it's a close result, i guess Deyto's heroics helped the scoreline look that close. let's wait for the match report

No match reports yet? Looks like Deyto did a hell of a job but I wonder how the back four did too.
and Mark Hartmann given the captaincy, wow! he deserves it, hope he's matured though.

benzgm here's one www.goal.com/en-sg/match/108586/singapore-under-23-vs-philippines-under-23/report------ from fans who watched live in SG twitter.com/dandeliondoodle "we still have lots to work on - communication, passing, control - but it was a very good try from the u23 boys. pretty good defending from the back 4; no. 5 & no. 29 worked hard the entire game; sg saw more of the ball though we had 1-2 good chances; when they string up some good passes going forward, it fizzles when it comes to the final third they definitely have to play more games together to gel but we have a bright future with this team sg hit the crossbar twice" twitter.com/DaveEvans72 "Our #U23 boys need more games;disorganized. In the 2nd half they improved. ung iba naghihintay Lang Ng bola. Hartmann was the most hardworking,he was all over the pitch fighting for the ball. I don't know if he was the captain pero sya nag motivate sa lahat."

Singapore cruise to 1-0 win over Philippines in U23 friendly - Singapore U23 registered a 1-0 victory against Philippine counterparts at Hougang, bouncing back from their 1-1 draw over Indonesia - SINGAPORE, 13 JUNE 2013: V. Sundramoorthy was delighted with the result beaming at the scoreboard at Hougang Stadium as the Under-23 eased Philippines to a 1-0 triumph. The Lions had the better start, with many wicked chances. The first early opportunity came from LionsXII midfielder Fazli Ayob in the 16th minute when his half-volley rattled the top of the crossbar. The return ball was disappointing as it sailed wide. Izwan Mahbud had made three brilliant saves to deny the Azkals a goal, and four minutes later, the Lions successfully made their hard work pay. Air Safuwan Baharudin headed home a corner taken magnificently by Fazli in the 24th minute, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Syafiq Zainal could have added more goals for Singapore Under-23 but his misfiring efforts from long and short ranges just could not find the back of the net. 28th minute on the clock, his shot from 30 yards out went straight into the keeper’s hand. A few minutes before half-time, his shot collected easily. Captain Hariss Harun also could have added more to the tally when his powerful shot sailed over the crossbar, similarly for his header in the 42nd minute. The Lions had superiority in possession, and the half-time was slim at 1-0 in favour of Singapore. Two chances were made for Singapore: Nazrul Nazri ON Fazli Ayob OFF, Gabriel Quak ON Faris Ramli OFF. The second half was a little more aggressive, as the Lions won a free-kick in the 48th minute. The Philippine defence grew confidence and smacked it away, and two minutes later, Nazrul Nazari was the first player to be booked after some sloppiness by the home side. The Azkals also won a corner in the 55th minute, but their effort did not trouble Izwan Mahbud. However, Shakir Hamzah went into the referee’s book for halting play. The Lions continued to stay disciplined tactically, and held on to their 1-0 lead an hour into the game. The Lions won another free-kick in the 67th minute, but it was easily dealt with. There were no real chances but the Lions are pressing hard to cruise to a bigger lead. Singapore almost claimed their second goal when Gabriel Quak notched home a cross from Aqhari, but was ruled offside seconds later 70 minutes into the game. With twenty minutes left to play, V. Sundramoorthy made the third substitution, Randy Pay charges into the field for Syafiq Zainal. Hariss Harun was the third player to received yellow after kicking the ball away when the referee had called for a foul earlier. The game had tremendously slowed down, as both teams are kept busy in the middle of the park. End-to-end play was disrupted very quickly by the respective domains, and the Lions look set to bag and maintain the 1-0 scoreline to the end of the match. Sundram made the fourth substitution in the last few minutes of the friendly, with Safirul Sulaiman covering for Aqhari. Sundram opted for fresh legs to keep the Lions in play, and it worked beautifully for him. The forward Randy had sunk back a little, to mobilise with the midfielders. Gabriel Quak had another chance to redeem himself, but his shot was clutched easily by the Philippine custodian. The final chance fell onto Randy Pay, whose shot went high and wide – not goal bound at all, and the final whistle came shortly afterwards! The match ended deservingly a triumph for the Lions, which should have scored more counting on the opportunities they had had. www.exclusinga.com/2013/06/singapore-cruise-to-1-0-win-over-philippines-in-u23-friendly/

At least having these kind of things will be encouraging for the development of the national pool. 2. If Mark Hartmann wants to be back in the senior national team radar, which some seem to clamor for, this is one way to do it. Being named as a captain helps with the maturity process. He isn't perfect yet, but it is something worth noting.

got this from a Singaporean football page SNOC secretary-general Chris Chan told ST that selectors are unlikely to consider yesterday's victory over the Filipinos as they are not "formidable opposition".

