My prediction? Shall be based on the following: a. Younghusbands (particularly Phil) providing more feedings than the intention of scoring and let Denis Wolf and Chieffy or Ian do the scoring => 3-0 PHL wins b. Guirado in the pitch, instead of Denis Wolf or Phil or Chieffy, with Paul Mulder, Jerry & James => 2-1 PHL wins c. Younghusbands & Guirado in the pitch w/o Denis Wolf and Chieffy or Ian => 2-0 THA wins Hey, I'm no expert but I know how to play the game.... welcome to the forum! I like the idea of Phil being the provider, as we have seen against Singapore, he is very capable of doing such, plus, he would surely be heavily marked thus would open more opportunities if he involves his teammates.

I think it was during the last Singapore friendly that Bob(?) quoted Phil, saying that during his time with Chelsea up until Mcmenemy he always was a withdrawn or second striker. Only with Weiss did he move(with great results by the way). Phil is, without a doubt a very good passer so should be helpful in setting up Wolf. Denis, by the way, should perform very well with a second striker supporting him. With Wolf and Phil supplying offensive pressure our defense will have breathing space/time and could also be much more deadly in the counter. Once again our midfield is stacked, hopefully Weiss can put together the best combination for our coming matches. Conventional wisdom say, the best we probably can do is a draw but I wouldn't mind being proved wrong with a win!

maybe an upset is again brewing in the sidelines, the Thai and the Veits are still understamating our team's capacity and if they do that then they will be having a big surprise, our team is almost complete( we lack Stephen but his absence is well compensated by the arrival of angel, cagara, lucena and mulders) so my prediction against Thailand is a weel fought draw or a 1-0 scoreline for either team
My first XI ARE (in 4-1-3-1-1) Neil on goal ( nice to know he could play the 3 games)
cagara-sabio-juani-jonhsson on D - cagara will be fundamental in our counters here because of his speed,
Lucena as DF
JYH-Mulders-Omphroy I think cagara and Jyh will be ideal in overlapping, mulders will act as a driver in our offense in the middle, his field vesion is important in this game, omphroy will be a good addition in offense plus his depensive capabilities will help johnsson since at times he is slow in chassing in counters
Angel as AM his height, strenght and ball control gives him the edge against smaller opponents
PYH as striker he is still our best scorer no matter what
Subs Gier, Marwin, Wolf, Reichelt, Jeffrey C, Jdj, sacapano
No gener and araneta
we have a very solid team and the best way to maximize the teams potential is find spaces specially when angel or phil gets two dependers and since this midfield has all the mindset on scoring goals
This time is what i like the most in football, the anticipation of the game, we may have a result that we don't like but the mixed emotions you feel before during and after the games are just wonderful:-)

I prefer Beloya being the target man over Wolf if we use Phil as a playmaker as Wolf I believe don't have a technical ability to score. So prefer Phil as a target man and Wolf as a playmaker since he does it well and we have JYh playing with Phil and good crosser of Cagara. Just my thoughts though.

What a wonderful world we live in now that we can actually talk about attacking options.
However, I do recall Weiss saying he'll play conservatively against Thailand. So we'll probably see the team rely on counters. That should favor the tastes of the newbie filipino football fan as our possessions will consist of bursts of speed to the goal (fast break, anyone?).
Anyhoo, we're up for an exciting match! As long as we don't concede early goals (we're notoriously slow to settle into the game) I think we'll do well.

this is my first 11 against Thailand *RB- if Carli is still injured, Omphroy is our best option to cover him *LW- no offense to Cheiffy but i think we need to field our best starters as much as possible. Angel is very effective at this position *CAM- i don't know but Reichelt impresses me that makes me think he deserves to be part at the starting 11. he can play at either RW,CAM or FW *RW- i personally like Reichelt to start and play at this position but with James' ability to read the run from his brother would make me think that he should start at RW. if ineffective, we still have plenty of options at the bench

although the thai and vietnamese fans seem to underestimate us, their management and coaching staff surely don't. Weiss said he doesn't want to sit back and play higher up the field. Against thailand though, being the first match and against a home crowd, i think its better to sit back and just counter attack. this thai side is deadly. but still beatable if weiss plays it right.
I've already seen a couple of proposed lineup posts that did not include Rob Gier. in my opinion, this is just unacceptable. We already have Neil, lets not waste it by not including Gier in the back four. aside from defending, his job is to organize the defense. Together with him is Juani to man mark the opponents' strikers much like he did with Duric during the Singapore game. Jonsson at LB while at RB Carli or Omphroy.
midfield is so stacked, Weiss can practically start anybody and it would be okay.
count on it that Phil will be heavily marked, i also like the idea that he be a feeder instead of a scorer. if he plays with this mindset, the possibilities are endless!

This situation of playing this kind of system for the first game had happened and used by Coach W against North Korea in the AFC CC where they stay defensive. Good thing though but I guess we need to think of a better attacking option since we have more scorers now.

Agree!!! against Thailand its very dangerous to just park the bus..that will give them more confidence and I'm afraid for our dangerous tackles sometimes that may lead to a penalty kick....its better to show them our attacking style of play.

I really don't know but I have a feeling that Weiss will use Wolf to team up with Phil upfront again. :/

i dont like Wolf bcoz he dont have the finishing touch. Me too! And I like your suggested formation too. But I guess Sabio wouldn't play since he's still injured. And I guess it's better to use Angel over Mulders. Mulders with Lucena, Juani with rob on CB, Jonsson switch with Denis Cagara. Carli couldn't play as well I guess. So i'll put Omphroy as sub for Jonsson Reichelt for JYh. Watchatink?
