==> random re phil and a free pass - I'm just not so sure; After having played a number of sports, some at a near-pro level, and in some cases getting knocked and cut just as bad if not worse (ice hockey)... I'm just not so sure... while it is clear he was a marked man all night, and the Thais never lost an opportunitry to throw an elbow his way... I just think his lack of effectivity goes back to well before this game. It just seems to me that Phil has lost the spark he seemed to have as recently as one year ago. If the problem were just this game, I might agree with you. But it just seems to me Phil has lost a step and it is telling in his game right now. I can't help but wonder if time on the celebrity circuit is taking too much time away from his footballing prowess...

I think challenge cup was just this march were he was awarded with the golden boot..

WOW.... How can you make a review without even watching the match? LOL!!! Umm sorry to break it to you but... Thailand did not pull a late winner. they lead 2-0 all along and we pulled a late goal to make the scoreline 2-1. so...what was this for? azkalfutboleros... please calm down. was referring to my earlier prediction in a different thread where I predicted the Azkals and Thais wud be tied for much of the game before the Thais wud score the game winner late on. Of course I saw the whole match, which I thought might have been obvious if you read my thread in its entirety. My apologies to you if you misunderstood my post, but perhaps you should show a bit more patience and decorum in your replies before posting such aggressive replies By the way just to be clear, my prediction was right Thais win 2-1, even if my thots about how the scoring wud occur were different.

random,
BTW, pare I am just voicing my opinion. Okay lang naman tayo ha. You are probably right about Phil Y pulling out bec. of injury. In football, once you start bleeding and it doesn't stop they usually pull you out and the hematoma above his left eye was getting quite big. In ice hockey as teddy said, they stitch you up, inject you with pain killers and expect you to play through the pain even though you have a sprain or even sometimes a fracture in critical games but obviously that is not expected in soccer.

==> random, you make some good points. However, I am still not so sure... 1) I saw the cross to Angeles and it was a great play. But again, I just felt he was not getting i8nto position to finish, much less running directly at the defenders like I remember him doing. The earlier friendly was against a weakened Singapore team, for example (taken from a post on this board) - "Already without the services of LionsXII defender Juma'at Jantan and midfielder Isa Halim, the Serbian (coach) now has to make do without forwards Aleksandar Duric and Khairul Amri" 2) I watched the Kuwait match and, well, plenty of PKs are missed but Phil scored so all credit to him. But, it was after all a PK. Then again Kuwait is a tough team so all credit... 3) We were all very excited to win the cup earlier this year, and it was a great achievement by the Azkals. After watching the matches and celebrating the great results with my friends I was somewhat annoyed by one of my mates who pointed out that the competition was not tough and that our highest ranking opponent didn't field their senior team but rather their under 23 team. in summary tho I must say that after reading your post and doing some further research on my own, I must say that there are compelling arguments in Phils favor. I am not yet fully convinced, but there is strong enough evidence to say that I should withdraw my previous comments about Phil, so this I will do. I have read various comments in the press about the coach's concerns about his fitness, but again I dont see him play/practice every day so without first hand experience we'll have to take those as heresay. So, for the moment I'll agree to withdraw my previous comments. Lets all recognize tho that this Suzuki Cup is where everyone brings their A game. I hope and pray that Phil does great, as well as all the Azkals, so I can once and for all be proven resoundingly wrong!!!

The final score flattered us. It did not reflect the Thais' domination of the match. I think it was a mistake to start Angel and Jonsson. Angel hasn't been playing much with the team recently and this showed on the pitch. With Jonsson, he did okay defensively, but again like in the recent friendlies, he showed no chemistry with whoever's in front of him. I also hated it that he pretty much always go for the long ball whenever he has the ball. That number 19 of Thailand is a dirty player. He also mistimes most of his tackle. His tackle on Lucena in the first half could have been a leg breaker. Also, didn't they show 5 minutes to be added? Then why was the match stopped in the 94th minute?

