After the match against the Inferno (and admittedly it might just be due to the post-match downer period) I have my doubts that we'd be as dominant as we thought we would be against USVI. I'd like to see our 2nd half lineup start.

My heart says 2-1 win, but my head says we will probably lose. Anyway, this is not about winning, this is about trying out new players for the future. Good luck Azkals!

Rob Gier: At the airport, next stop Chicago!..... Told you so... Giero's comin' for the USVI friendly 'coz it's near a Fifa match date, and his injury ain't serious.

some of the 1st team players are coming?? ;D ;D ;D As far as I know just Rob, but between Rob, Carli, Sabio and maybe Uy(or even Omphroy) on defense + the young guns that excelled in the Inferno game, maybe we'll be more competitive this next game.

It's ok to lose in first game but here they should avoid it since this will affect our rankings. Current: 167 points Win +1 Draw -5 Loss -7 Since Gier is coming, our defense will be fortified. Does Sacapano did well in the Inferno match? I'm worried about our GK since he's short but he made great saves. Do you think R. Jonsson could come also? There is a wide space in Grindavik's calendar. Last Game - Next Game August 13 - August 21 Game Day: August 17

No idea how USVI plays or how strong they are relative to the line-up we have in the US right now. If our team plays for 90 minutes like they did in the 2nd half against the Inferno, perhaps they could pull this off or at least come out with a credible result. I'm still hopeful they could pull off a win here. With Rob Gier in the backline, our team's chances have improved.

I live in the CONCACAF region, and every time they've played (I saw them play 2x and didn't pay enough attention to their system or players), they sucked terribly......... IMO, it would be embarrassing if we don't win vs. them, as we Asian teams are way more exposed to higher levels of competition than any CONCACAF team will be besides Mexico and the US (+ some Central America teams). Then again, we have a makeshift squad when they kinda won't. I don't think they'll take us seriously though.

I figured we would lose to the Inferno(which has been mentioned in the inferno thread is not their real team), but I would really be disappoined if we lose to the USVI. They are worse than Guam. I predict we will be doing a lot better against the USVI, with or without Gier, maybe even be up by a couple of goals.

In this game I would like to see Gier in midfield (more of a defensive midfield?) so Weiss can test a young back four of Carli-Sabio-Omproy-Uy. We need to develop a young backline for PH.
At the midfield I would like to see Reichelt-Gier-Gonzalez-Portiera?
And up front Wolf and god only knows Im blank at this point?
Overall Sacapano Carli---Sabio--Omphroy-Uy Reichelt---Gier-Gonzalez---Christiaens Wolf-----Blank?

cjeagle and veryfatchocobo, thanks for your insights on the USVI. In that case, it's a must-win situation for the team. Our team better not be complacent, they have a tendency to do that against weaker opponents or when they start getting the upper hand.
jvictor, I would rather have Gier in the backline. I think they need an "old hand" there getting them organized, shouting at them to keep them focused and acting as a leader at the backline. It's just my opinion but I think Sabio is someone who needs or does better with an experienced partner in central defense who's got leadership qualities like Aly, Juani Guirado or Rob Gier. I think a veteran by his side helps Sabio settle into his game and gets better performances out of him. I don't think Sabio is ready yet to take command and lead that backline, that may perhaps explain the nervy moments in the first half against the Inferno. Perhaps in the future as he gains more experience and maturity as a defender, but definitely not at this time.
No Ian Araneta please, perhaps as a sub and hopefully when we're leading by a large margin.

About putting Gier in midfield... I think he's better off in defence. He's already found his place as a defender. Also, with all due respect to Rob, he's not the quickest man on the team to be able to play on midfield.

what's aly's status btw? I was wondering why he was not subbed in during the Inferno match.
