IMO.. Lessons learned from all these experience: (1) Disappointment most of the time are caused by too much expectations (2) Football has only one language = TEAMWORK! (3) Skills and Talent alone sometimes doesn't work on football (4) Be patient when others cannot, be optimistic when others would not I know for a fact the next succeeding years will be an exciting times for PHI Football.. We Always Believe..

Congratulations to the team, 2 semis in a row is still quite an accomplishment considering where we were before that. It was painful to watch that match, very frustrating. Though let's not forget that all the way to the 93rd minute we still had a chance to go through. While our team played pretty much below par, it wasn't a convincing win for Singapore. Sure they were the better team last night no doubt about that but the better team doesn't win all the time (ex. last season's UEFA champions league semi between Chelsea and Barcelona) in football, sometimes all that is needed one shot at goal that goes in for a match to be settled. Too bad it didn't happen for our team last night. As for tactics, line-up, aggressiveness on and off the ball, etc. it's been great reading all the various insights and comments here. One thing that intrigues me is that it has been pretty obvious in this tournament that Mulders isn't that effective playing a holding midfield role. He needs to play further forward in his favored CAM role, where the improvement in his game was noticeable right away, particularly during our team's second halves where we get stronger offensively. Considering that in addition to Lucena, there are 3 quite capable holding mids in De Jong, Greatwich and Marwin Angeles (who did quite well when he was sent in against Thailand in 2nd half), why has coach insisted on playing Mulders in a deeper role? Is it because of James Younghusband? If Coach Weiss opted for one of the natural mids to pair with Lucena or 2 of those mids in the absence of Lucena, he could have played Mulders where he is more effective - as CAM in a 4-2-3-1 or withdrawn striker in a 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2. In addition, this will allow Reichelt to play on his favored side on the right wing and Guirado or Chieffy could alternate on the left, or Chieffy can come in for Reichelt play on the left and Guirado moves to the right. Of course, this would leave no space for James in the starting 11. That question keeps spinning around my head. The only explanation I could think of is Coach Weiss was banking on the experience of James perhaps? One thing about the late substitution of Wolf. Keep in mind that Ed Sacapano was on a yellow card. The coach has to factor that in. I agree that Wolf should have been subbed in earlier as more energy and pace was needed on the offensive line but you have to weigh that with a possibility of losing your keeper on a second yellow and not having any substitution left to make to bring in the reserve keeper. In football anything can happen, that's the beauty of the game. agree with most of your points. but may I ask, if Weiss was cautious bringing Wolf on due to EdSa's yellow card, in the first place, why is Wolf coming off the bench?

Actually watched the game and was better than what I had expected from South East Asian footie.
I thought until the 2nd half, the Philippines had no sense of direction or a strategy whatsoever. Especially the likes of Guirado and Phil Younghusband, really disappointed the core of the team. I thought Singapore weren't that much better than you guys, they were merely repelling your attacks.
Anyways, well done on reaching this far. Hope 2013 will be kinder to you lot.
All the best.

Eto kasi ang sagot sa kahirapan: no matter how good Patiño if he will only get two chances to score a goal in a 2 legged series... would still be the same...

i was not happy with the last performance of the azkals tbh. we are losing the ball MUCH to easy and many times also for no reason. we got the ball in our backline with no pressure at all and instead of slowly building up an attack....all we do is kicking the ball in front to the enemy defenders -_- so nonsense. its a sign of desperation play,...u only do it in the last minutes when the players are already tired but not all game long.
what i also recognize is that when we are in charge of an attack, there is no reinforcement from the backline. we are always in the minority when it comes to attack.
also what i saw many times is that we do have a high miss pass rate. overall i got the feeling that the team was much to cautious and they missed to show the absolute intention of winning.
they know after the 1-0 that they would lose but they didnt show that they want to qualify for the finals. i think rob gier is also not the right captain...hes too polite tbh. we need someone who can push the players and give them a morale boost. someone who can shout at our own players and motivate them, some real badass lol.
hay im just sad we didnt progress it. but still its a big achievment to be in the semis again. next time our goal needs to win this cup. im sure if we had a better tactic and more passion we could have won the turnament, since the other teams werent that much better (in case of quality)

agree with most of your points. but may I ask, if Weiss was cautious bringing Wolf on due to EdSa's yellow card, in the first place, why is Wolf coming off the bench? That is a good question donsyete. Why didn't Weiss start with Wolf and put in a fresher Phil in the second half? It has been obvious in the first leg that Singapore knew how to deal with Phil. Mix it up a bit. Done is done, but it bears pointing out that the Star Sports panel commenting on that match were pretty critical of the fitness levels and form of the Younghusband brothers and this was before the match even started. In their opinion, the brothers appeared to have regressed and are not on the same level as they were 2 years ago. The panel even pointed out that at their current age they should be at the peak or prime of their playing abilities but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Two main things for me - a) After the first half, we still had zero shots on goal. Zero. Nil. No shot, no goal. Playing on artificial turf, the ball skips on the ground, and rolls faster. The Singaporeans knew it, and were shooting or taking shots outside of the box. In fact, their goal was also from outside the box. One attempt also skipped by the left post so close. Meanwhile, we were trying to take the ball inside the 18. And we could not, as we would lose the ball when we reach the fringes. b) Angel needed to simplify his game, play smarter, expeciall his passing in the 2nd half. It looked like he had more passes to Singaporean defenders than to ours. In effect, everytime we passed the ball to him, SG collapses on him, and he would make the bad pass, helping SG.
Salamat.
