Just reading that we are going for the WC qualifier give me some shivers, I just remember one of my conversation with an Italian in a bar some years ago and ask me about our football team on why we are not in the WC and I replied to him maybe in 50yrs we can have a good team, coz our country is just so inlove with basketball (including me, just started to love football 10 yrs ago when I came to Milan, and also I'm an Azkal "bandwagoner") and the only news that I have read about the azkals during those ten years is the 13-1 beating from Indonesia. But now that I have my own national team to cheer on (I've experienced the excitement in winning the WC ,Italy won in 2006 and I'm horning my scooter at 1AM celebrating). So this qualifiers is very good experience for me as a football fan because in the past years i've experience the joy in winning everything there is to be won (Just won the treble with Inter last season) and now time to be possitive with the Azkals, the pool of our players are now as good as our Asean brothers. If we could advance till the last group stage is already a very good achievement. Plus we also heve the challenge cup to win for us to Join the AFC 2015. The future of Phil. Football is rising, I just hope we could stablish a good league to continue our players development.

Michael Ortelli just announced on his Twitter page that he's now officially both Filipino and French, having now acquired his Philippine passport. He says he'll be joining the Azkals in June. He's 21, left or right defender, and plays for Lyon Duchère AS, France, in the 4th tier of French football. twitter.com/Mikaortelli

;Dthat's true 2 players over 35 yrs old are still playing in the national team, considering that they are not superstars, unlike in other countries where they still use aged players to represent their country, as long as they are superstars(ex. zico, rumeniege, roger milla etc.).i'm not saying that the 2 over-35 players should'nt be in the national team anymore, but in reality there are better & more capable players(from the whole phils.) than the 2 over-35 players , if only the pff would be strict & honest on it's try-outs ;D

Hey guys, some posts are off-topic (rugby posts).
Would you want me to start a new thread about rugby so you can discuss it further without having to shift the topic in this thread? I can move all your posts on the new thread as well.
Say aye if you want!

Nope, just got off track a little bit. Sorry mod. Can't wait until WC qualifying starts and we finally see the complete team. With Schrock, Lucena and Cagara added to the team, I am quietly optimistic about our chances of advancing past the first round. Hopefully with the luck of the draw, we can reach the third round group stage where we could possibly face Australia, Japan or S. Korea. It would be a good experience for our players which they can use in future campaigns.

Latest news from Vietnam is Callisto might be quitting. He couldn' take all the flak he has been getting after the disaster in the Suzuki cup. Chalk one up for the Azkals and former coach McMenemy. vietfootball.blogspot.com/2011/03/calisto-to-quit.htmlSo we might be facing them in the first round with a new coach. Too bad I would have liked to see us playing against them in an open game and see what happens. Maybe with the new coach, the situation would be reversed with them parking the bus. (-: Beho, I agree about there being a lot more local players deserving to be on the team than the pair of >35 years olds that are currently part of it. Only if they are superstars who have played in established leagues both here and abroad and have sparkling resumes, should that be allowed. They should give younger players a chance to learn and develop while playing international games.

The draw for the 1st rd WC qualifying is on March 30 acc. to the AFC: www.the-afc.com/en/inside-afc/676-afc-news/33555-u16-u19-oly-wc-2014-qfiers-draw-on-mar-30They still haven't officially said which of the two systems I have discussed they will chose but I am hoping it is the second one(from the Chinese publication) as it will be easier. The first one which is similar to what they used in the previous WC qualifying had more difficult opponents to choose from.

cjeagle ;Di never thought that the old palakasan system is still being used in the tryouts, but since there are 2 over 35 yrs old in the team,i'm beginning to think that up to now there are still this (pare-pare) system in the pff ;D

Well inspite of my reservations on this older players, I trust Dan Palami's judgement in this matters. He is familiar with this guys as he sees them in the UFL all the time where his team plays. Maybe when the national club championship starts in a few months, a lot of this good players from the provinces can be scouted and be called up for the team. As Coach Weiss said in his first training camp, we need to have a better scouting system.
