SEA GAMES 2011: PHILIPPINES AIM FOR TEN POINTS October 28, 2011 SEA GAMES 2011: PHILIPPINES AIM FOR TEN POINTS MANILA (28 Oct 2011) – Other than taking it one game at a time, the chief coach of the Philippines, Michael Weiss is aiming to win just ten points from the group stage of the SEA Games next month. The Filis are placed in Group B of the biennial championship against 2009 runners-up Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Timor Leste and Brunei. “If we get 10 points (from three wins and a draw) most likely we will qualify for the next round,” said Weiss. “There is no aspect in playing against Vietnam. They are one of the five real opponents. We might lose 7-0 but still have a chance of advancing. If we beat all the other teams then we are through.” However, Weiss was quick to caution that while the plan is to win ten points, it is also imperative that they take it one game at a time. “We will take it one game at a time, one step at a time,” he added. “There should be no speculations for gold, silver, finals, blah, blah, blah – that’s stupid. It’s just dreaming and nothing about the real football world, just too much dreaming. “It will be one game at a time, one strategy for each game at a time.” Weiss admitted that their first game in the group against Vietnam will be tough, compounded further by the fact that they will have to play with four players under ‘jet lag condition.’ The four players concerned are Filipino-Spanish defender Carlos Alberto de Murga, Fil-Germans Roland Mueller and Manny Ott and Fil-Belgian Jeffrey Christaens. www.aseanfootball.org/?p=6451

Manuel Ott not going to SEA Games.. from manny's facebook page . "Hey guys Im very sad to tell u all that im not coming out to Sea Games... Yeah its true but i had to make a hard decision in which way my career as pro player will go.. im searching for another club here and so i need to stay and play for my team... It was a really really hard decision for me to make.... My heart is beating for the philippines! Im very very sad but i have to focus on my future career .. I hope u could understand this I am very sorry again but i wish the team all the best and good luck best wishes Manny" understandable decision. difficult for coach weiss to find a solution in such a short time but i think he knows allready what to do, as any good coach always as a solution for situations like this . players can be suspended, injured ... i hope he finds a good team, one that will also allow him to participate in future games . i must say that, if he went to the SEA-games it could help him in his career aswell . plenty of european and asian scouts will be there since this is an opportunity for them to see the best of the region play against each other . with a good performance he could make himself being noticed .

Can they still tap James Hall to take the position of Ott? Is he still here in the country? Good idea. He is in Bacolod plus he was part of the 35 man original roster submitted to SEA games committee.

Will ABS-CBN and TV5 share the same footage from Indonesia? That can mean copyright infringement on the side of the official broadcaster who provides the footage! But if during the acquisition of broadcast rights, the two networks had an equal share of rights from the official broadcaster in Indonesia, then that remains to be seen.
Having 2 networks broadcasting the same footage but having different commentators and delivery of coverage can induce competition in which network to trust during the coverage of the games. This will be a battle for ratings IMHO.

According to local sources the "Officially endorsed SEAG broadcast partner" is AKTV (TV5). Does this mean Studio 23 (ABS-CBN) is just playing second fiddle to coverage of the feeds they both get?

From what I gather from industry sources, AKTV has the broadcasting rights over the SEA football competitions. However, ABS has the rights to televise the games of the Azkals. So it is quite possible that both stations may televise the Azkal games. However, if that is the scenario, ABS is limited only to broadcast the Azkal games and may not be able to show any other SEA football game without the Azkals.
Interesting how this will pan out.

think of it like the coverage of Pacquaio's matches, Solar owns the rights yet GMA 7 airs it live.

Let us see on November 3 if the 2 networks 'simulcast' the live TV feed from Indonesia. That would be interesting. Darren H and Bob G on S23 and Ryan Fenix, Rick Olivares and gang on AKTV.

Ya 2 local stations jocking up who can broadcast a football game? Im on dreamland. Anyway, whoever is doing the commentary on AKTV during EPL and Bundesliga games are doin fine, they know their futbol. Its would be a nice venue for a pinoy newbie fan to learn how futbol runs coz they also speak in Tagalog.

Azkals making progress in Japan training camp By Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) Updated October 31, 2011 MANILA, Philippines - Coach Michael Weiss and team manager Dan Palami are both pleased with the progress of the Japan training camp of the Philippine Under-23 pool bound for the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia next week. Although still missing Europe-based players Carli de Murga, Roland Mueller, and Jeffrey Christiaens, the U-23 crew led by Jason de Jong, Matthew and Mark Hartmann, OJ Porteria and Jinggoy Valmayor have made the most out of their sessions in Gotemba, Japan. The camp and training have been fantastic so far. We have worked very hard on cohesion, offensive and defensive patterns in the way we want to play our game, Weiss said in an email to The STAR. Phl XI played two friendlies in Gotemba, scoring a 5-1 win over Hiryu FC and yielding a 0-2 setback to a U-18 JFA Academy side backstopped by some national mainstays. Apart from training, we went to study the training of Shimizu S-Pulse J1 Club and had the opportunity to talk to (top players) Naohiro Takahara, Shinji Ono and Freddy Ljungberg, a former Arsenal player, said Weiss. The Filipinos flew to Tokyo Saturday to watch the J-League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup finals, where the Kashima Antlers won over the Urawa Red Diamonds,1-0, observing how its played in the big leagues. The team was slated to play Tokyogakkan Urayasu HS football team yesterday as the final tuneup of their Japan sojourn. It is scheduled to arrive in Manila today and depart for Jakarta tomorrow, two days ahead of their Nov. 3 match with Vietnam. www.philstar.com/sportsarticle.aspx?articleid=743152&publicationsubcategoryid=69As we all know the final match was a draw 1-1.
