Great game... except for Ian and Burkey.. looks the two are a lost cause... why does Weiss keep on fielding this players.. Ian was worse though.. Very good build-up then he'll just either give away the ball or he's out of position.. Burkey is too weak, slow and has very poor positioning and decision making..

@ cjeagle, yup already have some data, but not 100% complete. I'll open a separate thread, its quite long.
@ spikymaaka, you should've been here earlier to offer more insight towards the game. Anyway, since I presume you are in the Philippines, make the Azkals your "2nd team" and join us in the forum. While I don't believe soccer will ever surpass(nor do I want it to) Basketball in the Philippines, I do wish we continue to develop and appreciate the game of soccer. We'll get there eventually! I laughed at you comment concerning the Bryan Adams concert! Again, welcome to the site and please stick around.

spikymaaka : Can't agree with you more on your observations. Its going to be a very different scenario against physically bigger and stronger opponents. Without better tactical plays, I expect us to have a hard time even against Palestine

spikymaakaso that means your country is basically sending it's Under-23 team? I wonder how our SEAG team would have fared ;D also, it explains lots of amateurish errors committed as a team and individually by the players. The players you mentioned, CB Chand and MF Shrestha are the only players that I remembered being on the pitch. I think they are the players left with a heart when they are down 3-0. If they are still in their teens, they would certainly kick the ass of all our locals in the current AzKals squad BTW: what was the name of the keeper in that match? I don't think it was named Limbo as our commentator called him.

Now that we've seen what Cagara can do at LB, do we put in Schrock at RB now so we can have a pair of menacing fullbacks?

Congratulations to the Azkals! A fine win and something to truly celebrate about after the outings at Singapore and Taiwan.
The good: I have never seen the Azkals play this well. Ever. It was obvious from the very beginning of the game that Mulders and Cagara are the real deal who lived up to all the hype. They did not disappoint. Mulder’s through ball to Phil for a goal was fantastic. Okay, the defense gave up too much space in that play, but it was still a fantastic pass. Great possession of the ball, knew when to attack and when to back off. Was the field general, the holding midfielder that adds another dimension to the attack to complement crosses from the wingers. Pinpoint passes to show off his Dutch football upbringing. And the same with Cagara. I can recall at least two dead-on crosses from his side to the box where he picked out an Azkal in the crowd. And his defense was just as good.
We scored goals! Yes, we missed some, but we also converted the good chances. Probability of goals go up if there are more shots, and there were many good shots.
The bad: Nepal was good only in the first fifteen minutes. They were stringing together passes and looked decent with ball control. After the first goal they completely disintegrated. Not a real test for the Azkals.
Weiss is still playing his total offense from the first minute to the last. Just like in the first Mongolia game. It works against teams like Mongolia (sometimes it doesn’t even work!) and Nepal, but not against stronger teams like Singapore and Malaysia.
The verdict: Definitely an improved Azkals side, and exciting offense to watch, but not the best style to play with against stronger teams.

Lads were great last night, a BIG congratulations. (Nearly lost my voice ) Dennis Cagara's overlaps created the opportunity to score. He's my man of the match. ***I just have to say this but watching Daniel Alves makes me think of Dennis Cagara. (Watching Mexico - Brazil Match).

Now that we've seen what Cagara can do at LB, do we put in Schrock at RB now so we can have a pair of menacing fullbacks? yup, that's what he offer on the left flank but against a stronger team, he would be easily suppressed like what happened against Singapore. that's why I can say he is really good, can measure the opponents capability. against strong teams, he is very conservative in his attacking forays, so he needs a flank playing partner(LM/LW) with a relatively good defensive sense whenever he plays LB, sort of like a left footed JYH, to cover him whenever he would be motoring upfield and utilize his full capability. that way, our left side counters can easily surprise a very good team due to a sudden overload on the left side of the field. usually, the defensive structure of the better team could easily be stretched towards breaking point. that's what Brazil's fullbacks(Alves, Bastos, Maicon, Marcelo, Luiz etc) has to offer and the source of usual problems for other teams. You can either suppress them (Chile style) or ignore them and fight fire with fire (Netherlands).

@ cjegale: thanks... and i don't feel offended by any comments at all.. it's frustrating for us as well with our inept and corrupt officials... @ Wiking : I would have loved to join this conversation earlier but i knew very little about azkals to make any comments. Anyway, i will definitely follow them closely now onwards... still have 2 more years to live here . it would be better if we could follow all the players from their club level.. so that we can make a good analysis. @ vimjonk: thanks for the compliments regarding our players. our coach is trying to get them into european leagues.. Jagjit Shrestha will train with VB Stuggart reserves for 1 year and i heard that Rohit Chand is scheduled for a trial at Glasgow... even that is a big step for us. and the keeper's name is Kiran Chemjong, he's new and showed good performance in the league so he got picked in front of other 2 veteran keepers.

There are no sceptics here. We all support the azkals and the national team. We just want the best for the team. If that means that we think certain decisions needed to be done or mistakes corrected for the benefit of the team, then we should voice it albeit in a respectful(okay vimjonk) and intelligent manner. It is called constructive criticism. That is part and parcel of being a passionate football fan in a democratic society. At the end of the day we will be there for them win or lose.

@wiking,
good idea, if you can find all this data, we can open up a new thread on national team stats that the PFF might even be able to use someday.
Too bad we will not take advantage of the FIFA match dates in November to schedule a few more friendlies. I guess they want to concentrate on the SEA games which happens about the same time and we only have one coach.
