It would be good if we can place their designated field positions beside their names.

Looks like a much improved, stronger side than last year' Malditas roster. . . Included are 19 players who honed their skills in US and 17 of them with US collegiate resume. . . Once they came in Philippines they must face sour realities such as poor training pitches; lack of logistics support; excruciating hot weather; the potential of being struck by diarrhea and food poisoned as these girls' stomachs have to adjust with Manila's drinking water for first few days ( my American cousins experiences the same whenever they came for holiday in Philippines); maybe recipient of inappropriate remarks as many of them are pretty, attractive mestizas; have to endure the smell of stinking odor of Manila (to be honest it's the reality you can smell it once you landed in NAIA result of poor drainge and sewerage system). etc. etc. etc. . . . I just hoping that these realities will not dampen their spirits and continue striving to win. . .

These girls will be fine. They've already been briefed on what to expect.
Besides, for many of them, this isn't the first time they've been to the Philippines.

Well, this is at par with how the first batch of foreign-based Azkals (Chris Greatwich, Chad Gould, etc) were being reminded back in 2004. Until now, you would hear such comments from our new Azkals recruits, particularly the weather. It'll take a while to get used to but I know our US-based Malditas recruits will fit in well.

This is not the first time foreign based players have come to Manila. Patrice Impelido was in the 2005 SEA Games team and is still there. Her sister Angeline played several times for the Malditas. This will be the 3rd tournament in Asia for Heather Cooke. The difference now is that this is the first time so many players have come from overseas at once. Ernie has lined up condo for them to stay so they don't have to stay with him or find their own place to stay. ULTRA was a little primitive for Heather. I suspect that these ladies will not be prima donnas. I am sure most of them will have uncles and cousins living in the Philippines and they will be mature and respectful enough not to complain about their conditions while they see how others who are less fortunate live. It will not surprise me if some of the players have trouble breathing. They are used to playing in leagues where frequent substitutions are allowed and where the pollution and humidity is much less. The legs might be in great shape but if you cannot breathe you cannot run. Much respect to all the players. Nobody is coming for glory or money. Others may not think of them as Filipinos but they grew up knowing that they had that heritage and history. I am sure families in USA, Canada, and the Philippines are all very proud and it has nothing to do with whether they are in a commercial, newspaper, or billboard.

The last information I found about Iran was a 2-0 win over Turkey in March. They have a Portuguese coach and have played most of their games against teams like Palestine and Jordan. They did tie Ukraine's B team. If the Malditas tie Thailand goal difference will be a factor so let's hope that they are ready to score goals in their first game.

Iran won 2-0 and 2-1 against Jordan at home in February , Jordan drew 1-1 and lost 1-0 to Vietnam away , so Iran should be at level with Vietnam. No friendlies for women`s team before the qualifiers ?

I know that they scrimmage with men's teams but no money in the budget for friendlies.

They announced that they will have a scrimmage at the Alabang Country Club against DLSU men's team this Saturday, 4-6pm.
They also practice with Stallion Sta. Lucia, so they're just fine.

We'll see. Heather hasn't played much football in quite sometime. I'm hoping she is physically fit to play.

Where are Jesse Shugg and Chalise Baysa? Are they in the country already? And as for Heather, why the delay in getting into the camp if she's not been playing football lately? Work perhaps?
