He got something right though... He correctly predicted that we'll have 2 goals over Singapore but not the 5 goals against us.. Lol! ;D That Vimjonk guy was a fiesty one I remembered. Good game for us tonight guys. Our midfield especially Schrock was really the factor. If only we can have his services during Suzuki Cup then we'll have better chances.

To be fair though, vimjonk, during the time he posted here, provided some smart, insightful analysis. He had a tendency to be a bit incorrigible, however, when it came to expressing his thoughts and dealing with opinions that were contrary to his.

www.goal.com/en-sg/match/92223/singapore-vs-philippines/reportAzkals Coach Michael Weiss made only one change to the side that drew with Cambodia with the inclusion of midfield maestro Stephan Schrock, against Singapore at Jurong West Stadium on Friday night. It was a decision that made all the difference as the TSG Hoffenheim player was instrumental in creating both of Philippines goals in a famous 2-0 victory against Singapore. 188bet Make a deposit now and earn up to SGD 388 bonus from 188BET! It was the home side that had the first attempt on goal barely five minutes into the match as Shahril Ishak cleverly spotted Shi Jiayi lurking behind the Philippines defence and the former sent in a perfect through ball to his teammate at the edge of the box. With only the goalkeeper to beat, the naturalised Singaporean hit straight into the path of England-based Philippines custodian, Neil Etheridge. It was a missed opportunity that would prove costly for the home side as the visitors took the lead just minutes later. The Singapore defence was too sloppy at the right of midifield and Schrock took full advantage of the situation to start a counter-attack and eventually lay off the ball for captain Emilio Caligdong at the edge of the penalty box. Caligdong controlled the ball well before cutting inside the defence and sending the ball to the top corner to make it a goal up for the Philippines. It was nearly disaster for Singapore in the 25th minute as Hyrulnizam Juma’at delivered a horrendous goalkick. Luckily for the home side, Philip Younghusband was not able to make full use of the situation sending his shot wide. Four minutes after the restart, Schrock was again in the thick of action as he started an attack from midfield before threading a beautiful ball to Philip who sent a well-placed curler to the far post, beyond the reach of the Singapore custodian. Caligdong almost got a second for himself as he pounced on a Patrick Reichelt cross from the right, but it was brilliantly saved on the line by Hyrulnizam using his outstretched leg. Singapore will next travel to Myanmar for a friendly on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 to continue their preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012. Philippines will meanwhile travel to Laos on September 10. Go to the comment section... some real funny comments there...

congrats Philippines, you made me proud this night. Stephan Schrock your the man!! providing some quality long balls ang trough balls, he is my MOTM no question about it. it should be 4 or 5 nil but i will take the result. i observe they only use long balls when it needed, they didn't force the ball. so different from what we saw last Wednesday. the pitch looks horrible but way better compare to the pitch in Cambodia.

