680,000 earmarked for training national footballers $680,000 earmarked for training national footballers The General Department of Sports and Physical Training has allocated US$680,000 for the training of Vietnamese national men and women football squads for the 2012 season. The women squad will have three domestic training sessions, and two overseas ones this year to prepare for the second qualifier for 2012 AFC Women's Championship, taking place from May 31 to June 9, and the 2012 ASEAN Women’s Championship, from October 10 to 23. Meanwhile, the Under-22 men team will attend the qualifications of the 2012 AFC Asean Championship this June to select qualified players for the recruitment of the Under-23 squad, which will compete at the 27th SEA Games. In December, the Vietnamese national men football team will participate in the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup, jointly hosted by Thailand and Malaysia. Under the plan approved by the general department and Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the national team will have four consecutive training sessions from August to November. They will also have two friendly games with Thailand, and attend the Ho Chi Minh City International Football Cup and VFF Cup, prior to the journey at 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup. “Thailand and Vietnam have agreed on organizing the friendly matches in Hanoi and Bangkok, as tests for the official formation to play at Suzuki Cup,” said newly-appointed VFF general secretary Ngo Le Bang. Bang added that the two countries’ football federations will work together before signing the official contract. Aside from the series of friendlies in June of which apparently the Chinese have confirmed sending its Olympic team on June 8, the Philippines is apparently planning on having 2 training camps(possibly one in the Gulf and one in Europe) in August and the Long Teng Cup in October, all in preparation for the Suzuki Cup in November as this article mentions: www.philstar.com/sportsarticl...bcategoryid=69

So there a hint about friendlies in August. I hope they play against national teams so that it will boost our standings. Playing against clubs is also perfect but national team is the best enemy for them. Still no plan for September friendlies. Ok. The friendlies for late year will be the crucial camps since that's their training for AFF Suzuki Cup. MAS will battle UAE and Qatar in their camp in Middle East (still no official announcement from their FA). I think they're really preparing to defend the crown. We must plan our friendlies in ber months wisely.
Here's the article cjeagle posted before Fired-up booters eye Suzuki Cup Final 4By Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) Updated March 28, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0) View comments MANILA, Philippines - With expectations running higher now as a result of their historic bronze medal feat in the last AFC Challenge Cup, the Philippine Azkals will make sure they are fully equipped and thoroughly prepared when they plunge into action in the AFF Suzuki Cup later in the year. Azkals team manager Dan Palami said the target is to once more reach the semifinals of the premier football competition among ASEAN nations, but stressed they couldn’t afford a “crammed buildup” like the one they had prior to the Challenge Cup. “We know if we have several months to prepare, so do the other countries, which means we have to be really focused (on the preparations),” Palami said during yesterday’s PSA forum at Shakey’s UN Avenue. The Azkals, who placed third in the Nepal Challenge Cup despite “not-so-ideal” preparations, will get back on twice-a-week training by April 17 to jumpstart training for the Suzuki Cup. The meet is set in Thailand and Malaysia in November. A 10-day camp in either Tagaytay or Cebu will be held late May to get them ready for three international friendlies set in June. The Philippine Football Federation has invited Indonesia for a June 5 fixture at Rizal Memorial, Vietnam and Thailand for a June 8 outing at the Panaad pitch in Bacolod, and China for a June 12 “Independence Cup” game at Rizal. So far, only China has confirmed but will supposedly send its Olympic team. “We’re also scheduling two foreign camps, one in the Gulf and the other one, we’re still determining where, likely in Europe, sometime August. And the Long Teng Cup (in Chinese Taipei) in October will also be part of our preparations,” said Palami. The milestone finish in the Nepal Challenge Cup raised the bar of expectations further, admitted the Azkals boss. “Even before we left, we already set the bar high by saying our target was to be in the semis of the Challenge Cup and of course everybody wanted to believe us but really the expectations were not so high. “But this time, I think we have to back up our words with really strong preparations and I think everybody in the team and all stakeholders know what’s at stake and what will put us to where we want to be,” he said. Palami said they are taking a two-pronged approach to sustain the Azkals’ momentum. www.philstar.com/sportsarticle.aspx?articleid=791754&publicationsubcategoryid=69

