www.malaya.com.ph/apr04/sports2.htmlFil-Dutch midfielder in hot water BY BONG PEDRALVEZ UNLESS he plays it straight, Filipino-Dutch midfielder Jason de Jong may miss future assignments for the national team, according to coach Hans Michael Weiss. "I don’t know if I will consider him (De Jong) because of lack of discipline," Weiss said shortly before leaving for Germany to personally recruit players for the Azkals’ Asian World Cup qualifying series against Sri Lanka in June. "A player on the national team can’t behave like him," added Weiss of De Jong, 21, although he declined to elaborate what the problem was with the mid-fielder. Playing as the "enforcer" in midfield, De Jong was a vital cog in the Azkals’ successful campaign in last year’s AFF Suzuki Cup where the country reached the semifinals of Southeast Asia’s men’s football championship for the first time in its 14-year history. De Jong was also apparently giving problems to his Indonesian ballclub Persiba Balikpapan, which signed him up for $80,000 for the rest of the Indonesian Super League. Indonesian news reports said De Jong was sanctioned by his club recently after he reportedly threw a fit and left the stadium when he was benched by coach Haryadi in a match against Arema. After seeing action in the opening leg of the Asian Cup Challenge match in Mongolia last Feb. 9 in Bacolod City, De Jong did not play in the second match in Ulan Bator and the ACC group stage tournament last week in Myanmar. Weiss said he had several options to fill in the vacuum left by De Jong, including Filipino-Germans Manuel Ott and Stefan Schrock, who play for separate squads in the German second division. "Ott will be ready by June 3 and is presently close to breaking into the first team. He will be match fit," said Weiss, referring to the 19-year-old midfielder who suits up for Inglostadt.

;Di was right all along that de jong i s having a rift with coach weiss. i'm no t really impressed with the way dejong plays anyway so it's the least of my worries,& as the article indicates there are several players who are capable of replacing dejong from the azkal's line-up, i guess we've seen the last of him as an azkals. ;D

Still 19 and already making his way to the 1st team of FC Inglostad. If you try to see vids of the Azkals in the AFF qualifiers, you'll see that Many Ott really has good long range shot.

Props to De Jong for his contribution. Then again we don't need some attitude problems in our team. We have Jerry Lucena now with more experience and with professional ethics.... my 2 cents

I was not impressed on how De Jong played. I was wondering why people really think he is good. Im also not satisfied how Lucena played, he is to slow. I cannot remember how Manuel Ott played. We really need somebody in the middle. You saw when Chiffy played the middle for a brief time during the Bangladesh game? he was able to move the ball.
Now about De Jong, he needs to put his act together if he wants the coach to recall him.

Jerry was solid in midfield and did some crucial tackles to the opposing players. The reason IMO why Jerry was a bit slow in Myanmar is that he didn't got acclimatized to the hot weather in Burma. Remember that he came from Denmark where its -0 degrees and to play directly a day after your arrival in a +30 degrees atmosphere must be hard for Jerry. But Jerry was still solid in Midfield nonetheless.

Re: Lucena. Also, we couldn't see the surnames in the kits clearly (in the videos vs. PAL and Bangladesh) so we couldn't know for sure where Jerry was or what he was doing all those times. Even the commentators in Studio 23 (or was it just one of them?) kept on praising Jason Sabio in one match and then realized it was Jerry Lucena all along.
Anyway, about De Jong, well, he really has to get his act together. What a waste. Good thing we have other capable players to fill in his spot.

I agree with Curt. I believe it was Jetlag and being acclimatized that made Jerry not in 100% form.
PH vs Bangla game having 3-5-2 form, defensive midfielder is very crucial. I believe Lucena Jonsson's peroframcne was very commendable. They handled the midfield defense tight and made it easier for the defenders.

He is not a lost. It is his lost. Anyone with attitude problem and cares more about money, if they dont change, remove them from the team no matter how good they are. And for me he is not that good, he is prone to error. We have allot of talented players here and abroad. This type of players is what we should avoid. No more excess baggage for Pilipinas Azkals please.