I really don't like Ray Johnson starting....He doesnt have creativity on the Right back...It looks like his position is always the weakest part of the back...Most the the attack of the Thais is in his side..And thais 2nd goal is because of poor marking..Looks like he lost his cool because of the 1st goal..Our midfield not doing well except for Lucena and Mulders.James and especially Chieffy should not start in the next match....I've seen chieffy providing...A very poor SHORT CROSS? hahaha..can't even pass the ball on the penalty box

I still believe we could get 6 points out of this group. That's the spirit the azkals way. I watched the game till the last whistle hoping for the equalizer azkals style. We still have it, we have to beat vietnam and thai would beat myanmar.

Jonsson was at the right side, the position he's supposed to be in, and notice that the striker moved to the center. Jonsson made that fantastic sliding block and the striker had to move to his left. If Sacapano had done better it would've been saved. But it would be asking a lot of Sacapano to stop that. Watch the play again. It was the last Azkal in the center. Not Jonsson. Nothing poor about the marking. If it was poor marking, Jonsson wouldn't even be close and the striker would've had a complete getaway. And as for the long balls, everyone was doing it. Cagara too. That was the coach's directive. You can't blame any of the players for that. Blame the coach.

Shifting topic, I was surprised to see how many empty seats there were in the Thailand Philippine match. Being a game involving the host, I thought the Thai supporters would fill the stadium, but it looked like the stadium was less than half full. Acc. to some in the media, maybe it was because of the lack of promotion as there weren't enough signs to indicate that the Suzuki cup was going on. Also, apparently there was a huge political anti government rally going on in another part of town that might be attracting the interest of Bangkok residents.

Re: long ball. Jonsson does that in all the recent friendlies, not just in last night's match. He also has zero chemistry with whoever's in RM.

Can't you read, it's already superfluous. Weiss has already claimed it was never intentional. Tapos na usapan, relax, hindi ako ang nagsabi kay Weiss na gawin niya yun . No need to be over-defensive about something. It happened already. You should be going after those trolls in the chat room earlier. I dunno if that "drunk" was only using someone else's nickname since anyone can use any handle in the room. hahaha.. who were those trolls? actually, if you have been visiting the chatroom, the trolling actually started during the SEA friendlies, Middle east friendlies up until now. There was an actual troll who frequently invaded the chatroom but he doesn't show up anymore because he gets trolled by the UF guys. Lol! It may be obnoxious for the new comers and those who don't know about it but the guys in the chat room troll intentionally to "jinx" the opponent. It's funny and it also kinda works.. ;D ;D ;D

Jonsson lacks dribbling skills, he always make that long ball as his first option when the opponents press up. we all know Carli and Demit is our best RB so far

Well I really did after he sent me a nasty PM when he registered on the site, even before he attempted to post on the threads. Anyways, me, Shanks and a few others would rather banter and "troll" with each other in Bisaya so we will feel fun and comfortable of ourselves. I don't like being secluded to talk in English and be soft-soft all the time, because I want to keep my Bisaya nature and Azkals fan blood flowing. ;D That's what I like to do in the live chat... and indeed it does work to "jinx" the opponent.

The score should have been 1-1. The 2nd goal was clearly a mistake in our side: nanggigigil tayo makabawi kaya ayun.. they were able to score again. Mejo lumabas din yung pagiging tentative ni Sacapano to rush for the ball kaya ayun naka-evade yung Thai player. But still I don't blame Sacapano after all did is one of his only few international game he was in and it was a lapse from def and mid as well. The longball still irks me till this day. I dunno if its just the gamestyle we are playing. I just wish the Azkals could play better possession day. Ang daming nakakapanghinayang na possession nasasayang. Well anyway, I'm still proud of them. The goal by Mulders made me happy coz I thought we can't be able to score against their own turf.
Well as for the Thais, yeah they have better possession game since theyve been playing together for so long. But honestly, I overrated them. Their pitch really sucks, it's comparable to Sri Lanka's. The Thai player resorted to sucky tactics. And the referees sucks. The Thais should have at least 2 players redcarded.
