We knew coming in, based on the line-up Weiss chose, that defense can be a problem. Lesson learned then.

Vietnam is a sure to be in the semi-finals. I hope we can get the 2nd semi final slot and the Azkals be more cohesive in team play in offense and defense.
IMHO it does not really matter if we are number 1 or number 2 in the Group stage since the teams that will advance on the other group are really pretty much on the same level with each other.

that wasnt a case of lack of cohesion but the azkals were simply outclassed and out-skilled..if not for muller, score would have easily been 7-1..hopefully though these young azkals can still improve in the next few games...if not, well there's still 2013.. it was a case of a kots not content with defending the lead over a stronger opponent! that can be clearly seen by the mood of the team sa simula pa lang sa 2nd half, they still wanted to score! eh sino ba nagpaplano niyan? ang players ba o ang kots?siyempre ang kots!

The only consolation from that game was that Vietnam is the toughest in the group. Agree with curtlanceunited's assessment of Leonora. The defense played really bad, it's unbelievable how many times Vietnam continually played the ball behind the defense. We were lucky Vietnam wasted a lot of chances and that Muller had another man of the match performance. That 3-1 scoreline flatters us.
Hopefully they pick up their game in the succeeding matches. They also better sort out their offside trap, they left Muller exposed several times.

leonora? what the hell happened. he was all over the place on a negative way. i thought when he got cap in the senior squad it will boost his confidence. they were bombarding the right flank. leonoras positioning was really poor. other options of lb? it could have been 5-1 easily. thanks to muller and vietnamese players wasting opportunities. de murga was solid at the rb position

wenden96I think it all about experience..I know we have good players but if they don't have the experience they still sucks in international football. experience is not the sole ingredient, clearly in the game it is the cohesion is lacking cohesion is not in there...under 23 championship was done last May, i thought right away they will form a team for the training....well who knows what happen....

I agree, they should depend the lead instead of trying to score more. It reminds me of the Long Teng Cup that just concluded recently.

if your opponent has 70% of possession that means only one thing it would be a long day for the gk. you can only win with luck with that.

wenden96Maybe a few years from now yes we could be competitive.,.,but for now we need a help from our foreign base players. Just what happen to our U19 and U16,.,.,thats the reality of local players even though they have some foreign base players but thats it,.,.,try to check the results of our U16 and U19 and you will know where really Philippines are in this beautiful game. still for me it is not a full proof that is what we need.....why not hire a coach under a PFF to those kids...for sure you see the difference between the coaches of under 16 and 19.....and the selection is not that good..and when will to start to improve the locals?

my observation po, kulang tayo sa stamina. as clearly seen on mark. hartman. (no offense) great goal keeping, good work ethic for jason.

from what i read in one of the newspapers, Weiss said that the u23 azkals were composed more of defenders and not scorers. I dont know what happened in the 2nd half, but i didnt see any defending there. The defenders were defending empty spaces..ang daming vietnamese na di binabantayan kaya kawawang kawawa si muller.Tsaka may azkal ba dun sa right side? Mukhang wala eh kasi tingin ng viets, isang napakaling butas ang meron dun kaya dun sila umaatake.

if your opponent has 70% of possession that means only one thing it would be a long day for the gk. you can only win with luck with that. It's okay to let the opponent have 70% possession, so long as your defense is good enough to make sure they can't do anything productive with that possession. Inter Milan under Mourinho when they won the UEFA Champions League knocked Barcelona out of the semi-finals by simply stifling Barcelona defensively, letting them have possession and just making sure they don't get to create that many scoring chances. Unfortunately for our U23 team, the problem with our defense is that it was pretty bad and porous. We were lucky the score was only 3-1. It's not a good sign if we rely too much on our keeper to keep us in the match. Anyway, this is a learning experience for the youngsters and I'm hoping they step up. They rode their luck in the first half and ended it leading 0-1, that should tell them that they could compete with these guys. The 3-1 defeat will hopefully let them realize that they really have to work harder, much harder if they want to get to the semis.
