Honestly, I can't get a good sleep with the result. With our set of players this suzuki cup i think a semis appearance is acceptable. But thats football anything could happen. Thailand is Thailand the best In ASEAN region. In my opinion, this suzuki cup is a big test for PFF(organization wise). Now the 2010 hype is almost gone, interest in football decreased. Plus the ABSCBN as a promotional outfit is medyo tinatamad na. Have you seen lately puro delayed telecast na sila ng friendlies. I wonder kung hanggang kelan ang contract nila sa pff. Im hoping that we would not see another football dark ages in our country. Lets pray this new PFL would be a hit and can bring back interest of football to the public and i hope we could qualify to the asian cup.

SOME POSITIVE THINGS:
1. Players like Daniels, Mike Ott, Casambre, Minegishi, and maybe Christiaens in his new position prove their mettle in the competition. 2. Despite its location, PSS has good acoustics. If only fans could fill 75% of its capacity, it'd be like a little Bukit Jalil, or a louder Rajamangala. 3. I think ASEAN clubs will be noticing the Azkals now. Hopefully, some of them will consider them signing. Some Thai fans like Aguinaldo. 4. Foreign media now know the team is a hard team to beat. Philippines entered the competition as one of three media faves to advance in the finals. 5. What if Rota, Reichelt, Patino, and Sato played? The team had injury and availability problems. We cannot ignore the fact that a makeshift backline and depleted attacking options still held Singapore and Indonesia in draws and narrowly lost to the Thais.
But yeah, I really hope the PFF should do a better job in promoting a competition this big.

We are all disappointed on how PFF had promoted and marketed the event in Manila. The stadium attendance is an embarrassment for the Philippines, as host for a major Southeast Asian event. I would like to give this item for Nonong Araneta's desk.

Grp B teams Vietnam and Myanmar qualify for the semis and will face Thailand and Indonesia. Congratulations to all the semifinalists.

The Philippines did not qualify for the semis of the Suzuki Cup(after circumstances forced them to lose up to 8 players most of whom were starters from their WC qualifying roster), but the bright lining is that they introduced a lot of young players to the national team. They only had 2 players in the team who are in their 30's(Schrock and James Younghusband), both of whom just turned 30. The rest are in their 20's or younger and after trying out several players to partner 21 y/o Aguinaldo at centerback, they seem to have found an answer in 17 y/o centerback Casambre, who had a good performance against powerhouse Thailand. They remained competitive throughout the tournament and showed that that they can hold their own against the more experienced and older teams in Grp A. I think they will be okay when Asian Cup qualifying starts next year(when many of their missing players will hopefully become available) and their long term prospects also look promising.

In the field of sports, I have problems accepting the PC approach of creating lemonaids out of obvious lemons. National teams, representing their country should have killer instincts, losing not an option mentality. "Kick butts and have fun" attitude. Players like Luis Suarez, willing to use his hands to stop a goal, bite opponents, play injured, and do whatever it takes to win. In this business, the alpha dog wins.

I tend to be more positive in this forum, as many of our posters are from the Philippines and I want to encourage our fans especially since many of them are new to the sport. That is why I pointed out the bright lining in this disaster. Believe me my assessment of how we hosted this tournament on and off the field, is a lot harsher elsewhere.

Flashback to Vietnam 2010 when PYH played and scored despite the food poisoning that affected several players. If you can search the vid of Phil scoring vs Vietnam, he was in pain and was clutching his stomach after the goal. Chris Greatwich twisting his neck to head the first goal against Vietnam. Etheridge getting hit on the face numerous times and not even once did he purposely stop the play. In the 2012 edition, Angel Guirado gave his best, we know that, among everyone. I agree with you here (not because my fave striker is Suarez. He he he).

The Azkals had 3 friendlies in Manila. Based on what I know, the inviting party will pay for all the local costs covered. This includes hotel, food and local transport for a delegation of up to 50 persons. If the other team is well known i.e. Spain, Germany, France, there is an appearance fee which is around $2M for these countries just to show up at your site. The airplane cost is usually deducted from the appearance fee, since it is normally chartered air. I am assuming that the friendlies with the 3 countries were negotiated ahead of time. To make the long story short, you really need to fill up the stadium (plus TV rights fees) to break even. This is why Mexico is holding most of its friendlies in the USA even with other countries, i.e. they could break even, stadiums are large and usually filled up. Considering the pathetic attendance, I am assuming that PFF had to go to the bank and withdraw a good sum of money to make the friendlies happen. Plus with the practices before game day, include the day-2-day allowances for the players attending it. Players not normally playing maybe at the bottom of the queue and may get the short end of the stick.

My final post in this category. See how mismanaged the promotion of Suzuki Cup 2016 in the Philippines, simply embarrassing. Our only rational is that the Philippines is a basketball country...pathetic. You have to login to see. Six soccer games between the 4 best national teams in Southeast Asia in a 20,000 capacity stadium and we, the Philippines could only give AFC a total attendance of 11,571.
