I think we should start a different thread pointing out Grass root Programs alone, where it includes ways to boost it and ideas on how to implement it, trainings like that and also like how developing or developed football nations are doing it. And leave this thread for SEAG post and pre analysis only. (i dont know if its just me but i think topics here are all over the place. From the U23 performance, coaches and staff, foreign players, local players, grassrroots, corrupt officials, etc.)

bleachersbrew.blogspot.com/2011/11/on-all-this-talk-about-u23-team-and.htmlinteresting article, look specially for : "There are a lot of young players in our team and because of that we pay the price for that inexperience on the field . Except for the second half against Vietnam where they lost it completely after the own-goal of Matthew Hartmann and the team panicked, they didn't play so bad at all. During the second half against Timor Leste they showed glimpses of what they can bring. Now this is a team that needs the chance to grow. They get well along with each other and the spirit is there. That people are disappointed is only normal after the earlier boosts that we had a chance for the semifinals etc. if this was really the target than we should have organized this in a different way. But I wish the PFF would defend this team." couldn't have said it better .

Who will agree with me that our U-23 Starting XI and supersubs should be:
Muller
Leonora - Van Bossche - Basa - de Murga
Christaens - Ott - de Jong - Porteira
Beloya - Valmayor
Substitutes: Clarino for either Beloya ir Valmayor, Hinrichsen & Morallo for our wingers Christaens and Porteira

They still have Basa who is somewhat tall that they can plug in the CB position. I don't know what the coach (don't) see in him as he has started for the senior NT in the Long Teng Cup 2010 AND ASEAN football championship. He isn't without good experience. See: wikingandtheazkals.blogspot.com/p/2010-fixtures.htmlR. Fernandez also played CB, if I remember correctly, in the ICanServe tourney a few months ago. Despite the shortage of def players, we do have some he hasn't played. Honestly I don't think he is going to bench Matt, It's going to make the coach look foolish for giving him the Captains armband. ...or if he is really concerned about defense, heck, play with 2 holding mids. Whatever he does, maybe third times the charm, this team is really better than their record shows in my opinion.

"Lack of time, preparation, and, apparently, failure to follow instructions." www.malaya.com.ph/nov10/sports8.htmlwell, here are another set of reasons on why the team lost to Timor Leste... I don't really care what his reasons are. But I just hope he sorts them out before everything goes horribly wrong.. I don't want to buy the "failure to follow instruction" reason but i don't know if you've guys observed during the Vietnam match that the coach was teaching Leonora how to defend. his voice was really loud and could be heard on TV.. or maybe that's just normal, I'm no expert.. hehe I agree with you Wiking that this team is really better than their record.. We were just unfortunate that we lost to the previous matches against better teams, though it was winnable, they just came up short. and have you guys seen the Vietnam - East Timor match? i thought Timor could've won it they were just unfortunate that they lost a player (2 yellow cards). They were Nil-nil during the half. Hope everything goes well tomorrow.. I really want to see a win!!

I agree and I'm speculating that the coach cannot bench Matt nor JDJ, for the reason that Weiss is pressured (by media/sponsors/football politics) to fill in both JDJ and Matt Hartmann in the starting XI which are sharing the same defensive Midfielders position and captaincy. He cannot put one as a sub, either way he needed someone to be out of position thus Matt became a CB. I would love to see Basa start to replace Matt.

Anybody got insights on our next opponents, the Laos team? www.malaya.com.ph/nov11/sports8.htmlSingto Lamnao is one of Laos' most prominent footballers and was one of the ambassadors to promote the 2009 SEA Games held in their country. He has scored in both matches the Lao U-23s have played so far, against Myanmar and Brunei. He also scored two goals in Laos' FIFA World Cup Qualifying First Round match v.s. Cambodia. He was also a substitute in Laos 2nd round clash with China PR. He is in momentum and has to be kept a close eye on by our defense. The other guy, Manolom, scored the equalizing goal v.s. Brunei and is part of the senior team who played in the FIFA World Cup Qualifying First Round game v.s. Cambodia and started in the 2nd Round game v.s. China PR. ------------------------------- That's just a small insight from me. Hoping someone more knowledgeable can contribute more information.
