This match just proved how important the Younghusband brothers are. No creativity and connection from the midfield to the forwards. No activity at all in the midfield. At times Schrock was at his lonesome with nobody to pass the ball to. Guirado was a ball-hog today. There were some instances that a teammate was running on the flanks and instead of passing it to him he either chose to take 2 defenders or cross the ball. His work-rate was terrific though. To be honest the only man i like in this match is the substitute, Marwin (or Marvin?) Angeles. We were lucky that the Malaysians didn't put their shots on target. We got lucky today. I see a complete squad versus Indonesia. We'll be a better squad. Have a good one ya'll! Agree 100%. We need more of this guy.

I'll take this draw even though we could have taken our chances with more precision. IA, we had too many long balls as oppose to the passing game we had during the AFC Challenge Cup.
I guess I'll take the positives like how Manny Ott was taking initiatives for attack and Marwin Angeles showing good ball control.

Just a note to our members here ... if you were in the chat room early today, Coach Graeme McKinnon (formerly of GLOBAL FC) dropped by on the chat room and gave us a few of his insights to the game ... wiking, stellarboy, myself chatted with him a bit and he dropped off about 15 minutes before the start of the game.

maybe it could be better if James will start in the right flank against Indonesia, and Schrock on the left so we can maximize his skills, Angel should start from the bench. just too much ball hogging.

RARE DRAW FOR AZKALS AS MALAYSIA OFF THE MARKJune 01, 2012 SHAH ALAM (1 June 2012) – Malaysia, the reigning AFF Suzuki Cup holders, should have walked away with a victory against the Philippines at the Shah Alam Stadium tonight. Instead, it was the visitors who earned a rare draw in a friendly game which is part of both teams’ preparations for the coming edition of the AFF Suzuki Cup later this year. Playing without several of their top players, the Philippines, losing semifinalists in the last AFF event, did remarkably well to contain the Malaysians. Some of the new faces in the team were impressive and will be good additions to the team. If they combine well, the Philippines will be able to field a strong side that will surprise all their Asean neighbours. Despite the draw, the Malaysians proved that they had ample firepower in their ranks with the likes of Safiq Rahim, Safee Sali, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha and several others. They will however have to tidy up their finishing which clearly was a letdown tonight. They have more than five months to work on their chinks before the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup kicks-off in November. The Azkals gave the Malaysians a nasty scare seconds after the kick-off. Stephen Schrock pounced on a weak back pass and could have hit in the opener, but goalkeeper Farizal managed to save the day by snatching the ball away from the midfielder’s feet. The visitors settled in quickly and took the fight forward but despite moving into scoring positions, they were unable to make their shots count. Malaysia managed to squeeze in a few a counter-attacks one of which in the 17th minute saw Safee shoot straight at the goalkeeper. It was probably his best chance of the first half. Just past the half hour mark, the pony-tailed Dennis Wolf came agonisingly close to breaking the duck when his attempt beat the Malaysian keeper but rolled past the upright. Strikers Wolf, Angel Guirado and the tattoed Schrock in the middle proved to be dangerous and were a constant bother to the Malaysian defence. In the dying minutes of the half, Shahurain Abu Samah was left screaming in despair as his shot came off the post. In the 49th minute, Norshahrul Idlan knew Safiq Rahim was behind him and unselfishly left it to Malaysian skipper. Safiq however could not control his shot and saw it sail just inches past the post. Safiq missed a freekick soon after but those close calls seem to fire up the Malaysians. Four minutes past the hour mark, Guirado’s cross from the right was pushed away by the keeper into the path of Schrock who miss-timed his volley in front of goal. Down the final stretch, the Malaysians were in control but missed a slew of chances. They could have walked away with a few goals but their players had extremely poor finishing which continued all the way to the end of the match. www.aseanfootball.org/?p=8498

I have a feeling we'll beat Indonesia thanks to PSSI. They're trying to bring back their ISL players though.

parang nasabi na lahat ng insights sa game ah. well, second half lang yung napanood ko pero sa tingin ko si Angel was a bit ball hog sa larong to kasi parati sa kanya napupunta yung pasa instead of building up the offense by accurate passes sa midfield. kaso, pag receive nya ng bola, takbo agad kahit dalawahan yung nagbabantay. and i would like Stephan to play left MF and Marwin sa gitna. sa tingin ko Chieffy is not really fit to start the game. i guess you mga MF's kelangan mag communicate ng maayos kasi puro long balls nalang nakikita ko. walang masyadong cohesion. pero i don't think na panget nilalaro ng mga defenders natin. panget kasi ng build up natin from MF's to Forwards. nasabi narin to. sa tingin ko, pag maganda yung build up natin sa offense pati yung cohesion. magiging powerhouse tayo sa SEA. ewan ko lang sa opinion ng iba. pero sa tingin ko eto lang yung kulang eh. at mahirap maglaro ng me language barrier. di kayo makagawa ng diskarte lalo na't di sila parati naglalaro ng sama2x. pero skill wise, individually. parehas lang tayo sa malaysia. sana hindi panget yung opinion ko. hahah

