it was a solid performance for us. most of the players contributed, even the subs made an impact except for Daniels who lost the ball many times. he wasted too many opportunities but it's okay since he's still young and there's still lot of time for him to improve. i was also nervous to see O'Donnell manning the post but the good thing is the Nepalese rarely threatened our goal. he was shaky at times just like some of his recent games with Kaya, but he did quite well. our defense was very solid all throughout the game except in one instance where Gier and Rota made an error. Juani is still Juani, our wall in the back, but he has to lessen his long-balls. i guess he's really fond of longballs. for Sato, at first i thought he was too thin and small to be our fullback but his great ball-handling and composure made me think that Dooley will be having a hard time on choosing who between him and Christiaens or Cagara will be our starter at LB. Rota has also build his legacy at the back that can make Anton and Carlie just a reliever. im very excited to see our new players play again. especially Doctora,Sato and Dizon. Dizon's trickery made me want to see more of him. plus Doctora, more caps and playing time for him please!

I really like how deep our team is becoming. The more competition, the better the team becomes, and most of the new players are young and will be contributing to our national team for a long time to come. With the plethora of talent, I am very curious who will make it to the final 23 for the Challenge Cup. Many veterans who were assured of having a guaranteed spot in the team in the past, might not even make it. Dooley hasn't even seen many of our European based players who were mainstays in the past. Will they be included for the Challenge Cup, even though they have not yet practiced with the team and have not been introduced to the style of play that Dooley prefers?
xyz, not only is our team more organized, but it is also playing an attractive style that will attract more fans and help popularize the sport back home. This style should be adopted by our local coaches as it is suited to the Filipino physique and climate and hopefully can serve as the defining style of play that Filipino football will be known for in the future.

i wonder who will man the post in challenge cup. If Neil or Muller would be available against Malaysia. Maybe one of them will start at the Challenge Cup. But if none of them, We will have these two young GK in the mold of Deyto and O'Donnel.

I wonder what's the right call for steuble.. bob calls him "stoybol", eventually in the 2nd half I heard he said "stuble" but imho, this is their best performance by far... I have a high hopes that they'll gonna win it this time against malaysia

This is the first time I've seen a Dooley-led Azkal match. Passing, defense, and player rotation vastly improved compared to Weiss' tenure. I've compared the last Nepal match @ Rizal Stadium with this match as well, and I'm quite surprised we played more possession game than last time. And just imagine if we have Schrock and Patino available

Just saw the game, and what I can say is, the team is now more patient in the build up, no rush passes and long balls, when there is no open man up front they pass back to the back 4 and restart, with more practice and friendlies, we can hope for the best to come, and the use of youngsters is a sign that the coach is giving all players the chance to show they deserve to be in the national team. With this team against nepal plus add shrock, lucena, cagara mulders, patino plus our 2 keepers, then the dream to win the challenge cup is becoming more of a reality. Any news about the Ott brothers? And where will you put christaenes, angel guirado( if in top form) mark hartman and porteira in that mix? We now have a deep pool of players that even i some are missing we can still have a competitive team. Have you guys notice the goals of dizon and doctora? The stop and execution of the goal is almost identical

A style that suits the climate?!?! lol. I've read another post of yours somewhere where you said the exact same thing. What the hell does that even mean?! I think you're taking the piss with that one!

Just finished watching the 2nd half. Thanks for posting.
The teamwork and patience observed in the 1st half continued into the 2nd and that was great to see. I’ll start with Doctora since I’ve commented before that I would take a wait-and-see attitude. He does have speed, no doubt about that. If he did not score that goal he would be most remembered by the one he missed right in front where all he had to do was punch it into the net. Maybe he is weak on the left foot, maybe he was just nervous, maybe it’s the one goal missed out of ten that would normally go in. Whatever the case, I hope we don’t see anything like that again. Dooley will not want to see that again. But he redeemed himself, and redeem he did with that wonderful finish – great throughball from Greatwich, redirect ball from left to right to beat the defense, and into the net with the right foot. I hope to see more of him and to see him face a stronger defense if he’s to improve his play. He looks much better than Ian Araneta ever was, and maybe even Caligdong at his prime. The big advantage for him is that Dooley’s style is perfectly suited for him – attacks on the ground and numerous and short passes.
Rota was solid, so was Steuble, and De Jong is maturing. I’d like to see more of them. Del Rosario can still deliver although if we’re to look for improvements I don’t know how much more we can expect from him.
As for the PYH’s shot at the end, I’d have him take that shot 100% of the time. A pass to the right may have looked like one to an open man, but there was one more defender in front.
If we’re to enter the Challenge Cup, the question of whether or how to include the European- and other-based players is now a problem for Dooley. I see good cohesion that evaded the previous coach. But players like Schrock, Patino, and Mulders are technically better. Just like Doctora, I think the style of play suits Mulders better than before.
In summary, a great showing both 1st and 2nd halves. I can hardly wait for that game with Malaysia.

brimstone,
True, It is hard to practice this style of game in the Philippines because of the uneven fields and the muddy conditions during the rainy season, but this is the style of play that many of the FIFA and the DFB consultants have recommended in the past, all the way to Zgoll back in the 1970's. It is ideal for the Filipino physique, as it does not rely upon height as much. With the proliferation of artificial pitches in Manila, it is now possible to practice this style more frequently.
