I vote to use the funds instead to build a world class stadium that is built to FIFA standards and can hold at least 40000. Why renovate a facility that is clearly sub par anyway?
In the meantime Panaad seems to be the only choice.

If thats the case, panaad would be the safe and wise choice.

www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/sports/2011/04/01/dpwh-philsports-rizal-memorial-not-safe-148207DPWH: Philsports, Rizal Memorial not safe MANILA—The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) found some venues and dormitories at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City and Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMC) in Manila unsafe for spectators and athletes. Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richie Garcia said that the DPWH recommended immediate repairs of the venues and dormitories, since spectators and athletes will be at risk if a strong earthquake hits Manila. He said they need a substantial amount of money to renovate the government-owned properties and will request Malacañang so necessary actions can be done. “The DPWH found cracks and stains not only in the walls, but also in the floorings. These pose dangers to our athletes and to the people who are using these facilities, especially if an earthquake occurs,” said Garcia. “Right now, our budget is only P168 million and we don’t have any amount for infrastructure. So instead of P168 million, we may ask for something like P500 million for next year.” Garcia said that all the necessary infrastructure projects by the PSC will now be included in their annual allocations from the General Approriations Act. “We have to put all of these now in our GA allocations. We can defend these in Congress. We will fight it out in the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). We have to defend our budget in the DBM because we need to maintain all venues in good condition and pay the salaries of all our employees, services and our utilities also,” he added. _________________________________________________ Looks like Rizal Memorial just received a vote of no confidence by the DPWH ;Dthe article never said that the rizal football stadium in particular has some cracks & unsafe for sudden earthquakes ;D That's RIGHT, there are so many venues at RMS and this report was not specific which one is not safe...Is it the Basketball court, Baseball Field, Gym, Tennis Court, Badminton Court, Olympic Size Swimming Pool and finally the Football Stadium...All it says was the dormitories, which is the place were some athletes reside, but I don't think team Azkals will be staying overnight at the stadium... P.S. Something is 'FISHY' about this article, especially coming from a Cebu based newspaper and the only one reporting it...AHEMMM!

Dalawa kasi ang Stadium sa Bacolod na ang football pitch are with international standards ..... the now famous Panaad (which in our dialect means "Promise") at yung lumang stadium namin na Paglaum (meaning "Hope") which is a 2 grandstand complex before so actually almost same capacity and "Age" ng Rizal Memorial kaso pina demolish na ang 1st stand (made of wood pa kasi hahhaha) .... Bakit naging international standards yung dalawang field dun? Sabi kasi ng contractor na friend ko nung pina repair provincial government yung dalawang pitch may multiple drainage system pala yan ang football pitch para kahit umulan ng todo puedeng maglaro ..... tapos lalagyan ng foam matting para maging flat ang field bago nilagyan ng lupa at tinaniman ng damo also to maintain the water level for good grass condition.

P.S. Something is 'FISHY' about this article, especially coming from a Cebu based newspaper and the only one reporting it...AHEMMM! This one's from the Manila Times and the facilities requiring repair are listed at the end of the article: DPWH declares some sports venues unsafe
THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) declared some venues and dormitories at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City and the Rizal Memorial Sports Coliseum (RMSC) in Manila as unsafe for spectators and athletes. Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richie Garcia said that the the Public Works department recommended immediate repairs of the said venues and dormitories, which posed risks to spectators and athletes if a high-magnitude earthquake similar to what hit Fukushima, Japan two weeks ago would occur. Garcia said that they need substantial amount of money to renovate the facilities adding that the sports commission would make immediate reports to Malacañang on the matter. “The DPWH found cracks and stain not only in the walls but also in the floorings. Theses posed dangers to our athletes and to the people who are using these facilities especially if an earthquake occurs,” said Garcia, adding, “Right now our budget is only P168 million and we don’t have any amount for infrastructure. So instead of P168 million, we may ask something like P500 million for next year.” Garcia said that all the necessary infrastructure projects by the commission would now be included in their annual budget allocations as mandated by the General Appropriations Act. Among the facilities recommended by the Publice works department for immediate renovations are dormitories, the track oval in Philsports and RMSC, the PSC building, bleachers of the Rizal track oval, tower and light at Philsports and the RMSC.www.manilatimes.net/sports/dpwh-declares-some-sports-venues-unsafe/Kuryente?

It seems to me that this is not a big issue. The PFF has already inspected the site and would probably have asked for renovations in any case. Another article also clearly states Dan Palami (or another PFF person) has asked for renovations for the bleachers because the metal supports for the seats have deteriorated. About the "something fishy in the article"... If they're really trying to have the match held outside NCR, I would suggest they stop saying negative things about the stadium because it will not do them any good. The RM Stadium was chosen not because of the stadium itself but for logistic reasons.

I also like the idea of having our own "Wembley Stadium" (it's owned by the English FA). But the thing is that we don't have many decent stadia in the country. Why not renovate the Rizal Memorial Stadium AND build another stadium? I know it's expensive but DLSU is under contract with PhilSports to renovate the stadium so the government won't have to spend a centavo if I'm not mistaken. And congress recently passed a something (sorry, don't know much about politics) that plans for a stadium. So... If it were up to me, when it comes to stadia, the more the merrier. I just hope that DLSU won't paint the stadium green or something.