Fil-Spanish Azkals to reunite for Suzuki CupBy Joaquin Henson The Philippine Star Updated March 30, 2012 12:00 AM MANILA, Philippines - Fil-Spanish players Angel and Juani Guirado and Carli de Murga said yesterday they will suit up with the Azkals if called to action by coach Michael Weiss in the Suzuki Cup, also known as the Asean Football Championships, on Nov. 24-Dec. 22 in Malaysia and Thailand. The Philippines has qualified for the eight-team Suzuki Cup finals with Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. If FIFA suspends Indonesia on a charge of government interference in sporting affairs, three teams from the October qualifiers in Myanmar will advance to the tournament proper to join the five seeds. The Guirado brothers are set to wed their Spanish fiancées this year while De Murga has no immediate plan of settling down although his Spanish girlfriend Maria Flores, a journalist, arrives today to spend a month here. Juani, 32, marries his girlfriend Andrea Marijuan in Burgos on June 16. Angel, 27, ties the knot with Rocio Carvajal, who recently visited him in Manila for two weeks, in Malaga in July. The Fil-Spanish booters, who call themselves The Three Musketeers, are also teammates on the Global squad in the UFL. They battle Kaya F. C. on Saturday in Juani’s farewell match. The older Guirado returns to Spain on Monday. “I’ve been away for about two months now and I must go back to my job doing quality control as inspector of materials with Pepsi Cola in Spain,” said Juani who scored the marginal goal in the Azkals’ 4-3 win over Palestine to bag the bronze at the recent AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal. “I will never forget playing for the Philippines and I want to come back. I’ve won medals and trophies in the Spanish league but the bronze with the Azkals is special and historic for the country. I am proud to play for the Philippine national team and one day, when I have children, I will tell them how lucky I was to play for the Philippines. It is a big honor for me. Playing national teams from Palestine, India, North Korea, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan is a new experience and I’m grateful for the opportunity.” When Juani returns to Spain, he will reenlist with his Division III club and resume his work at Pepsi Cola. “Jobs are difficult to find in Europe,” he said. “Life is hard. Andrea and I plan to come to the Philippines in October and we’d like to just take a vacation for two weeks. I haven’t seen how beautiful the country is and I couldn’t even go to visit my grandfather in Isabela. I will stay on until the end of the Suzuki Cup. Will I consider living in the Philippines? You can never tell. It will depend on opportunities. I have cousins, uncles and aunts in the Philippines but my parents are in Malaga.” Angel said he is excited to continue playing with the Azkals. “We’ve improved so much since I first joined,” he said. “That’s because we’ve become more familiar with each other, gaining more experience as a team. We face a very complicated situation because so many players come from different countries and we get together only for a few practices before playing a tournament. But little by little, we’re improving. Coach Michael has done a very good job of getting us to play as a team.” De Murga, 23, said his older brother Antonio, 25, is recovering from two knee football-related injuries and plans to try out with the Azkals. “Playing for the Philippine team is an honor because it is my mother’s country,” he said. “I really miss Spain. That’s why I spend all my money eating in a Spanish restaurant (Barcinos). When the UFL ends, I’ll go back to Cadiz. I hope to return to play with the Azkals in October or maybe come earlier.” De Murga’s mother Jacqueline Olaivar is from Quezon City. She migrated to Spain nearly 30 years ago and met her husband Antonio while they both worked in a supermarket. “Although I miss Spain, I love the Philippines,” said De Murga. “I found out about the Azkals through Angel’s Spanish league teammate who is my friend. I contacted Angel in the internet and came over for a tryout. I enjoy playing football and I think the UFL is very competitive with a lot of good players like my Azkal teammates James and Phil (Younghusband) and the others. I’m glad I’m playing with Angel and Juani at Global because I think in Spanish and sometimes, when I need to express myself, what comes out of my mouth is Spanish. In international football, the play is physical and even if I prefer the passing game, I know to survive you also have to play physical.” www.philstar.com/thedeanscorner/articlescontent.aspx?articleid=792519&publicationsubcategoryid=69

I'd imagine it'd just be like the OFC Cup (or however it's called) for them. They might be too strong for everyone else.