Malaysia 0-0 Phlippines : Tigers held to a goalless draw against a feisty AzkalsBy Nicolas Anil The Azkals almost took the lead two minutes into the game when Azmi Muslim gave away possession cheaply, however goalkeeper Farizal Marlias came into his rescue by making a last ditch tackle to deny striker Angel Guirado who was clean through on goal. Malaysia gradually found their footing and their first threat came from the left flank through S. Kunalan who squared for Safee Sali, only for the striker to direct his shot straight into Azkals goalkeeper Robert James. Philippines grew stronger into the match and Bundesliga striker Denis Wolf shot inches wide with Farizal seemingly beaten. But the Tigers ended the first half on a positive note and almost took the lead through Shahurain Abu Samah, only to be denied by the post after the winger brilliantly won possession from Paul Mulders. Rookie Amiridzwan came on for Fadli Shas in the second half as Malaysia looked to take the initiative against the Philippines. Safiq Rahim then thought he had given the national side the lead four minutes after the restart, his goal was however ruled out for offside. The skipper wasn’t too far away with a free-kick that just cleared the bar minutes later as Malaysia began to put pressure on their South East neighbours. Azmi Muslim was next to test Robert James with a stinging free-kick which the keeper did well to beat away under pressure. Philippines weathered the storm and went on the offensive soon after, and only some last ditch defending from Aidil Zafuan prevented Stephan Schrock from giving the Azkals the lead. Substitute S. Chanturu then had a glorious chance to win it for Malaysia in injury time, but he disappointingly skied his shot in front of goal after some great work from fellow substitute Shakir Ali down the left flank. So Malaysia ended their first friendly match with a draw, but it could have been a different story had the Tigers converted their chances. my.news.yahoo.com/malaysia-0-0-phlippines-tigers-held-goalless-draw-162600956--sow.html

Malaysia held by gutsy Philippines Philippines enhanced their reputation as one of Southeast Asia's up-and-coming teams by holding heavyweights Malaysia to a 0-0 draw in a friendly on Friday evening.By ESPNSTAR.com staff In an encounter at the Shah Alam Stadium that was devoid of many clear-cut chances, it was the Azkals who created the better openings despite missing the influential trio of Neil Etheridge, James Younghusband and Phil Younghusband. On the other hand, the Harimau strike duo of Safee Sali and Norshahrul Idlan Talaha were looking slightly jaded up front and failed to carve open too many opportunities for themselves. Even when they did, they failed to really test Roland Muller, who was deputising for the suspended Etheridge in goal. Within a minute, Philippines almost went ahead when Hoffenheim midfielder Stephen Schrock pounced on a horrible backpass by Azmi Muslim and looked set to round Farizal Marlias, although the Negri Sembilan custodian recovered in time to deal with the danger. With Angel Guirado and Juan Luis Guirado providing plenty of bite in the visitors' engine room, K. Rajagopal's men were hardly given any time to settle on the ball and in the 32nd minute, Philippines went close again when Denis Wolf nodded a header just wide. A minute later, the 29-year-old had another golden opportunity when he raced past the Malaysia backline, only to send a fierce left-footed shot past Farizal's post. The performance of Negeri Sembilan winger C. Kunalan was one of the few things the 15,212 fans had to cheer about as he put in a terrific shift and regularly tormented the opposition full-backs. While it was a far-from-impressive performance from Malaysia, especially ahead of their upcoming two-legged friendly tie against arch-rivals Singapore, Rajagopal will undoubtedly be pleased with some of his fringe players. In particular, forward Shahurain Abu Samah looked very lively and came closest to scoring for the hosts when he stole the ball from Schrock in the middle of the park and raced into the Philippines area before firing a shot that came smashing back off the woodwork. www.espnstar.com/football/asian-football/news/detail/item809927/

Angel has the nose for the ball. i think he is more agressive than Mulders. and honestly, i think chieffy lost his touch. he was out of form.

i just can't get over with our few chances. i thought we could have stole the game away from the dominant team like what Chelsea did against Bayern and Barca. anyway it was a good game against the reigning ASEAN champion
