;DThis is a response to Mr. Manolo Inigo’s column entitled “When the Azkals rage is stilled” which appeared in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Dear Mr. Inigo, thank you very much for ventilating your concerns over the decision to hold the World Cup qualifying game of the Philippine Azkals on July 3rd against Sri Lanka at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. Rest assured that we are mindful of the expenses that will be incurred in the hosting of this game.
We would like, however, to correct the impression that the funds to be used to prepare for the game will be that of our hard-earned taxpayers. The Philippine Football Federation (PFF), which is a private non-profit organization, will be investing in the refurbishment of Rizal Memorial using funds which have generously been provided to us by our private sector partners who like us believe in the potential of the Filipino in eventually competing on the world stage in the sport of football.
We would also like to assure you that the decision to hold the World Cup qualifying game in Manila was not made on a whim. Several other potential host cities and provinces were considered during the selection process.
We are and will continue to be grateful to the city of Bacolod and the province of Negros Occidental for being gracious hosts of the Asian Challenge Cup qualifier at the Panaad Stadium. It is, however, also important to bear in mind that as we strive to gain a foothold in the consciousness of the Philippine sporting public, it is only proper that we consider other deserving locations for hosting events like this.
The Azkals are not ours; they belong to the Filipino people who they continuously strive to ably represent. As such, it is our obligation to share them with as many of our countrymen as possible by holding their matches at various locales. Panaad and other sites in the Philippines will continue to be considered for future fixtures of the Azkals as well as the other national football teams.
We, at the new PFF, are more than aware that the opportunity that we have at hand to promote the development of football in the country may pass us by if we do not consciously and judiciously build on the success of the Azkals. It is with this in mind that we have made the decision to invest in facilities that will allow us to attract other countries to play in the Philippines for “friendlies”. At this stage of our development, it is quite difficult to do so given the state of our facilities. We will within reason and again with the backing of our corporate sponsors continue to invest what we can to upgrade our facilities. It is in line with this that it is just but natural to fund the refurbishment of a facility in the capital of the country.
We are not blind to the hardships that our nation and people face. In fact, we hope that a successful result in our tie with Sri Lanka can provide a unifying activity for our people to cheer for both team and country. And, as mentioned, we will strive to provide this venue without totally relying on taxpayer funds.
Corporate sponsorship does demand an adherence to certain governance standards to ensure the continued support of these generous donors. We have begun making changes to the PFF, as an organization, to promote efficiency in the way we do things while at the same time instituting financial controls to ensure transparency and accountability within PFF. These efforts have also been undertaken with the assistance of our corporate supporters and volunteers who have graciously shared with us not just their financial wherewithal but also their knowledge and expertise, their time and even their personnel. This is in line with our bid to professionalize the PFF.
The PFF has no choice. It will only be able to continue to attract corporate sponsorship if these generous organizations believe that their money is being put to good use. The PFF is a non-profit organization. Our ability to promote and develop the sport will largely depend on our ability to engender trust and confidence among our backers. It is imperative that we do this because the sustainability of the gains we have made will only be achievable through an honest to goodness grassroots program.
Developing a sustainable grassroots program will take time, effort and money. If the PFF cannot attract long-term support from those who support it now, we will never achieve our aim of finding future Azkals on a consistent basis.
Mr. Inigo, these are building blocks to building a professional and responsible organization. We will make mistakes along the way but we will learn from these mistakes. You do not have to take what is written here at face value, we invite you to visit us at PFF and see for yourself what we have begun to do. Hopefully by doing so, you will come to realize that we are working this hard to ensure that the Azkals rage will never be stilled. ;D mabuhay ang rizal football stadium! mabuhay ang azkals! mabuhay ang pilipinas!!!