Australia can't join the Suzuki Cup this is because AUS is not a member of AFF. It's just an invitee of AFF.
"Australia is not a member of the AFF, but have been allowed to send teams to the youth competitions. Australia is generally grouped into the AFF association by AFC when conducting regional draws in international competition." - Wikipedia

LILIPALY ANXIOUS FOR AFF SUZUKI 2012 OUTINGJAKARTA (2 April 2012) – Recently naturalised Indonesian player Stefano Lilipaly is itching to see action in the region’s most popular sporting event – the AFF Suzuki Cup. The 22-year-old defender, who received his Indonesian citizenship last year, is currently playing for FC Utrecht in Holland’s Eredivisie. But he indicated this week that he had already turned down an offer from the club to a year’s extension to his contract. “With this latest development, it would mean that I am ready to attend selection for the AFF Suzuki Cup,” said Lilipaly. “I hope that I will be given more opportunity to turn out for Indonesia.” The preliminary round of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 will be held in late November in Malaysia and Thailand. www.aseanfootball.org/?p=8044So, Indonesia has another naturalized player who also plays in the Eredivisie just like our very own Paul Mulders. I bet Indonesia must have somehow felt threatened by our recent call ups. ;D How I wish we could have a complete line up during the Suzuki Cup! The title race is now starting to get very interesting.. ;D

Lumalakas ang IDN because they use players that don't have Indonesian heritage unlike us. Even though they were born abroad, they were FILIPINOS Tapus pag natalo sila sasabihin nila. Marami tayong naturalized players. DUH anu tawag sa ginagawa nilang marurunong na players nila. ;D Let's pray they'll be banned or fix the issue XD
Goodluck PHI team Just play and play to get the best results

Yup, Lilipaly has an Indonesian father. But I hope you know that IDN doesn't do dual citizenship, so he had to revoke his Dutch citizenship to be able to play for them.
But I think his involvement will be in jeopardy considering the situation the PSSI is facing.

I didn't see it first in Wikipedia ;D sorry hehe. my apologies. PHI allow dual citizenzhip while they don't. So it's very hard to decide for foreign based Indonesian players if they are willing to play for their respective countries or Indonedia. By the way, what happened to the case of Sergio Van Dijk? Is he already playing for IDN or still not? Anyway he's still young and his current club is better than Mulder's ADO Den Haag based on latest performance.
Anyway. If PSSI don't settle the issue before June 15, 2012. They will be banned from international matches (including the Suzuki Cup) like what happened to Brunei but the case of Brunei is government interference.
The PHI should plan major training camp before November, they should play strong teams for this. The Dubai training camp works for us to be strong and competitive during the Challenge Cup. MAS will be having a Middle East camp before the Suzuki Cup. (based on Wikipedia but no official announcement from their FA) BEAT THEM ALL

Caligdong vows to rejoin Azkals in AFF Suzuki Cup
Written by : JOSEF T. RAMOS Manila Times Azkals midfielder ‘Chieffy’ Caligdong, currently nursing a knee injury, vowed to rejoin his teammates and bounce back big in the ASEAN Football Federation’s Suzuki Cup late this year. Caligdong, 29, told The Manila Times Wednesday that although he played in the 2012 Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup last March 9 to 19 in Nepal, he is still recuperating from a knee injury he sustained late February. “I’m not yet 100 percent healthy, but my injured knee would be just fine. said Caligdong in Filipino. “I promised to work very hard and return strong in the Suzuki Cup,” said Caligdong in Filipino. Caligdong, who holds the distinction of being a home-grown Azkal said his team will do its best to improve its semifinals finish in the Suzuki Cup two years ago, when it finished third after beating powerhouse Vietnam, 2-0. “We will do our best to be in the finals and we’re hoping for the all-out support of our fellow Filipinos,” said Caligdong. www.filamnation.com/?p=24087
