Sandro was again selected, for a third straight year, to play in the FC Barcelona Escola International Tournament held every Holy Week from Holy Monday to Maundy Thursday. On this, his third and last year in Escola, he will play with the FCB Blaugrana team. fcb-escola.fcbarcelona.es/detalle/noticia/ya-esta-aqui-el-cuarto-torneo-internacional-fcbescolaThis tournament is very important for Sandro against international competition from all over the world, as it is his best chance to impress as he hopes to join La Masia next year. Will he be able to join La Masia? Crossing my fingers here for him.

Sandro and the entire FCB Escola family had a treat the other day when they were allowed to pose for souvenir pictures alongside the three championship trophies that gave FCB their second treble!

Sandro might get affected by the strict enforcement of the FIFA rules(Article 19) affecting young players under the age of 18 registering with a club outside their home country. I don't think it is going to affect his current stay at Barca Escola(where he is only a student and not a pro) for his final season, but it is probably going to affect his chances of signing at La Masia with FC Barca and most importantly with other European clubs next year. www.nytimes.com/2015/09/01/sports/soccer/strict-enforcement-of-fifa-rules-sidelines-young-players-abroad.html?ref=sports&_r=2An article from Mundo Deportivo on all the foreign kids that will be forced to leave La Masia: www.mundodeportivo.com/20141231/fc-barcelona/take-y-su-familia-no-aguantan-mas_54422251138.htmlThe only way I can see him bypassing this ruling is if Sandro will apply for Spanish citizenship and a EU passport, which he is eligible for, since citizens from former Spanish colonies(such as the Philippines) are only required to have 2 years of residency in order to fullfill the requirements for citizenship. He can then join the Philippine teams as a dual citizen.

He can then join the Philippine teams as a dual citizen. Good article in the NY Times. I think that FIFA law of restricting non-citizens will be challenged very strongly in international court. Their directive is so broad based that even kids who move to Spain because mom or dad got a job there would be prohibited from playing. Anyway, regardless of this FIFA law, it would be wise for Sandro to apply for Spanish citizenship now that he has been a resident for three years. Opens up more opportunities as a EU citizen, whether football or not. I believe it's the mom who's been staying with him? Don't know what the law is whether he as a minor can apply, or whether the mom has to as well. Recall that Sandro's dad (yes, he reads and writes on this board) is an elected RP official. I don't know if he still is, but that's the only minor issue that might come up. I guess as long as he doesn't apply for Spanish citizenship, then there should be no issue.

Sandro's dad is no longer an elected official (at least not that I know of!)

Yup, Sandro or his dad has taken down their Barca Escola's facebook page and before that no updates were being given since early this year. It looks like Sandro is out of FC Barcelona's plans. It would be a shame for Sandro to give up on his European pro dreams because of this FIFA ruling.

Sayang talaga.. I hope Sandro will not give up on his dream. I was really hoping that Sandro will be the next Paulino Alcantara a homegrown filipino to join barcelona senior team. He really has the skills but it's pretty unfair that his dream would end this way. Imagine if they implemented that rule during Messi's time, maybe there will be no living legend today called Lionel Messi.
