May take on Bangladesh, and analysis...pls comment Bangladesh (Bengal Tigers) Head Coach: Robert Rubcic (Croatian) Former Croatian player Previously managed Croatian football clubs until he signed with Bangladesh last Sept. 2010 He prefers fast playing with lot of running during the whole match, emphasizing on the technical aspects He said that the national team will from now on play 4-2-3-1 formation, which fits the team best. People had expected a lot from Robert but he couldn't stand up to the expectations of the people as Bangladesh crashed out of the Asian games loosing every game. FIFA Ranking: 174 Key Players: FW Enamul Hoque, FW Mohamed Zahid Hossain Ameli View Roster: here Head to Head with RP: (1w-0D-0L) Goal difference: 3-2 (1984 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers) Challenge Cup record:Best: Quarterfinals (3W-2D-4L) Goals: 11 Since 2008: (3W-1D-5L) Goals: 10, Goals Allowed: 16 Analysis: Team Theme --- "Out to prove" The Tigers are a veteran team in the Challenge cup but they have only reached the quarterfinals (but better than the RP). They are a pesky team, and play rough. The Azkals have a lot in stored for them by this Bangladesh Team. Their country recently is still at a high with a good showing in the cricket world cup, so they are hoping that the hype would rub on the team. The Azkals will have a large frontline and I think our strikers are more skilled, and could easily penetrate their defense. Their goalie also seems to be not that good. Prediction: Azkals 3-0 Bangladesh (Aldeguer, J. Younghusband) #4 in the group ________________________________ As I mentioned in your blog , good preview perez. The only thing I wanted to add is that the Coach decided to leave most of his senior team home because of injury or lack of form and decided to bring a lot of players from the U-23 Olympic team that participated in the qualifiers recently. That is why they are so young. He is a good Croatian coach who knows the intricacies of counterattacking football. Our players are not only better skilled and experienced than Bangladesh but also taller and more physical. So i expect us to win handily with all this advantages.

4-4-2 diamond formation tomorrow according to Dan Palami, we had drinks with him earlier this evening. Hope our reporting is okay. Missing the Philippines but pleased to be of service to the nation and to football. Off to bed now but just wanted to check in and see what is being said here. The pre-match analysis has been sent already so I hope will be on www.pinoyfootball.com soon. Thanks for all of you who are following us on Twitter. Blessings. Acc, to Craig Burrows of pinoyfootball this is the formation(4-4-2 diamond) that the Azkals are going to use along with his projected lineup: footballformation.co.uk/team/442d/240311210701.pngwww.pinoyfootball.com/News/2011Mar24Thu185544As he mentioned in his article, this formation is vulnerable to counterattacks as he expects the outside backs to attack. Normally in order to avoid this the outside midfielders will pull back to cover the space abandoned by the backs but knowing chieffy and James who are both attackminded, Borrmeo , Del Rosario and Lucena must be alert to any such counterattacks and of course we have the Bus Neil Etheridge to provide us with a security blanket. With our size and skill, we should be able to take advantage of the service that will be provided from the flanks. Of course with forwards like Araneta on the receiving end, it might just all go begging. ;D I predict a 2-0 win.

we need to score goals fell azkaleros not have a wall defence neil will do just fine no need for 4 defenders and only 2 strikers dont get alot of scoring chances when all your players are in your own zone defending !!!!!!

I am sure we will spending most of the time attacking as the Bangladesh team will just stay back and look for counterattacking chances. We just need to be alert for those and get back as fast we can. We need to win so we will push forward.

...no need for 4 defenders... With the 4-4-2 diamond formation, the two full-backs push forward. They're not really waiting idly for enemy attacks. With that, I realise why Weiss does not put Del Rosario with Aly in central defence when Gier is not around! It's because Anton is good at pushing forward! ...or am I wrong?

