what a big win by the Sparks, beating the dismantled Army 10-1. I hate to say this but this scoreline only shows that there's a big disparity between the Armed Forces teams and the big clubs in the UFL.

the air force guys must really hate the sparks. their game last sunday was bordering on the ridiculous w/ the game officials apparently deciding to deal w/ the goons of the air force team w/ kid gloves
the ufl should really look into the officiating before the league implodes

the goons of the air force team... Once my favorite team but you are right, once they start getting dominated or the opposing team is as physical as they are they resort to cheap shots. Plain and simply "goons". Though a majority of the team are honest to goodness fair players like Ian Araneta, Dolloso and a few other vets. The saying, "A few bad apples ruin the whole bunch" never rang truer. Btw, the worst offenders are the new guys recently brought in. Neckson Leonora and Albor. If you've been watching UFL a few season now, you'd know Albor has remained the same, a cheap shot artist but Leonora was never like this before!

i really love underdog teams so i rooted for the PAF against Loyola on their last game, they played well until they became frustrated late in the second half. i observed Albor is a good player with an average skill but his problems is he can't control his temper. credit for Dolloso for saving his team, if only this guy a six-footer, he could be one of the tough goalies here in the Philippines.

I had a chance to sit and discuss the change with someone from AKTV at a recent UFL match. My source is very familiar with the situation there. Apparently, MVP has been paying channel 13 for air time for all of the sports which they air in prime time on that station, which amounts to a lot of air time. Note the MVP organization owns several channels, but these are in the higher channel region. The MVP organization sought out a lower channel to improve distribution of their programming. However, my source indicates that the monthly cost of the air time on this channel was approaching P120mn / month (!). Since the revenues generated by the programming could not match the costs, the economics of the programming had been bleeding red for quite some time. Finally, something had to be done, so the programming was moved to an MVP owned station. I understand from my source that this will also mean the demise of the AKTV brand, but this is not yet confirmed. It remains to be seen how this will affect viewership...

At this time, it think it is not really possible to have a full sports channel in free television. Maybe they have looked at the data and saw that more people are watching through cable television.
You'll notice they are more ads in ETC rather than in AKTV even they are showing the PBA.

At least I actually get better signal/reception on AKSYONTV then AKTV. At least I can still watch UFL though I fear for its future even as the stands get more fans attending than ever before.
Did anyone see the Stallions vs Global match? The stands were full with dozens and dozens more watching from behind the fences. It was great to see and the match had the feel of a championship game and I must say very well played by both teams. If this is local football then we really should feel glad, even Stallion played a lot of local players and they strutted their stuff well.
On the flip side, I don't understand why PAF is always on TV showing their wicked ways? Neckson Leonora, after a play has been whistled dead came from behind the Turkish Global player and kicked his leg from behind!! Before that a PAF player elbowed Starosta on the back of the head and the ref completely missed it or chose not to do anything! Yesterday another PAF player was clearly shown elbowing an opposing player just because BOTH were battling for the ball. As a matter of fact every broadcasting team calling their games has mentioned those cheap shots and the teams tendency for violence when they are being out played yet we have not heard of disciplinary actions. Truly this is not good for the new fan watching a UFL game for the first time. Next season might be their last in Div 1, good riddance to them since they seemed to have lost the class that they showed two seasons ago when they were champions.
Somebody sign Ian Araneta out of that team at least this guy still plays like a champ.

Here's the thing: AKTV on Ch. 13 can't really compete with the big guys at ABS-CBN Ch. 2, GMA Ch 7, and even their parent network TV5 as the bigger portion of the public are more into those sensational news, cheapskate telenovelas, and awfully-dubbed Hollywood films! Here in the PI, the ratings game is certainly made for the entertainment programmes, not sports shows or documentary programs that small-time free TV channels do (Solar News channel or UNTV, for instance). Compare that to Europe where say, a Premiership match or a science documentary fare more ratings than soap operas. Maybe it's about how mature our viewing audience is and how wide their choices are.
TV5's attempt to redeem some lost income by moving their sports programs to the main channels might be OK at the moment but it's certainly not in the long run.

Maybe better to invest the quality of the UHF Channels rather than pay rental fees for IBC-13.

okay so if the Armed forces teams will be relegated into the division two next season, it would help the league and will surely look more professional. these armed forces players doesn't deserve a chance to play in the top league if they continue to mess-up. but im still optimistic that some of the clubs in division one will sign a few promising players from PAF and Army naming Araneta, Margarse, Becite, Sacapano and etc.