thanks.... for my comment....mr inigo article is ok with me though it sound pessimist and sarcastic but his teeling the truth within the NT or any NT and the government (i mean that azkals survives because of the private sector support)....and for me some of the football fans love the football becuase of the matinee idol status of the half breed, not the game it self (though its good)....guys lets see the bright side masakit para sa atin basahin pero lets look on the side and hope mabasa ng elitista, negosyante and especially the dumb government that we had, na its time to support the football and not only the football but all the sports(baseball, basketball, athletics, softball etc) and he has the right to comment also... ???note: im not a fan of inigo ngayon ko lang nga sya nakilala hehehe... And so as the response of the PFF, it is very humble response....salute to the PFF president and staff

www.malaya.com.ph/apr12/sports2.htmlPFF pushes for PH-Sri Lanka match at Rizal Stadium BY BONG PEDRALVEZ IF the Philippine Azkals home World Cup qualifying match against Sri Lanka is held at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on June 3, it could draw a sellout crowd and generate as much as P5 to 6 million in gate receipts, according to Philippine Football Federation president Mariano Araneta Jr. "The demand for having the match at the Rizal Memorial stadium is high, and we are being swamped with inquiries even this early for tickets," Araneta said yesterday. The Rizal Memorial Stadium is one of two options for the match, Araneta said, the other being the Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod City. "We hope to sell VIP tickets at the main grandstand for P1,000 each," he added, "while special areas in the open bleachers could fetch P500. "Altogether we are eyeing P5 to P6 million from the gate sales." Araneta said unlike the Filipino booters match in Panaad last February, they will not give away free tickets since the association does not expect any subsidy from either the AFC or FIFA for the World Cup qualifier. Meanwhile, a reliable source said the Philippine Sports Commission has no budget to finance the repairs needed at the Rizal Memorial Stadium to enable it to meet AFC and FIFA standards. The same source suggested the PFF should solicit help from private sponsors to refurbish the stadium. When Araneta and national team manager Dan Palami inspected the facility two weeks ago, they found out the grandstand bleachers needed reinforcement while the locker rooms were too low and cramped. There was also a need for a proper media room for post-match briefings. Araneta and Palami suggested improvised air-conditioned tents to serve as the dressing rooms for the teams and found an area just beside the stadium for the media room. Araneta and PSC chief Richie Garcia are scheduled to meet today and discuss the playing venue for the World Cup qualifying match. Should the match push through, it will mark the first time since the 1991 Manila Southeast Asian Games the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, built before World War II, will stage an international match. _____________________________________ Like a lot of other countries, they should use this international matches to earn revenue to fund their programs. Now that interest has spiked, the more games we host, the more revenue they can generate, the less they will be dependent upon the government and sponsors. They can even raise the prices in the future to PBA levels and because of the larger population base can easily fill the stadium. Also if we can fill up Rizal Stadium, and still show to the government that there is still a demand for more seats from the public, this will encourage the government to build an ever bigger facility in the future. Rizal is just the more logical choice.

I apologize kung may na offend ako diyan. I am sure there are a lot of our fellow countrymen that can afford it in the provinces. Ang ibig ko lang sabihin kasi is that we have a larger population base sa Manila that includes members from all provinces hindi lang sa Western Visayas that can also have the pleasure of watching the Azkals play plus masmalaki and seating capacity sa Rizal so the PFF will have more revenue plus they don't have to pay the additional expense of flying the teams to Bacolod. I think naman na mas objective ang opinion ko kasi nasa Amerika na ko so it won't matter to me either way. I am just looking at the bigger picture for the sake of Philippine football.

Again mga kababayan, sorry po for the unfortunate statement that I gave. Even though I grew up in Metro Manila, both of my parents came from the provinces so I know how some of you feel about Imperial Manila. To those that I have read my posts in Filipino football back in December, would know how passionately I had espoused a national professional league that will take advantage of the natural rivalries between cities comparable to what we see in Spain(Real Madrid and Barcelona) that will help grow the sport in the country. Manila because of its larger population base can easily host several teams and that because all of the provinces will be represented in Manila will help fill those stadiums with both home and away fans.