More Previews Scouting the Opponent: Bangladesh FIFA Rank: 174 (38th in Asia) Previous Encounters: (0-1-0) 1984 Asian Cup qualifiers Bangladesh 3-2 Philippines Recent Results: 16/02/2010 v. Tajikstan W (2-1) 18/02/2010 v. Myanmar L (1-2) 20/02/2010 v. Sri Lanka L (0-3) 21/03/2011 v. Palestine L (0-2) 23/03/2011 v. Myanmar W(2-0) Challenge Cup Squad: Bangladesh's senior side hasn't played an official match under newly appointed Croatian manager Robert Rubcic. Their last games were the 2010 AFC Challenge Cup finals where they shocked 2006 winner Tajikstan in the opening game only to lose their next two games. The Olympic side recently lost to Kuwait over two legs (0-2, 0-3) and that is where the majority of the players will be drawn from. Rubcic has had some sharp criticism for the older players omitted from the squad. Key Player: It would seem that Bangladesh are in the midst of a rebuilding phase. Many of the experienced players included in the squad haven't been at their best with their clubs. The inclusion of many U23 players by Rubcic is an attempt to retain some chemistry in the side. Rubcic has admitted that the other sides in the group are much stronger than his and is expected to set his team up to play on the counter. If the team is to stand any chance of qualifying it will need its 23 year-old star and captain Mohammed Ameli to rediscover his form. If indeed it is going to be a DIAMOND 4-4-2 it's not going to be a narrow diamond.
If cjeagle's diagram will prove to be correct (and I think he's got his line-up of players right) notice that he has Chieffy and James on the sides of his diamond.
Chieffy and James are wide players who tend to hug the sidelines. Thus, you're bound to have a much wider triangle roughly,
------------X-------------------X------------
---------------------X-----------------------
--X--------------------------------------X--
--------------------X------------------------
---X-----------------------------------X---- -------------X------------X-----------------
-------------------GK-----------------------
Obviously, such a wide diamond would mean a bigger workload for Lucena and Aldeguer.
------MIDFIELD BATTLE
Expect more midfield battles.
Since Bangladesh only needs a draw to progress, they will look to clog up the midfield (any variation of a 4-5-1 will do) and if they do... i fear a wide midfield diamond will simply not work.
-----KEEPING COMPACT The key would be to keep our shape compact.
So yes, a NARROW midfield diamond would work (if you can keep Chieffy and James from drifting out wide). In a narrow diamond, the two players on the sides (where we expect Chieffy and James to play) are called carilleros or shuttlers. They don't play as wingers.
The width in a narrow diamond is provided by the fullbacks bombing forwards.
So if indeed we end up playing a narrow diamond expect Jonsson and Borromeo to play high up the sides and to be the ones raining crosses.
So what ever formation Weiss decides on the key factor would be on how compact he can keep his team on the pitch. If he wants to play a passing game the Azkals have to stay compact. If he wants to win midfield battles the Azkals will have to stay compact.

If Azkals are planning to attack crosses in the air, Araneta has to be definitely in the mix. He seems to be more accurate with his head than his feet. LOL !!

a draw DOES NOT GUARANTEE qualification for bangladesh.
myanmar can still squeeze through with a 2-goal margin vs palestine, very very difficult but not impossible. miracles happens... their at home, the crowd and a football-loving mlitary junta could really help. football passionate hotel chefs could sometimes make mistakes on their food preparation...and it could be really bad to the players. (neil?) hahahaha

After watching Myanmar-Phils., I noticed that our problem is OURSELVES. Gigil na gigil sila. Nagmamadali!

had just seen the Myanmar vs Philippines game. I notice a good game chemistry between Aldeguer and Barsales so definitely would love to see them as our 2 fwd Striker in 4-4-2 form. The Azkals performance wasn't pleasing to watch in the beginning, they really need to work on their speed. Espinosa didn't impress me at all, Araneta should be bench. After the playoff I seriously think Azkals should keep away from the limelights, focus on more intense and extensive training in preparation for the world cup. It would also be nice to include some young blood on the field giving them a good grasps of the game. I hope the Azkals will be in great shape tonight and goodluck to everyone. Keep up the good work boys.

I was hoping for Yannick Tuason to play instead of Araneta. I believe he is more composed than Araneta inside the box. Right now Araneta feels he must score to be a Hero and to end all the criticism specially in this very crucial/important game! That means he "MIGHT" hug the ball and wont notice open men... IMHO!
