For the first round of WC qualifying based on performance in the last World Cup which we did not participate, we are seeded last in the AFC. All that means really is that we will be put in the lower bracket for the first round for teams seeded 26-46. We will be facing teams seeded 6-25 who are in the upper bracket. The top 5 teams : Australia, Japan, Korea Republic, Korea DPR, and Bahrain have all been given byes into the third round. Our possible opponents for the first round are: 6. Saudi Arabia, 7. Iran, 8. Qatar, 9. Uzbekistan, 10. UAE, 11. Syria, 12. Oman, 13. Jordan, 14. Iraq, 15. China, 16. Singapore, 17. Kuwait, 18. Thailand, 19. Turkmenistan, 20. Lebanon, 21. Yemen, 22. Tajikistan, 23. Hong Kong, 24. Indonesia 25. Kyrgyzstan. Our best chance to qualify for the 2nd round is to be drawn against opponents in the lower half or lower third of this group which we will be playing in a 2 leg home and away series. This is of course based on 46 countries participating. One country will get a bye. This above list will change acc. to the no. of countries participating. If Brunei which is under suspension is not included, there will be no bye in this list. This ones deep. I never knew it works like this for WC qualifiers. Countries from Middle East are to fast and they are also tall like our players. I think we have a better chance against Thailand, Singapore ,Hong Kong orIndonesia. I also want to see how we do against China. This qualifiers is not about winning it, its rating where we are against them big countries. We should get our best players for this games, from top to bottom. BTW was it Tajikistan we played in Iloilo/Bacolod before or Turkmenistan? that was a challenge cup qualifiers if I can recall. That game was muddy. I think it was in Iloilo.

Acc. to Chinese source, there may be a slight change in format. Of course this is all unconfirmed. This is the article from Football rankings: 2014 FIFA World Cup: Asian draw in April? According to an article on Chinese portal Sina.com.cn, the preliminary draw for the 2014 FIFA World Cup (AFC confederation) will take place in April. Thanks Filipino Football for the info! As usual, there's no confirmation on AFC's website, but that's the norm It seems Brunei Darussalam (suspended) and Laos won't participate. There's also a slight change in the format. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup preliminaries, the 8 lowest seeds advancing from the first round were required to play in the second round, while the other seeds involved in the first round were given a bye to the third round (the groups stage). Now, there will be a regular format - with less teams in the first round and more in the second round. Again, AFC won't be using the FIFA ranking. The Sina.com.cn article confirms the performance base seeding. First round First leg: 29 June, 2011 Second leg: 3 July, 2011 Pot A: India, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam Pot B: Mongolia, Palestine, Timor-Leste, Macau, Chinese Taipei, Myanmar, Bhutan, Guam, Philippines Second round First leg: 23 July, 2011 Second leg: 28 July, 2011 Pot A: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates, Syria, Oman, Jordan, Iraq, China PR, Singapore, Kuwait, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Lebanon Pot B: Yemen, Tajikistan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives + 9 winners from the first round. Third round Five groups of four teams. The draw will take place on 31 July 2011, with Japan, Korea Republic, Australia, Korea DPR and Bahrain entering the competition at this stage. _________________________________________ If this is true, there is a much better chance for us to get a good draw in the first round before encountering better opposition in the 2nd round.

Under this new format, we have no chance of facing Mongolia as we are in the same pot. Pot A nations will face Pot B. So we will only be facing countries in Pot A which in the new system means we will be facing countries who we will be competitive with. I bet that Pot A nations will be praying that they not draw us by the time April rolls around.

it is most likely that the afc system will be used for the asian wc2014 qualifiers. lately, the afc loved to act independently just to spite big brother(FIFA). based on this system, the azkals will only have three possible tough match-ups from pot a. these are india, malaysia and vietnam. second round will be tougher, its full of middle eastern and stan countries. if we're matched against singapore then the group stage is a distinct possibility.

Indeed, our best chance is to match up against our SEA neighbors in the second round. Though I admit that I know very little about the middle eastern teams. I'm just assuming they're pretty good. And if we make it far enough, going up against Bahrain would be our best shot at qualifying for the WC finals.

isipin niyo, malakas azkals. they're tall, talented, and most have international exposure. they just need time to gel together. pag nagkataon, we might give the best teams in asia a run for their money. pero matagal pa yun. years pa. for now, asa-asa muna but we wont get far.
