Let's drop the argument, guys. Let's instead switch to the fact that the Philippines have made it to the top 4 for two consecutive editions of the AFF Suzuki Cup and hopefully the 3rd time will be the charm. steamroll: Good luck to your team tonight. fact is a fact, no offense.. salamat and gud luck to filipinas too

See the flow of the scores. PHI score comes first. Sept 7 - 2-0 Nov 15 - 1-0 Dec 8 - 0-0 Dec 12 - 0-1 Seems 12-12-12 isn't a lucky day for us
By the way, what can you say from this basketball player? First is Justin Bieber for Pacquiao and then next is this for Azkals /photo/1 An Azkal Fan posted than on PHL Azkals FB Page He's different from JV Casio, Chris Tiu and Asi Taulava who are Azkal Fans. Well just sharing I replaced it with just URL. You can still look at it by clicking the URLakala mo ang layo ng narating nitong batang ito.. pang UAAP pa lang nman.. unfortunately, edsa was stunned with that shot. he was just stand there, as well as the others. but edsa have realyy done a great job this tourney, far exceeding expectations of many. props to our back four especially gier, though there were times we were just lucky that singaporeans were not able to deliver well. ilang beses rin silang muntik-munitkan n ring makagoal ulit... cagara have proved himself well in this tournament, though i didn't like his performance last night.. as well as reichelt, but reichelt did shine also.. chieffy still got the sparks.. midfiled was hardly felt in some parts of the first half.. i bet both mulders and lucena could have played better.. mixed emotions with angel, i was happy with his goal against myanmar but was frustrated with last night.. he should have been a sub, and should learn to control the ball better, he looses possession a lot making bad passes.. though i was not impressed with the younghusbands this tourney they lack intensity or look tired easily..even the commentators in star sports saw it..

Throwing bottle of water onto our players by sin. fans after the game just trigger the rivalry would suggest Azkals fans could prepare or come up an idea to intimidate their players next time around, and lastly crowd improvement

Woke up still feeling dejected after the loss last night. After the ref blew his his whistle, I couldn't watch anymore. I ended up just having tums for dinner. Le sigh!!! This loss is such a bitter pill to swallow knowing the lads could do better. Woke up still feeling dejected this morning. I may have to talk to my Indonesian colleague again to lift me up a bit. Now we can commiserate with each other. I hope Malaysia wins in the other match because I'll be cheering for them.

Wow! I can't imagine this thing is happening to me..
When I woke up, I dreamed of The goal stunned EdSa where in he thought the ball was going wide and the only goal of Sunderland over Chelsea's victory last time, where Peter Cech also thought the ball was also going wide looks like the same and then I also dreamed of Wizards vs Houston's game of NBA HT score 41-45 look now at HT the score is 42-45 at HT. haha and here's the one that really hurts me when I woke up, the 1-0 number flashes on my mind on and on.
Well I need to move on, I hope Philippines will do better next time. Good Day everyone..

Still feels sad. disappointed. Because we were that close! and i mean really... really... close! why? we were in the semis 2nd leg with only needing one goal to qualify in the 2nd half. we just weren't able to get a clear, decent shot on goal. I watched the semis in 2010 and was satisfied with a 1-0 home and away (2-0 aggregate) lost to Indonesia both occasion on Indonesian soil. This time, we had a home game but failed to produce a single goal. then we had a second chance to do it in the return leg only needing an away goal. still we fell short. we had that best chance/scenario to make it through.forgive me for this, but this is my view,
I know that Dennis Wolf was not utilized much due to a knock he got in the group stage but we have to admit it that he is better than Angel Guirado for one simple reason... he scores goals! and I mean GOALS! based on ratio of goal scored over games played, Wolf is better than Angel. again, in other ways he is... in speed, agility to name some. Yes we saw Angel can burst in speed if he had a go ahead chance. But he reminds me of Dimitar Berbatov. skillful but slow most of the time. yes I said that. he is slow and a ball hog? yes. he likes to control the ball but takes him too long it sticks on his foot. he likes to play the ball close to him longer than other people which did not help our team. he's got the skills but for a striker against a Singaporean back line, I would not have made him a starter. last night's game, Guirado had several plays where he could have immediately pushed the ball to either PYH or JYH or even Mulders, but he turns his back from the goal to protect the ball, turns around looking down on the ball and not looking around for teammates, then he tries to bring the ball around a defender which we all know has been faster than him throughout the semis, he had options left and right but did not take it. yet, he would proceed with his mentality to try an outrun or outclass the defender by dribbling the ball which we all saw has not been effective against this singaporean side. EPIC FAIL.
we saw it in the 1st leg that he could not outrun his defender, yet, Coach Weiss elected him to play the whole game in the 2nd leg. Whatever we hear, it is evident that PYH and Angel Guirado are not a good tandem. I would rather prefer Mulders+Wolf, PYH+Wolf or Mulders+PHY upfront. Just not the Guirado+PYH together. Guirado had one assist against Vietnam but that was the only time he had a successful pass, aside from that, I have not seen a good pass from him. again he tries to showboat with back heel passes we saw last night that went directly to a singaporean defender.
another thing is Mulders is a better offensive threat than using him as a holding midfielder. we got Angeles twins or De Jong to play the mid why not use them? then use Mulders upfront.
another thing that bothered me is why did Chieffy not get the starting nod??? we all know he scores goals. and his age does not show his decrease in speed. we saw that in the 2nd half. ever since, he plays with heart and he is/was a soldier and should not be questioned or doubted in his stamina. Why was reicheilt starting? Weiss gave too much trust to players taht played a single game well over a player that the nation have relied on for several years.
we all needed a barrage of chances. we needed a goal. why was this not the mind set of Weiss going with virtually a similar squad (except for Lucena in place for De Jong) that was not able to egg out a single goal in the 1st leg. he had the same line-up that was cancelled out/contained by Singapore in RMS, yet, he did not adjusted.
Weiss applied the same formation and tactic he used in the 1st leg. what should we expect? the same offensive set. no goals.
our defense was hands-down superb in the game. the only way singapore scored was thru a free-kick which the defense had little thing to do to prevent. our midlfield improved but could have been better with the right personnel on.
Chieffy, Angeles or De Jong should have played in MID at the start.
Angel should have been replaced by Wolf (since he got to play in the end, why didnt they use him from the start).
I was really puzzled with Weiss tactics. Wolf was available but he did not bother to use him earlier say in the last 25 to 30 minutes. he only brought Wolf on in the dying minutes of the game but we saw he had a direct impact in the game.
One last thing, why was Weiss to keen on the LONG BALL? we wasted our passes because of all the long balls. is it because he thought we were taller it would benefit us attacking with the long ball? most of the long balls were headed away or intercepted by Singapore. this is what KILLED us.
in the last 25 minutes of the game, the Philippines dominated the possession and even the attack and this is greatly due to the adjustment that we made omitting the long ball and just passing the ball around low as this gave a better flow to our game. if this was done from the start, I think we would have won. The long ball game was employed in the 1st leg and was carried over in the 2nd leg and this was even discussed by the analyst both from AKTV and even ESPN/Star Sports that the Azkals were too reliant on LONG ball passes and were hoping too high for a break away chance which was clearly not a good tactic.
we should have controlled the possession on the ground and have taken the game to Singapore and not the Long ball which clearly just gave Singapore better chances in attack.
how many crosses did we have? 3 to 5? and how many were connected? none!
our offense ended everytime we had the ball in the air (long ball or cross). only our defense were able to keep up with the ball in the air. the offense? ball in the air is a no no.
watch the game replay again and try to observe to see where I am coming from. We had the squad to win it. but fell short. I truly believe we really could have beaten singapore and even Thailand in the group stage if some things were changed.

