I don't want to personally blame Gener. Coach Weiss's decision to park the bus with so much time remaining was plain stupid... It wears out our players because they have to deal with a lot of pressure. If only we tried to be less defensive after scoring that goal, we could have scored more goals. We should have parked the bus with less than 10-15 minutes before the final whistle and not park for an hour. Plain stupid!! Minus the "stupid" word, I think your point is valid. Coach Weiss' thought on resiliency was greatly tested here and he failed the test. Still, I commend him for bringing us this far, but a real experienced coach would have sealed it for the Azkals in such kind of situation.

Our roster of midfield subs were very slim that's why we had no one to replace Chieffy with. Sabio wasn't 100%, the only viable replacement was Moy. Our bench is still shallow.

it should have been ok to park the bus...but only if you lead by 2 goals minimum I think. It should have been ok to park the bus, if we can play really good possession football...
Anyway, with their limited experience in these kind of pressure at this point of the tournament, the boys gave their all...they can only get better. Heck, the team even did not seem to belong here considering the teams they were grouped in...Congratulations Azkals...

Oh Well! At least we learn something from this painful loss. We still have that battle for 3rd place on Monday and Phil could win the Golden Boot Award so there are still a lot of things to be happy about. Kudos nonetheless!

So who's our GK for Monday? Sacapano?
PLE - matatangkad mga players jan eh. Kawawa si Sacapano nito. Neil's absence is a big blow for us in the last game.
Conclusion: 1. Malaking kawalan sina JYH at A. Guirado. 2. Konti pa to reach TKM's speed. 2009 5-0, 2012 2-1. At least it's improving.
Can we call Roland Mueller???

Heads up, people. It was a heartbreak, but look at the brighter side. We may replicate the heartbreak at the 2010 Suzuki Cup, but I believe this will not happen again when we ply our trade again at the 2012 Suzuki Cup.
You may say, we should have joined the 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers this year. I'm sorry to tell that AFC rules tell us that "emerging" countries (which the Philippines is currently in) are not obliged to join the AFC Asian Cup qualification and instead must compete for the AFC Challenge Cup to qualify for the Asian Cup.
We still have hurdles to go again before we could get into the 2014 Challenge Cup. But now, we will not go into the pre-qualifying stage this 2013 because I believe the AFC has already thought of placing the Philippines into the higher-seeded teams because of this great performance we did. We will directly go to the group stages.
We have no way but up in this glorious run to pride in world football. We will bounce back.

last goal was disappointing. it wasn't just gener. too many guys were caught ball watching with 3 or 4 blueshirts getting embarrassed by one Turkmenistan player.
Neil will not be able to play for the 3rd place game after that red card. Frustration perhaps led to that foul or maybe he didn't want to play the game on Sunday.
Next up Suzuki cup 2012. Looking forward to seeing Denis Wolf, Patrick Reichelt and other reinforcements join the squad.

Neil's red was pretty stupid, but then again he shouldn't have kicked out at the guy. I could understand his frustration though. Actually that kick of Etheridge is for his teammate Gener, but he could not do it to a fellow Azkal so he just did it to an opponent. ;D But kidding aside, the Azkals deserve our praises. I think their other game in home turf against Cristy Ramos will face stiff competition from the Azkals, dito nila ibubuhos lahat ng galit nila!

In just a year, we have progressed a lot. And in the coming 2012 Suzuki Cup, we'll be a lot stronger. Even stronger than our Challenge Cup squad. So still a lot of things to look forward to, plus we still have that new Official outfitter due by April.

If we can afford to get a better coach, then why not? .. Coach Weiss has done great things for our team but if we can get someone who can put us to greater heights then I'm always open for that idea.

Can he be replaced just like that? IIRC, he was part of that $500,000 German Football League assistance package. In other words the DFB pays for his salary here. If we get rid of him we better make sure we have the money to pay someone with a bigger reputation and higher credentials.

As some of the other members have already said. We parked the bus too freaking early. We should've searched for a 2nd goal. Subbing Caligdong with Gener and putting him at LB was another huge mistake IMO. He contributed absolutely nothing in the game.

It's not the coach, we need a a more stable lineup of players that we know can play together regularly even in 2nd-tier competitions like the Challenge Cup. The team that played today was like 33% only of our dream team.
