I thought it was poor grammar, so I spelled it the way it should be. haha. Maybe I will change it later, if enough people prefer it the way they spelled it, poor grammar and all.

It should be the way you put it, but it's what they wanted, for better or worse.

Philippines is an adjective. So I guess it's fine. Not a grammar expert but I think Philippines Football League is ok.

Examples of proper English grammar:
England(noun) English (adjective) America (noun) American (adjective) Philippines (noun) Philippine (adjective)
That is why they call the Premiership formally outside the UK as the English Premier League (EPL) and not the England Premier League

Regarding the Philippine/Philippines thing, adjectives are in the open class of words (meaning, they are dynamic and so you're free to add a new term or use an alternative in place of the commonly used word. Examples are Lao vs Laotian, Scots vs Scottish, and Native American vs American Indian). Linguistics dropout here so I'm sorry if I had to use annoying terminologies.
Philippines/Philippine are both correct in terms of usage (they describe the succeeding words) but, yeah, PHILIPPINES FOOTBALL LEAGUE sounds wrong to the ears due to our 'prescriptivist' English grammar education. Almost all of the national sports team listed and used in Wikipedia and British online news outlets has the country names instead of the demonym (ex. England national football team, Republic of Ireland national football team). And if we look at the names of our neighbors' domestic competitions, there's MALAYSIA Super League (Liga Super), INDONESIA Super League (Liga 1) and there's the THAI Premier League. It's a pity we can't name ours like S. League. 😀

Philippines football league sounds good, but "the philippines football league" would sound better, its just an idea. But its would seems more logical to say the least, our countrys name is in fact called "the philippines".

A lot of "brain cells" are being used to justify the semantics, i.e. Philippines football league, or just Philippine. But to be geographically correct since there are 7,100 islands in the archipelago, then "the Philippines football league" makes sense. I agree with this one and this is my "brain cells" contribution to this discussion.

True. Nouns(if used often enough) can become adjectives. But as has been mentioned, formally the media(both local and foreign), the government, most textbooks, and even the FA uses Philippines as a noun and "Philippine" as an adjective. e.g. PFF(Philippine Football Federation) and not Philippines Football Federation. Or Philippine U23, U20, U17 national football team and not Philippines national football team. Many sports teams in the past were given the moniker RP(Republic of the Philippines/Republika ng Pilipinas) teams, in keeping with the country's official designation, but when referring to the teams itself, they usually use the preferred adjective variation, Philippine national (____) team.
It just sounds wrong to hear our country being referred to as the Philippines Islands, or the Philippines Republic, or the Philippines nation, especially without an apostrophe. It is like saying it is okay to have the Philippine flag with the red colors up and blue colors down in times of peace, or change the cadence of the Philippine national anthem. It is doable but you are basically violating the rules handed out before and a lot of traditional folks would rebel at the violation of those rules and even in diplomatic circles they would happily point out the error to their foreign colleagues.
But as has been pointed out, language usage is flexible and adaptive. Perhaps the PFF, can start a trend and with frequent use can make the term acceptable. After all words are added all the time in any language and many nouns through frequent usage can become adjectives.

In order to gauge the preference of our forum members, I am adding this poll to find out if they would prefer using the term Philippine Football League or Philippines Football League when referring to our new professional league the PFL? At the end of this poll(end of May), I will keep or change the spelling on the titles of this forum in accordance with the wishes of the majority.
Of course it is possible that once the PFF adds multiple divisions in the future to our professional league setup that they will change the term altogether to reflect this. But for now this poll is in reference to the current season and setup.
BTW, the term "Azkals" that is used to refer to our men's national team today was originally set in a similar poll in a former forum. The national team formally adopted the term and the media accepted it, so polls can be a powerful instrument of change. To set the record straight, I did not participate in that poll or agree with its conclusions. Personally I would prefer a different term altogether, but once set and applied in common usage, it is hard to change monickers, so I have accepted it like everyone else.

But we also have Thai League instead of Thailand League. Then we have Taiwan Football Premier League instead of Taiwanese Football Premier League. But we have Chinese Super League instead of China Super League. So there are instances where the noun is used, and there are also instances where the adjective is used. Maybe they should have a contest in Facebook to determine the name of the league. Facebook = exposure. Oh well nandiyan na yan, let's just support and hope for the best. Just an off-topic, I just hate the name of the volleyball league "Philippine Superliga", how would I know what sport is the league for by just looking at the name?
