Too early to get occupied with this topic but I think it will be worth discussing. For the start, as much as possible I don't like MIchael Weiss to be involved with this team. The PFF should hire a manager who can establish a tactical system and will have a good interpersonal skills with his players and all people involved on the formation of the team. We must not messed up with these youngsters as they will be our future. Of the 20 man squad under 23 team in 2011 SEA Games, 14 players are still eligible to play and I will be good idea if the new manager will retained all of them. And just make addition of relaible goalkeeper like Neil Etheridge who is also be under 23 years of age comes tournament proper and if Neil is not available try with the moon and invite Alphonse Areola instead and make him no.1 option. Why not. For the remaining players I like them to tap players who are based in Philippines or residing nearby countries (just 5-6 hours air travel like Japan and Australia). Why just nearby countries? they can be here in few hours when needed and these players won't have much fatigue as compared to Euro-based players due to long journey. . . In my mind Josh Boone who is based in Philippines will be fit in one of the category. From Japan we can call the Japanese kamikaze duo Yuji Takahashi and Junichi Tanaka. From Australia if we can convince new discovery Hagi Glidor to play that will be splendid.

Azkals’ U-23 Seeking Historic FinishBy Jonas Terrado January 23, 2013, 3:53pm Azkals team manager Dan Palami believes that the Philippine U-23 team that they are tying to form this early can accomplish what the previous squad failed to do in the last SEA Games in Palembang, Indonesia. Palami cited several mistakes the team did that led to its disastrous showing two years ago, foremost of them was lack of preparations. According to Palami, the Philippine Football Federation is now making early preparations for the squad with scheduled camps abroad in their bid to accomplish the Herculean task in the Myanmar SEA Games slated this December. The country has yet to win a football medal since the sports was included in the biennial meet. “I think we still have a good chance of securing a medal finish in the SEA Games and with the early preparation that we have right now, we should stand a big chance,” said Palami. Although the pool has yet to be finalized, Palami hinted that veteran Jason de Jong, twins Marwin and Marvin Angeles, Jeff Christieans, Matthew Uy and brothers Manny and Mike Ott are among the players being considered for the biennial meet. Neil Etheridge is still eligible to play for the SEAG team but the availability of the stocky 22-year old goalie will depend on whether his English Premier League club Fulham is willing to release their second-choice keeper for the biennial meet. www.mb.com.ph/articles/390841/azkals-u23-seeking-historic-finish#.UQCIRfKzpJF

Mark Hartmann really had a good game last night. scoring two goals and assisting two, he was part of all Loyola goals. i hope Weiss saw his performance
OT: we have some good players out there but most of them are attackers. we need defenders who can help Van Bossche at the back. im expecting to see this backline
Marasigan -- De Jong -- Van Bossche -- Christiaens

The good thing about this back four crew is they will probably have good communication in organizing defensive tactics in the pitch. All four of them speaks Dutch.

Does PHI U-23 already have a coach? By the way, Malaysia U-23 is now training for 2013 SEA Games to defend their crown. The U-23 is battling against the Senior teams of fellow ASEAN neighbors. Their first game is Myanmar NT vs MAS U-23 which ended in 0-0 draw. Here's next for them Laos Next for Malaysia U23VIETIANE (25 Feb 2013) – After drawing the Myanmar national team to a scoreless draw last week (pix), the Malaysian Under-23 team or Harimau Muda will take on Laos in two days. The game against the Laos national team will be played at the National Stadium. “The players played well against Myanmar but they should look to playing even better in this next match. They need to keep on making improvements and they really need to do so against Laos,” said Ong Kim Swee, the chief coach of the Malaysia U23. While the Malaysians are using the game as part of their long-term preparation for the SEA Games 2013 in Myanmar at the end of the year, Laos are gearing up for the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers next month. Laos are in Group C against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Mongolia with their first match slated for 2nd March 2013 in Vientiane. www.aseanfootball.org/v2/?p=12220
Despite several months away, they're already prepared. I hope PHI U-23 will also start to train. or as a part of training, why not let our U-23 team be a UFL club to train well and play against fellow UFL clubs. Well goodluck. I hope more reinforcements will come to earn us a medal in the upcoming SEA Games.

A U-23 guest team in the UFL would help us in the SEA Games, but it could really hurt the current UFL teams that are still fighting to become stable & competitive.

Looking at Cambodia's U23 squad playing against strong teams in this Challenge Cup, I hope our U23 squad would have similar experience as theirs - early scouting, training and opportunity to play against strong teams or just an opportunity to play many matches together.
Who will be their coach? Or will there be another coach? I am out of loop on this. Would like to see a new coach to show us and the team a new perspective on coaching philippine football aside from Weiss'

should have Azkals U -23 team playing at least Div 2 UFL, apart from the stand - outs. A regular U-23 that practice and plays together year round.

What's the update with the under 23 management? is Mr. Leo Rey Yanson is on board? Or Mr. Dan Palami is still calling the shots?
