Fil-Swiss Marlon Stockinger earned his maiden first place finish in a Formula One event with a winning time of 21:37.673 in the second race of the Monaco GP3 Series, Saturday.
The Status Grand Prix racer began with pole position and ended on top, 0.687 seconds ahead of the second placer, Antonio da Costa of Carlin Motorsport.
He also managed to log the fastest lap at 1:28.747 on his eleventh go around the course.
However, racers were unable to complete all 18 laps, as American Conor Daly endured a horrendous crash that fortunately saw him escape unharmed. According to autosport.com's recap of the race, the incident forced race officials to "show the red flags" due to fencing having suffered damage in the accident.
The win gave Stockinger 17 points to make his total 39, good for third place in the Driver's Championship standings, behind Australian Mitch Evans (43) and Fin Aaro Vainio (54).
Stockinger had placed eighth in the first race, which was won by Vainio with a time of 27:06.685, on Friday.

The article above is misleading. This is a Formula Race but not Formula 1. I hope the Philippine born and raised Stockinger makes it to Formula 1 soon. I believe he is now 3rd overall in the Formula GP 3 standings after finishing 2nd in race 1 of the inaugural Spanish GP3 race in Barcelona on May 13 and now 1st in race 2 of the Monaco Grand Prix.
BTW, just a little bit of Filipino motor racing history:
Our best drivers have had tragic histories with Dodjie Laurel, 2 time Macau Grand Prix winner, dying after a crash in 1967 and promising 27 y/o driver Jovy Marcelo, who is the first Filipino to win an FIA sanctioned series, the Toyota Atlantic Series in 1991, also passing away during a practice run for the Indianapolis Grand Prix back in 1992.
