KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11: Filipinos in Kuwait are gearing up for the arrival of the Philippine Azkals (Philippine National Football Team) in Kuwait on Saturday at 1:40 pm via Gulf Air from Bahrain. The Azkals are set to go up against Kuwait’s Al-Azraq National Football Team in a FIFA friendly match on Tuesday at the Kuwait Sports Club Stadium in Kaifan. According to the Kuwait Football Association, the kick-off time will be at 6:50 pm and tickets priced at KD 1, KD 2 and KD 3 are available at the stadium’s box-office. The Azkals who are currently in Bahrain for a friendly match with the Bahrain Football team on Friday after which the team will be fly off to Kuwait. The 39-man team delegation including Coach Michael Weiss and other officials will arrive in Kuwait on Saturday, according to the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait as brothers James and Phil Younghusband will be rejoining the Philippine Men’s Football National Team in Kuwait after missing the Philippine Football Peace Cup last month. On the other hand, Azkals team Manager Dan Palami and new recruit Demetrius Omphroy as well as striker Angel Guirado and goalkeeper Neil Etheridge will arrive on Sunday on different flights. Filipinos are excited to see some power-packed action between the Azkals and Al-Azraq as they hope to see a stronger Azkals this time to go up against Kuwait’s Al-Azraq. “I believe that the Azkals will give a better play this time as compared last year. They are more seasoned now as shown in the recent Philippine Football Peace Cup, not to mention the Azkals’ new recruits like in Matthew Uy, Demet Omphroy, and the newest striker Denis Wolf,” stated Jonathan Perez, an avid Azkals fan. It may be recalled that Kuwait’s Al-Azraq stopped the Azkals from its dream of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup last year. Over 15,000 Filipinos cheered for the Azkals in Qadisya Stadium during the match. In the upcoming FIFA friendly match between the two teams, Filipino fans expect the Azkals players to give their best and give Kuwait’s Al-Azraq National Football Team a head-on match on the field. www.arabtimesonline.com/NewsDetails/tabid/96/smid/414/ArticleID/188859/reftab/73/t/Philippine-team-to-arrive-Kuwait-Saturday/Default.aspx

Relive the nightmare.. 1st goal came out from a good assist by #7 Kuwaiti Ronaldinho, hope he plays and teach our defense how to dougie, to gain XP of course.
I always dream that someone or somebody in the Philippines can commentate like an Arab or Spanish commentator that sounds like he is having an orgasm for 90 mins.

Curiously with james and demit in the mix,who do you think should play RW? For me,I'd like demit to start and James to come in later in the match.

Given that we know James plays well with his brother, I'd like to see how well Omphroy would do with Phil. Against Peace Cup participants I really liked Demit. I'd also like to see how he'd fare against tougher opponents. We've seen James up against Kuwait already anyway.

Wow was our defense that stagnant back then? Our current players do move around a lot more. Definitely more assertive.

I would like to see first the Euro Boys and Veterans to start vs Kuwait and then slowly insert the Peace Cup boys particularly Porteria, Uy, Omphroy "since he is coming from hospitalization", Reichelt, Christiens, De Murga "if he is already recovered" and Bahadoran.
Etheridge Jonsson Gier J.Guirado Cagara JYH Lucena A.Guirado Mulders Caligdong PYH
Etheridge DeMurga/Jonsson Gier J.Guirado Cagara Angeles UY Omphroy Reichelt Christiens PYH/Wolf/Porteria
We have a deeper Lineup vs Kuwait It is confusing for me Who will I Put on the Starting Positions particularly in Midfield spots.hehe ;Dthat's why I Think of this scenarios but I Don't know How will PC boys will fair againts Kuwait if my wish will happen.hehe ;D

