Hartmanns are totally overrated. Muller extraodinary. Dont blame Leonora so much. The bald Hartmann simply did not mark his man in the match," Slow and timid".

They should watch this game really well tonight so that they can see their mistakes and try to get better in the next games...if we are hoping for a medal then this match will serve as test for the semis since almost all teams that will advance will have the same kind of gameplay(better team work and ball possesion)

of all the the people to criticize regarding the game that flops....it is only leonora ang tinitira...oooohhh his a local kasi........what about hartman poor defense on the 1st and 3rd (i think he was the defender correct me if im wrong)goal.... anyways good game at least for a team that was form for a month...........a lot lesson to be learn.....it is for the viets they deserve to win thanks to muller saving the team from a massacre....... You're right wenden, it wasn't just Leonora. It's probably because his flank was the one that got ripped apart time and time again. Also, maybe because a lot of us here were quite impressed with his performance at the LTC so expectations were a bit high and he probably disappointed a number of us who were probably expecting more from him. To his credit, he had a number of very good defensive plays, individually. I'm hoping he'll bounce back in the next matches and the team as a whole get to sort out their defense. Still, the big picture. Vietnam is the team to beat in this group so I'm still confident we have a good chance of making the semis.

70% possession by opponent Not impressive defense [Except GK] Manny OTT [TY for the Goal] & others still on Jet lag Less than a month Preparation Ano pa ba hahanapin natin? Still a good play though may bukas pa

Yes, I noticed that too. Our players seemed a bit sluggish compared to the Viets. Well, they have 4 days to the next game to sort out the issues that need to be addressed in order to step up their performance in the succeeding matches.

agree. that inter team under jose can sit on a 1 nil lead with a great defense. but 70% possession man! your team should be something special to do that. i think that inter team won the treble. something special.

Muller Carli - Van Bossche - Matt H. - Leonora De jong Ott Porterio Christaens Mark H. Belayo Was this the correct formation the u23 had? Miss match ata si Leonora on that side I think the player he was suppose to cover was the Vietnamese Captain and I think one of there best players coz he was in the Vietnam squad that faced the senior Azkals last Suzuki cup...
I think the only word to describe about this game is that the u23 azkals were "OUTCLASSED" by a better and more prepared Vietnamese u23 team...

Not so much mismatch (alright, a bit, that Viet captain was pretty good) but also poor positioning that gave the Viets lots of space to exploit. Leonora would at times play narrow tucking inside towards Hartmann and leaving lots of open space on his flank which the Viets took advantage to race down to the by-line. Not to mention that the over-reliance on the offside trap and its poor execution that left the defense (on this the whole defensive line was guilty) stranded on several occasions leaving Muller to do the rest.
Like I mentioned earlier, Leonora had several good individual defensive plays. There was one instance early in the match where he anticipated and cut off a pass to a Viet winger. In terms of ability and technical skill, Leonora deserves his spot. He needs to step up in terms of reading the game and positioning, especially against stronger and more skillful teams, the exposure and experience he gains from playing in this tournament will help him in this aspect. I hope the coach sticks with him in the next matches.

SEA GAMES 2011: VIETNAM SURVIVE SCARE TO WIN FULL POINTSNOVEMBER 03, 2011 JAKARTA (3 Nov 2011) – Vietnam survived some harrowing moments before they were able to score a 3-1 win over the Philippines to pick up the full points in the opening match of Group B of the men’s football event at the SEA Games this evening at the Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno. The score line to say the least was flattering to the 2009 runners-up with the Philippines deservedly taking the lead in the 37th minute off Manny Ott before Philippines captain Mattew Hartmann’s own goal in the 59th minute put Vietnam back on track. Vietnam then scored two further goals off Le Hoang Thien in the 72nd minute and Nguyen Phan Nguyet in the last minute of play for the final score line. With battling midfielder Manny Ott joining the Philippines squad at the last minute, the team was spearheaded by Gerardo Valmayor and J. Moralo upfront with Roland Muller in goal. It was Vietnam who dictated the pace and rhythm of the game as they controlled the possession to create several chances with captain Pham Thanh Luong missing a sitter in the ninth minute before Anh Quang’s shot sometime later was blocked by recovering defender Martinez de Murga. But in the 37th minute, it was Manny Ott who gave the Philippines the shock lead where after a back flick from Mark Hartmann, the former shot in between two Vietnamese centre backs for them to take a 1-0 lead at the break. While Muller continuing to prevent Vietnam from nailing the equaliser with several excellent saves, it was to be Mattew Hartmann who gave the goal to Vietnam when in the 59th minute, he headed the ball into his own het off a cross from Le Van Thang. Frustrated, the Philippines tried to protect at least the one point which was within them but that too soon backfired when Vietnam piled on the pressure to take the lead for the first time in the game in the 72nd minute of play. Le Hoang Thien punished Muller when the latter came off his line to stop an earlier attempt from Nguyen Van Quyet. Van Nguyet then completed the frustration for the Philippines with the third and final goal in injury time. www.aseanfootball.org/?p=6545

let's cut leonora some slack. he played full time without sub along with a yellow card and cramps. it was really obvious that he's gotten too tired fending off attackers on his side yet, nothing was done by the coaching staff to make some adjustments.
i just miss barbaso in times like this. a great defender could have made a big difference. hindi sana sobrang naexpose ang GK natin. mabuti na lang, roland muller played great. he's a one man wall on his own most of the effin time.

Lol why is the "RACE" thing being raised again?? For Christ's sake, they are all Filipinos. And it just so happened that it was Leonora who was the flop for this game, and it was really evident throughout the 2nd half, he was sagging way to deep and was just staring at the ball coming towards him. For all of you who says that Leonora is being criticized because he's the only local playing on the Azkals Line-up, shame on you guys!! You guys are the one being racist. These players are all Filipinos regardless of their blood percentage. I'm not saying that the rest of the defense was great, to be honest it was only Carli who did an impressive job on the defense together with Muller.. the rest of the defense was way below mediocre. But I have to say that Leonora was the greatest flop for the game because it was so evident throught the 2nd half... COME ON GUYS!!! Don't be blinded by that "fil-foreign thing" .. IT DOESN't exist.. All of them are FILIPINOS.
