www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/06/18/11/azkals-crush-bonner-selection-friendlyAzkals crush Bonner selection in friendly abs-cbnNEWS.com Posted at 06/18/2011 6:52 PM | Updated as of 06/18/2011 9:59 PM MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals showcased better chemistry as they beat the Under-19 Bonner Selection during their friendly in Germany on Friday. The scores were 4-1 in favor of the Azkals, who are currently preparing for their FIFA World Cup qualifier against Sri Lanka. Filipino-British Phil Younghusband struck the first goal during the first half. This was followed by 2 successive goals from co-team captain Chieffy Caligdong and Filipino-German Stephan Schrock. In the second half, it was Ian Araneta's turn to score. Caligdong said the Bonner Selection put up a good fight by bringing in aggressive play. "Mas aggressive sila sa game namin sa Duren FC," he said. For his part, co-team captain Aly Borromeo credited the recent player additions for their win. "Yung dalawang German additions, talagang 'yun ang plus sa team as saka 'yung partnership ng mga strikers namin," he said. The Azkals earlier beat Aachen-Duren, 4-1, during their friendly last Wednesday. They are scheduled for 2 more practice games against Ingolstadt I and Darmstadt 98 next week. ____________________ Aly Borromeo tallks about the 2 new German players making the difference in the team. The first would be obvioiusly Stephan Schrock. The second is a new significant development. That would be Oliver Potshke who I believe plays in central defence. That is a position where we have very few attractive options. As you all know, the alternate in that position that Coach Weiss has used in the past is the mistake prone Jason Sabio. If we can find a reliable center back in Potschke, we won't be as vulnerable to losing Borromeo or Gier in a game or even have a better option to those two. If that is the case, then he would be the logical candidate to replace Dennis Cagara on the 23 man roster to the Sri Lanka WC qualifying games, if Dennis isn't available which is looking more and more likely at the moment, as well as in future games. This will iimprove our depth even further.

^ Know his size ? I thought he was a side attacker. The good thing is our Azkals is winning Tune-up games internationally... remember the games against the Japanese Univ. were in one of the games the azkals lost by 8 Goals... are this Japanese Univ. players better than the 7tier team and a 4th div. u-19 team from Germany or are the azkals are just way better when they where in Japan? No intention to keep this issue alive. I'm just answering the "question". Both. Most of Jap college football league Div.1 players are pre-pro players and their technical standard is very high. Kanto Gakuin Univ. FC belongs to Div.1, and the school is affiliated with Yokohama F.Marinos, a powerhouse club in J-1 league. It means that many of the players we faced are gonna be top-level pro players in Japan after graduation. Of course German standard of football is higher than Japan's, but still it's readily assumable that Kanto U guys are way better than a local amateur squad or a 4th division U-19 team in Germany. And of course the two are completely different Azkals. Mr. Weiss reportedly tested mainly home grown players in Japan, most of whom are not even in current 23-men roster in Germany. Talking about this difference, honestly i can't bet my money on Azkals vs Timor-Leste match if we have to field fully home grown players.

hays ang labo. kahit sa anong bagay hindi pwede na dire-direcho ka lang susugod at kalabanin agad ang mga malalakas. you first have to gauge yourself first on what you can do against not so strong teams. pag natalo ka sa mga yan, then there's no use facing the strong teams for now. let me give an example of what happens when you rush players or teams, look what happened to boxer rey boom2x bautista when they rushed him to fight a good boxer? tulog in 1 round! now balik muna siya to fighting not so good boxers. had they done it the other way around, boom2x wouldn't have suffered that embarassment. atsaka in this team which has an impromptu line-up, they won't learn cohesion especially in attacking if they play against stronger teams kasi they are probably be going to be the ones being attacked. ;Dwith all due respect usbdata, how can you be so sure about boom-boom that had they've done it the other way around , boom-boom would'nt suffer the same embarassment.....tell me huh!! ;D kasi if they did it the other way around i'm sure di na sa round 1 mangyayari ang KO. ;D

Just a thought, but now that we are achieving improvements in offense, how is our defense doing? I just realized that we just conceded 2 goals to a bunch of teenagers. Is this cause for concern?

Is this cause for concern? it raise concern considering that those 2 teams are just 7th or lower tier level. hopefully Gier will play for the starting 11 defense and that schrock should go back to his original position (not losing his aggressive play) if Mulders will be playing for the starting 11 offense. _________________________________ on a separate note PFSA said... It seems Philippines wil not play< vs Ingolstadt I .. just ingolstadt II ( div 5 ).. so its not a much harder game .. maybe 1,5 levels up as before! ( w/ouT ray Jonsson who need to play in Iceland FA Cup ) !!!!! June 18, 2011 5:30 PM NEXT GAME WILL BE JUNE 22

Three days and change to go before the next test match. If I assumed correctly that the next matches will be a defensive/counter-attacking test, we might see a tweaked formation then. And I expect Azkals be using the remaining days to discuss and drill that tweaked defensive formation. ------------- By the way, I'll just leave this here: www.pinoyfootball.com/Columns/2011Jun19Sun023159

As for Lucena he will be playing because he showed up in the games eventhough not playing in them.

Uhm, the Internet is my territory. Hehehe! What happens on the Internet is generally what I write about both in PinoyFootball and in my personal blog. (The other guys, like Kaligo, write about other subjects.) Besides, the subject matter of that post is not limited to what has been said in this forum. It also has to do with interactions I've had in other "places"— which might include a number of those other forums. I'm not against debate. People have every right to post their opinion wherever they can. As I have every right to write (pardon the pun) about those opinions in places that are available to me.