Kuwait is a far leap better than Bahrain even though their FIFA rankings are very close(if I have time I'll write about it in my blog). Here is my projected lineup. The line up we used vs Bahrain had two DM's and I cannot see the coach not using it again. With a few of our mainstays back, we will be stronger than we were vs Kuwait in last years WCQ but Kuwait still remains the teacher and us as the student. A tie here will even be more significant than the Bahrain match. Remember the 2nd half vs Bahrain, if you multiply that by 3 that might be the pressure we get versus Kuwait and most likely longer than just a half! The lineup: Gier & Juani at CB for obvious reasons. Cagara too at the LB. It doesn't seem like Carli was as sick as Demit O so by this time I would play him at least if he can last a good 50-60 minutes. Why not Demit? As good as he was in the PFPC he has never played with the other established veterans plus Kuwait is a different animal from Macau, Guam & Taiwan altogether. I'd like to see him play in the later stages of course, I think he should be able to handle himself speed and skillwise against Kuwait. Lucena and Mulders at DM will be the focal point of our whole team. If they can remain effective on defense and able to initiate good counters, then we can be competitive. If you're wondering about Mulders, he has played DM for us and was quite effective. His and Lucenas adequate skills, height and bulk will prevent Kuwait attackers to focus on beating just the CB's and goalie. I have confidence enough on Marwin's ability to play this position as a sub even against the likes of Kuwait but would rather play Jonsson as 1st sub at DM but this is unlikely. Watch the DM position on Tuesday, I think this will be where the important battles will be played. Chieffy at LM. He still remains our second best goal scorer and has been willing to play defense too. James Yh at RM. With his brother playing it is imperative he plays. If you don't think so, you haven't watched these two guys play together for too long. James is also an excellent opportunistic scorer when given the chance. Angel Guirado at CM/CF. Yes, I have issues about Angel unwise choices when it comes to handling the ball but he is a all or nothing player and his motor never quits. He has the size and technical skills to get in the mix on an attack. He is the third best scorer of the Azkals after Phil and Chieffy. He is also on a goal scoring streak. He has scored 2 goals vs Guam for the Azkals and in two games with Salgaocar FC(Indian premier league) has scored two goals too. He should be match fit. If he cannot come/play then Mulders back at this position with Jonsson partnering with Lucena but thats not gonna happen as Weiss favors Marwin at DM. Phil at the front, with Wolf as a strong substitute. I realize this game is just a windup for the Suzuki Cup, but I would really want to draw those guys(or even beat them) just because of last years WCQ defeat

By the way, on the Kuwait match replays, did you see how the Kuwaiti goalscorer no.20 (on the first goal) spat at the line ref after scoring the goal? True class (not).

Articles: Azkals get Etheridge boost for Kuwait gameBy ESPNSTAR.com staff Philippines have received a huge boost ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Kuwait following news that goalkeeper Neil Etheridge will be joining up with the squad. Etheridge, who is contracted to Barclays Premier League outfit Fulham but currently on loan at Bristol Rovers, has been regarded as the Azkals' first-choice keeper since earning his first cap in 2008. However, club commitments have often hindered his involvement with Philippines, and with the AFF Suzuki Cup just over a month away, the 22-year-old is yet to confirm he will be freed to play in Southeast Asia's premier international tournament. Nonetheless, Etheridge confirmed via his Twitter account on Saturday he will be joining up with Michael Weiss' squad to take on Kuwait, just a day after his international colleagues recorded an impressive 0-0 draw at Bahrain, who are ranked 32 places higher than them in the FIFA world rankings. "I will be joining the [Philippines] team in Kuwait tomorrow [Sunday] evening," he tweeted. "First is [the] big game at Burton [Albion in Npower League 2] today [Saturday]." Etheridge's availability comes as a further boost to the Azkals as they finalise their preparation for the Suzuki Cup, following news that talismanic brothers James and Philip Younghusband will be meeting up with the team in Kuwait City, after a scheduling conflict saw them miss the game against Bahrain. www.espnstar.com/football/asian-f....or-Kuwait-game/ Visa hitch keeps team at airport for 6 hours Philippine Azkals arrive in KuwaitKUWAIT CITY, Oct 13: The Philippine Azkals arrived in Kuwait from Bahrain on Saturday at around 1:14 pm but were stuck at the Kuwait International Airport for six hours due to the delay in the processing of their visas upon arrival despite the presence of some officials from the Kuwait Football Association who were there to welcome and assist the team led by its Azkals coach Michael Weiss. Philippine embassy officials headed by Vice Consul Sheila Monedero, Assistance to Nationals Unit Head Dalidig Ibrahim Tanandato, Welfare Officer Norlita Lugtu and Edd Dabuet also waited for the Azkals at the arrival hall until 7:00 pm. Some Azkals fans took their gripes for the long delay on Twitter wherein visa should have been issued beforehand. In response, the Kuwait Football Association in its official Twitter account tweeted to the Azkals fans: “@kuwaitfa: We extend our deep apology to Philippines Team and Community, the delay at airport was beyond our control.” Despite the visa hitch, the Philippine Azkals are on high spirits, fresh from its impressive performance after surprising Bahrain with a scoreless draw in a friendly on Friday night at the Al Muharraq Stadium in Manama. The Azkals are set to go up against Kuwait’s Al-Azraq National Football Team in a FIFA friendly match on Tuesday at the Kuwait Sports Club Stadium in Kaifan. According to the Kuwait Football Association, the kick-off time will be at 6:50 pm and tickets priced at KD 1, KD 2 and KD 3 will be available at the stadium’s box-office.
