to rectify that by having a couple of friendlies just before Suzuki Cup. It would be a good preparation and good for our rankings as well,” Palami said. Only two matches, both against Kyrgyzstan later this year, have been confirmed as part of the team’s preparations for the Suzuki Cup to be held in the country. Palami said that head coach Thomas Dooley wants the Azkals to face tougher opponents in their next games to gauge the team’s progress. “The coach prefers that we play teams that are above us in rankings. We get better exposure if we play against those teams and at the same time, if we win, we get better points for the rankings,” Palami stressed. The Azkals are slated to play against Australian Perth Glory FC at the newly renovated Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur on July 26. However, Dooley will not be at the helm but assistant coach and Philippine Football Federation Technical Director Aris Caslib, “He [Dooley] won’t be here against Perth. Coach Caslib will be coaching the team in the game in Ilocos,” said Palami. Palami added that they would field new players in the match against Australia as the Azkals coaching staff is still awaiting response from different clubs if they would load their players to the national team. www.manilatimes.net/palami-upbeat-despite-azkals-drop-in-fifa-rankings/274711/

I hope we continue this momentum and remain at the top of the AFF table and rank above #15 in AFC when the draw for the Asian Cup Qualifier happens. Laban Azkals!

Kinda surprised with India. What did they do to rank up +31? I guess the win against Puerto Rico is a big factor.