Team sports athletes out of SEAG listMANILA, Philippines - Contingents from team sports – including the fancied men's basketball squad – didn't make the initial number of 200 athletes the Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission Southeast Asian Games task force is considering for the coming SEAG. Chef de mission Jeff Tamayo said around 120-130 of this number fall under the criteria (gold and silver medal credential and potential to win) while they left a "space" of 60 slots open for those still trying to justify their inclusion in the contingent. One of those missing was basketball as the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has yet to submit its entry to the task force. Confusion on basketball's participation in the SEAG arose yesterday when a secretary from SBP supposedly told the POC body they are no longer sending a team. But SBP deputy executive director Bernie Atienza dismissed the reported pullout. "Firstly, we'll not make an official announcement through a secretary. Any official statement will come from MVP (SBP president Manny V. Pangilinan) or executive director Sonny Barrios," Atienza said, adding the secretary went to the POC office merely "to submit documents for the Asian Youth Games." He reiterated that they haven't received any formal communication from POC regarding the latter’s position on team sports. "We're still waiting for the POC's official stand whether they will recommend sending a basketball team or not. If they say yes, we're ready to send a team and if they say no, we'll cooperate." The POC and the PSC, considering the sports and events on tap in Myanmar, had earlier expressed their inclination to field a lean delegation and not prioritize sports that entail numerous athletes (and bigger funding) but only stake one medal.According to Tamayo, the task force included 30 slots for dragonboat, all of whom are gold medal potentials. However, football, which seeks to send men's and women's teams and a futsal squad, has been virtually ruled out, along with volleyball as Tamayo said "they can't guarantee gold or silver."www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/06/20/13/team-sports-athletes-out-seag-listit's obvious that they don't want to give our football team a chance to represent the flag. they're not prioritizing sports that composed a number of players and football is one of that

I think Football and Basketball have enough financial supporters. All the POC and PSC have to do is let the kids play. This is about more than just medals. Geez.

Palami makes plea as Azkals face SEAG snubBy Karlo Sacamos June 21, 2013, 03:27 pm The phenomenal growth of football in the Philippines alone should be enough reason to send a national squad to the Southeast Asian Games this December in Myanmar. There have been reports that the Philippine Sports Commission is not keen on sanctioning a football and volleyball team to the biennial sports event, with chief of mission Jeff Tamayo saying “they can’t guarantee a gold or silver.” Football in the SEA Games is played among under-23 booters and the Philippine team finished last among six teams in Group B in the 2011 edition in Indonesia. But Azkals manager and national teams committee chair Dan Palami is adamant a football team deserves to go to the Myanmar Games. “If there’s a sport that we should not stop from joining, one of them should be football because it’s gaining momentum for us. This is something our under-23s are looking forward to and they will be preparing for that,” he said. “Costs will be shouldered by private entities anyway so the government will not have to bear the burden of subsidizing the costs,” the 43-year-old entrepreneur from Tacloban added. “I see no reason why they should not be sending football teams there.” The Philippine Football Federation is planning to send men’s, women’s, and futsal squads in the upcoming SEA Games. The PSC earlier expressed its plan to send a small delegation to the SEA Games. And PSC commissioner Jolly Gomez on Wednesday admitted the country’s sports governing body is focused more on preparing teams for the Asian Games next year. “We’re discussing the Southeast Asian Games delegations and the problems of team sports. When you’re looking at team sports, we’re actually looking more toward next year in the Asian Games,” he said. www.spin.ph/sports/football/news/growth-of-philippine-football-should-be-enough-criteria-to-send-squad-in-sea-games-says-azkals-manager