The headline says it all.... ;D Schrock-led Azkals put Lions to the sword
Philippines continued their preparations for the AFF Suzuki Cup in fine style on Friday evening as they cruised to a 2-0 win over Singapore.
By Gabriel Tan at the Jurong West Stadium
Azkals captain Emelio Caligdong opened the scoring in the eighth minute when his deflected shot looped over Hyrulnizam Juma'at and into the back of the net, before Philip Younghusband wrapped things up four minutes into the second half when he raced through on goal and clinically fired into the bottom corner.
However, the star of the show was undoubtedly Philippines midfielder Stephan Schrock, who laid on assists for both goals and was, for most of the 90 minutes, completely unplayable in the middle of the park.
The manner in which Michael Weiss' charges outplayed their opponents would have pleased the German coach, especially considering they had played out a 0-0 draw with Cambodia just two days earlier and had arrived for Friday's game having not trained since.
Singapore, on the other hand, were without a host of key players through injury, including Aleksandar Duric, Juma'at Jantan and Isa Halim, although they were boosted by the return of talismanic captain Shahril Ishak, who was absent from their last game against Hong Kong.
Four minutes in, Shahril nearly made an instant impact when he picked up the ball just inside the Philippines half and threaded a visionary pass through to Shi Jiayi, only to see the Home United captain fire straight at Neil Etheridge from six yards out.
And just four minutes later, the miss proved costly as the visitors took the lead following a sweeping counterattack. Winning possession from Hariss Harun on the halfway line, Paul Mulders immediately sent Younghusband racing down the right, who in turn picked out Schrock inside the area. Despite being completely unmarked, the Hoffenheim man unselfishly slipped the ball to Caligdong, who cut inside Jufri Taha before hitting a shot that deflected off Baihakki Khaizan and over a hapless Hyrulnizam.
Buoyed by taking the lead, the Azkals began to dominate proceedings and in the 22nd minute, Shrock nearly carved open the Singapore defence again when he lofted a clever ball in search of James Younghusband, but Daniel Bennett was alert to the danger and put in a timely interception.
Three minutes later, Philippines came close again when Philip Younghusband raced through on goal after Mulders had nodded a poor clearance from Hyrulnizam into his path, only to screw his shot just wide.
Despite Lions coach Radojko Avramovic deploying two holding midfielders in Mustafic Fahrudin and Shahdan Sulaiman, neither of them was able to shackle Schrock, who was beginning to be a real creative influence for his side. Three minutes after the half-hour mark, the 26-year-old played another terrific pass for the overlapping Carli de Murga, who forced his way into the box but just failed to keep his shot on target.
Singapore then had the ball in the back two minutes later when a freekick from Shahdan was half-cleared to Shi, who drilled the ball back across the face of goal for Fazrul Nawaz to tap in, only for the strike to be chalked off by the linesman's flag.
And while they had spent much of the first period on the back foot, the Lions ended the half looking the more dangerous of the two sides. Two minutes before the break, Shi met a long ball by Bennett with a firm header that was parried unconvincingly by Neil Etheridge straight into Jason Sabio, who looked on in relief as the ball sailed just wide of the far post and bouncing off his body.
Desperate to add a different dimension to his attack, Avramovic decided to bring on Agu Casmir for Fazrul at the break, but it was Philippines who continued to dominate proceedings and four minutes into the second half, they doubled their advantage.
Picking up possession just inside the Singapore half, Schrock played an incisive ball to Philip Younghusband, who advanced into the box after beating Hariss in a one-on-one challenge before clinically firing into the bottom corner.
The same combination nearly worked again twice shortly after as Schrock continued to dissect the hosts' defence with his visionary passing, but on these occasions, Philip Younghusband was unable to beat Hyrulnizam, who was beginning to look increasingly weary at the way he was being exposed.
The LIONSXII custodian then had to be at his best in the 65th minute when he extended his left boot to keep out a piledriver by Schrock, after Di Murga had torn down the right and floated a cross towards the far post.
Seven minutes later, Casmir wasted a good chance to pull one back when he lashed a shot over the bar, after exquisitely chesting down a long pass from Mustafic and dancing past a challenge, before Shahdan sent a left-footed strike just wide from the edge of the area in the 87th minute.
Nonetheless, Philippines' lead was never really in threat as they held on for an impressive victory that is likely to sent out a real signal of intent to their Suzuki Cup rivals.
Singapore: Hyrulnizam Juma'at, Jufri Taha, Baihakki Khaizan, Hariss Harun (Safuwan Baharudin 58'), Daniel Bennett (Shaiful Esah 87'), Mustafic Fahrudin, Shahdan Sulaiman, Shi Jiayi (Nazrul Nazari 63'), Fazrul Nawaz (Agu Casmir 46'), Qiu Li (Safirul Sulaiman 68'), Shahril Ishak (Shahfiq Ghani 75').
Philippines: Neil Etheridge, Carli de Murga (Jason de Jong 90'), Robert Gier, Jason Sabio, Jeffrey Christiaens, James Younghusband (Patrick Reichelt 61'), Jerry Lucena, Stephan Schrock, Emelio Caligdong (Misagh Bahadoran 69'), Paul Mulders (Marwin Angeles 82'), Philip Younghusband (Denis Wolf 65'). www.espnstar.com/football/asian-football/news/detail/item852373/Schrock-led-Azkals-put-Lions-to-the-sword/