Well, the roller coaster ride ended last night. Fine with me since we made history again by playing our home game at Rizal.
Goes to show that we still depend on our Fil-Euros to provide much of the manpower and talents while our homegrown players and the UFL is still developing.
Maybe in March we will perform better in the AFC Challenge Cup (which I believe is a more important tournament than the AFF Suzuki Cup) since football developing countries in whole of Asia are involved. Hope that the likes of Etheridge and Schrock can participate. Also, hoping that this guy JAVIER PATINO (FC Cordoba) will be released and be able to play as striker.
Till then, Merry Christmas to all!

Dissecting the SIN goal, I think Sacapano's view was blocked by all the players in front of him and by the time he saw that the ball was on target it was already too late for him to react. The defenders were waiting for a long-range strike but they were left rooted in their spots when SIN took the free kick short and changed the angle of approach for the eventual kicker.
Also, to address the lack of offensive threat, we really need to get real strikers like Patino. Phil was a withdrawn striker/CAM when he was at Chelsea IIRC, Angel is a CM, same with Mulders. Wolf, I'm not sure if he was also a striker when he was younger. If we could get Patino and another natural striker then we could use the current ones as second/withdrawn strikers or CAMs. Look at the SIN friendly in Cebu when Phil was used more like a RW MF. His crosses were better and more accurate. He has slowed down, he may not be good enough to be the lone target man on top.

Congratulations to the team, 2 semis in a row is still quite an accomplishment considering where we were before that. It was painful to watch that match, very frustrating. Though let's not forget that all the way to the 93rd minute we still had a chance to go through.
While our team played pretty much below par, it wasn't a convincing win for Singapore. Sure they were the better team last night no doubt about that but the better team doesn't win all the time (ex. last season's UEFA champions league semi between Chelsea and Barcelona) in football, sometimes all that is needed one shot at goal that goes in for a match to be settled. Too bad it didn't happen for our team last night.
As for tactics, line-up, aggressiveness on and off the ball, etc. it's been great reading all the various insights and comments here.
One thing that intrigues me is that it has been pretty obvious in this tournament that Mulders isn't that effective playing a holding midfield role. He needs to play further forward in his favored CAM role, where the improvement in his game was noticeable right away, particularly during our team's second halves where we get stronger offensively.
Considering that in addition to Lucena, there are 3 quite capable holding mids in De Jong, Greatwich and Marwin Angeles (who did quite well when he was sent in against Thailand in 2nd half), why has coach insisted on playing Mulders in a deeper role? Is it because of James Younghusband? If Coach Weiss opted for one of the natural mids to pair with Lucena or 2 of those mids in the absence of Lucena, he could have played Mulders where he is more effective - as CAM in a 4-2-3-1 or withdrawn striker in a 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2. In addition, this will allow Reichelt to play on his favored side on the right wing and Guirado or Chieffy could alternate on the left, or Chieffy can come in for Reichelt play on the left and Guirado moves to the right. Of course, this would leave no space for James in the starting 11. That question keeps spinning around my head. The only explanation I could think of is Coach Weiss was banking on the experience of James perhaps?
One thing about the late substitution of Wolf. Keep in mind that Ed Sacapano was on a yellow card. The coach has to factor that in. I agree that Wolf should have been subbed in earlier as more energy and pace was needed on the offensive line but you have to weigh that with a possibility of losing your keeper on a second yellow and not having any substitution left to make to bring in the reserve keeper. In football anything can happen, that's the beauty of the game.
