No, we don't have to play those teams. But we could play some better sides than FC PLUMBERS & TAXI DRIVERS or 18 YEAR OLD BOY UNITED under a semipro club, if we call the azkals in germany now the national "dream" team. And no, it's not about Sri Lanka. We're obviously targeting at Kuwait, and we have almost no experience of playing such high level opponent. Especially our center backs. If we get past Sri Lanka, we're gonna have only 2 more matches before facing Kuwait, reportedly both 2 games against Bahrain's U-22 team. Though Bahrain national team's recent form is great, i doubt their U-22 squad is gonna be strong enough too to be a simulated enemy of Kuwait. So i thought we needed some more fierce experience in Germany where strong football teams are everywhere. That's all. OK Sir, forget about my complaints. I just hope the next two clubs, especially Ingolstadt, will bring their best possible squad on the pitch and play enthusiastically to give the Azkals much trouble. Progress is incremental; you just can't go out playing top-flight clubs/national teams when you're still consolidating your players' abilities. In the future, depending on how these Qualifying games turn out, we'll be expecting the Azkals to play stronger sides in preparation for games that are further into the future. Think about it. If the Azkals first played Ingolstadt, which most of us consider to be the "real test", at a time when guys like Angel Guirado, Stephan Schröck, and Paul Mulders are just getting to know each other on and off the pitch, what do you think will happen? It pays to not take things too far at that time to give the guys more room to become familiar with each other, in the context of the team's game plan. So you're not going to get a test opponent who's going to eat you up right in the offing. I suspect the first two test matches (with weaker teams) were for getting the Azkals familiar with each other's offensive movements; the next two (with stronger teams) will be for testing their defence and counter-attacking— which relies on their ability to attack. If (when) we get past Sri Lanka (and hopefully, Kuwait), expect another training camp. And at that time, expect tougher test matches. But not now.

I don't want to keep dragging this on, but if we get past Sri Lanka, we're gonna have only 19 days to prepare for Kuwait. Since players need a break in between, we can't expect another camp besides the Bahrain camp where we are scheduled to have 2 test matches against Bahrain's U-22 team. That's all we can do before Kuwait game. If we had enough time between Round1 and Round2, i would have not worried either about Kuwait at this stage.

^ Yeah, only 19 days to prepare for Kuwait. So? How does playing with stronger opponents at this stage (the Germany camp) help?

hays ang labo. kahit sa anong bagay hindi pwede na dire-direcho ka lang susugod at kalabanin agad ang mga malalakas. you first have to gauge yourself first on what you can do against not so strong teams. pag natalo ka sa mga yan, then there's no use facing the strong teams for now. let me give an example of what happens when you rush players or teams, look what happened to boxer rey boom2x bautista when they rushed him to fight a good boxer? tulog in 1 round! now balik muna siya to fighting not so good boxers. had they done it the other way around, boom2x wouldn't have suffered that embarassment.
atsaka in this team which has an impromptu line-up, they won't learn cohesion especially in attacking if they play against stronger teams kasi they are probably be going to be the ones being attacked.

You hit the nail on the head Samhain, progression is the key behind this. There is a science to all this and I would like to give the coaching staff the benefit of the doubt that they know what they are doing. I think the coach mentioned that this camp was going to focus on specific aspects of their game (compactness, defense, transitions, etc), chemistry and teamwork. If they play against really strong teams, there is no way they will get to work on that as correctly pointed out by some of the posters here. Let's take an example, Argentina (ranked 5 by FIFA) is playing Albania (ranked 50) on 20 June in preparation for the Copa America which starts on 01 July. Why on earth would the AFF choose for Messi et al to play against Albania in preparation for a major tournament on their home ground which they haven't won for some time now and their dreaded rivals Brazil are the defending champs two consecutive Copas running(with the Argentines the losing finalists on both occasions? I think the answer to that is the same with the some of the points Samhain and others have raised here on this issue.

The good thing is our Azkals is winning Tune-up games internationally... remember the games against the Japanese Univ. were in one of the games the azkals lost by 8 Goals... are this Japanese Univ. players better than the 7tier team and a 4th div. u-19 team from Germany or are the azkals are just way better when they where in Japan?

good point fadzki. here's a perspective, even if the opposition was a bit "lightweight" at least the azkals won those tune-up games scoring 4 goals. it would be more worrying if they drew those matches or lost them.
at least this shows that against opponents they are expected to be superior to, they show that they can dominate and control the game.