Applause to all the azkals players who worked their hearts out in defeating the Lions. This could lower some pride from them towards the azkals next time. It was different mode of play to see or maybe that they have improved much already. If that is their A+ game then it should serve as their reference. Midfield was controlled all the way to the final minutes. The Lions can not even synchronized their setups because of the howling defense of the azkals. The forwards seiled it all although still got some more chances to fully improved their fininshing killer instincts. One would i say is that when they are so close to the goal and face to face with the GK is to strike it hard towards the GKs face, well brute but was how I mostly noticed it on EPL and La liga. Schrock is truly wonderful with his skills in the attackiing midfield. Cheify have his guts and mojo tonight, superb in the left forward. Very good in creating chances. Moving the ball the left to the middle like Messi well 20% maybe at least. Small but cunningly terrible. I wish he will not grow old so he will a quick fox all the time. Nice finish by PYH but must also improve his ball handling skills, many times he is ahead of all the pack against a defender face to face but somehow doubt if to attack or not. He should dance the ball left or right inside the box like Messi or Ronaldo does. Because inside that sacred box strikers are almost untouchable, and if by chances, red card to the opposing player and free kick chance to score. Unsung hero is Mr. Gier who is superb in the defense, like a wall of force in the full back. But most of all, well done to all the players...thanks Azkals for the beautiful game.

I thought vimjonk was actually pretty knowledgeable about the sport but he just got too overenthusiastic about his criticism(which occasionally bordered on abusive) which got the attention of our admin. I warned him a few times to tone it down a bit but he just couldn't contain himself. I actually enjoyed his insight as well as his duel with akosiabab above.
Schrock's presence gives us an edge that helped us overcome our neighbor's resistance. I can't wait when we got the full squad in session with the proven striker Patino and Phil Y receiving his through balls in future competitions.
BTW, if anyone has a replay please feel free to post it here as my job commitments again prevented me from viewing this live.

Congratulations to the Azkals. Good win, and good showing. Haven't seen the highlights but good to read that our man Schrocky was a beast on the field. That guy is intense!
Before everyone gets too excited, this was NOT the A Singapore team. And there's a chance we may not have our A team during the Suzuki Cup especially if Schrock can't make it.
The Azkals are no longer the attack-attack-attack team that we saw when Coach W first took the reins. That team succumbed to counter attacks even from weak teams. So it seems Vimjonk is stuck with that impression. It has been perhaps a year that the team has slowly been backing off from its all-out attack strategy. I still have my criticisms of Weiss, and I still strongly believe that this team is underachieving and capable of much, much more.....

Acc. to this article, Schrock says that he probably won't make the Suzuki Cup. www.philstar.com/SportsArticle.aspx?articleId=846515&publicationSubCategoryId=69&keyword=sp_football“Joining in November is hard. I don’t know if I can come because in that week, our club plays three times in Germany. So the possibility is slim, about one percent,†said Schröck, a rightback/midfielder with Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. “If in time, something can be arranged, I’d like to join the team in November but if not, I’d stay in Germany.†As for the other players this is what Coach Weiss had to say: “Right now, we can’t say which one is coming; we’ll have to wait until beginning of November, even, before we have the final answer,†said coach Michael Weiss. “But I’m now almost certain we’ll have a keeper, that will almost be definite. Roland Muller’s new coach is a good friend and if he continues to be number two (with MSV Duisgburg), he’ll most definitely come. And Neil (Etheridge) will not be on loan and if he continues to be third choice for Fulham, he’ll also be around,†he reported. Weiss said it still a wait and see for the rest of the Fil-Europeans. “(Ray) Jonsson will be there, (Jerry) Lucena, most likely, same with (Paul) Mulders. But we have to work for (the release of) Dennis Cagara. Schrock’s case will be difficult because of the schedule of his club. But it’s not a big issue. We have to look at the long term and for the big matches, we’ll have a very strong group already, we’ll have depth,†he said. For instance, he said the roster for this ASEAN tour is teeming with talent, even with some players absent. “If Angel (Guirado), (Demit) Omphroy and (Matt) Uy are here, they will give us even more depth, they will give us a big contribution,†he said.
