Now that the AFF has made the SEA games a U22 event, I decided to modify the title for this thread to U22/23.

22 March 2016 Philippines U22 captain confident of defeating Malaysia BY ZULHILMI ZAINAL Philippines U22 are confident of proving themselves against Malaysia U22, when they meet on Wednesday night in their friendly match. If host Malaysia Under-22 were unwilling to guarantee a win, their opponents on Wednesday, Philippines Under-22 have expressed a lot more determination regarding the match. Team captain Richard Talaroc told the media during the pre-match press conference in Seremban; "We are confident of defeating Malaysia. My teammates have given 100% focus on this match." From the get-go, head coach Dan Padernal also expressed the same level of confidence in the press conference; "We are not here for a vacation..., we are always excited to face the biggest teams in South East Asia." Although only two players from their 2014 SEA Games are in the squad for Wednesday's match, Padernal explained the reason for his confidence. "Malaysia don't always play well, and the new head coach is German, and I have undergone German coaching courses myself. "Malaysia will play an attacking game, but my boys will be expecting them, he explained. When asked by Goal whether his team will be composed of players who are only part Filipino as the senior team, Padernal responded in the negative. "The Philippine Football Federation has decided to go a different route for our developmental teams; the U16, U18, U19 and now the U22. They have opted to develop locally-based players, who are expected to deliver," he explained. www.goal.com/en-my/news/3889/main/2016/03/22/21580222/philippines-u22-captain-confident-of-defeating-malaysiaToo overconfident for my taste considering their opponents will have plenty of players with professional first team experience already in the Malaysian national league.

Malaysia U22 4-1 Philippine U22 FT
The Philippine's only goal is through a PK by Kanayama. I guess all the false bravado didn't do them any good.
Apparently there was no players from the 2 finalists in the recent PFF U 22 championships in this squad, and very few reps from UAAP schools as well, so I don't know how this could be considered the legitimate U22 national team. Most of the players are from PFF techninal director's Caslib's San Beda squads. Of course it is possible that many of the UAAP schools did not release their players for training camp as has been the case in the past. Nevertheless, I think they should also have recruited more of the players who have had experience in the UFL, as well as the finalists from the U22 championships to beef up the team since they were going to be able to face players with professional experience from Malaysia.

I think the better strategy should be recruit the best possible talent with potential regardless of where they play or if they're based abroad, as long they're Filipino then give them a chance to represent the Philippines.any chance of seeing Giann Magno,Malcherek,Posarelli,Harry Foll,Kevin Guerra,Raphael Obermair,a ndres Esswein,Winhoffer,Mathew Custodio,Patrik Franksson? PFF should be serious in forming the best possible team.as this is SEA games
