"...70-75 percent impressed..." What does that mean? To me, that doesn't sound as good as it does to the author above. To me it sounds like they were not convinced, so little chance things will change for the men's U23. POC/PSC will probably play the "deliberation" game now, delaying any further decision until it is nearly too late to appeal. Lets see if the POC/PSC will be bold and decisive, come what may.

Pia Cayetano blasts sports agencies by Ryan Chua, ABS-CBN News Posted at 08/12/2013 6:42 PM | Updated as of 08/12/2013 6:42 PM MANILA - Sen. Pia Cayetano took to the Senate floor on Monday to criticize officials of the country's sports governing bodies for their reported plan to send no more than 200 athletes to the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Myanmar later this year. In a privilege speech, Cayetano also called for a Senate probe into preparations for the SEA Games, including the alleged decision of the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission to exclude certain national athletes from the delegation. Cayetano mentioned the POC president's reason that they are only sending athletes with "good chances for the gold," which was quoted in a Philippine Star story. "Something is fatally flawed in the criteria's logic," she said. "In one clean sweep, our policy now is to shut the doors for developing national athletes who could be in contention for just the silver or bronze this year, but may develop their skills and become gold medalists in the future." Cayetano added that the decision to remove certain athletes from the delegation robs them of the chance to prove if they are capable of winning gold medals in the first place. "And if they do miss out on gold, don't silvers and bronzes mean anything? It's saying to our athletes, 'It's the gold or nothing,' that silver and a bronze in the SEA Games amounts to nothing in our narrow appreciation of the medal tally," she said. Cayetano, herself an athlete, pointed out that athletes thrive and improve their skills in competition. She also said that as lawmakers who scrutinize the yearly budget of the POC and PSC, senators need a clarification on these agencies' plans for Philippine sports. www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/08/12/13/pia-cayetano-blasts-sports-agenciesthere you go Peping!

Kudos to Pia, finally a politician steps forward... will more follow suit? Will something actually get done? Is anyone proposing a resolution, mediation, or solution? C'mon politicians, climb off your pork barrel and do something about this! Time is running out...

I agree with Cayetano on this concern. We have to develop athletes who have potentials to improve in performance, not necessarily win medals, much less gold. The problem is that the POC leadership has been in the dictators' seat for a time now since PGMA's heydays. The POC and PSC's leadership has been the main problem in the Philippine sports which has not improved from the SEA Games and the Asian Games. Even our Olympic contingent have not improved in numbers for a while now.
The country's sport organizations needs a real good manager to run it and not a politician who wants to stay forever in his position. Or better yet, reform the organization into one that is directly under the Cabinet - the Department of Sports.

This is what we get when we have a professional politician at the POC rather than a "real" sports person as head of the POC. Peping should be ashamed of what he's doing. Go Sen. Cayetano!

This ends PFF's hope for the U-23 to be part of the delegation:
RT @olminleyba: Malditas part of 169-member Phl SEAG team that POC's task force has approved.
RT @olminleyba: Accdg to POC chair Tom Carrasco, U23 Azkals are out of the Phl SEAG delegation

POC SEAG task force: No go for U23 AzkalsOlmin Leyba Posted on September 27, 2013 Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) chairman Tom Carrasco, Jr. dropped the bomb after presiding over the meeting of the Philippine Sport Commission-POC Task Force SEA Games: It’s a no go for the Under 23 Azkals. According to Carrasco, the task force was not convinced of the U23 Azkals’ qualification and status as a gold medal competitor in the Games, especially with only one friendly – that played against Singapore’s U23 side that resulted in a 0-1 setback – as basis. “Wala tayong makitang basis para maisama sila sa delegation. Isa lang ang kanilang friendly game na sinalihan at natalo pa sa Singapore. Kung sana mga apat o limang friendly games ang kanilang sinalihan para may basis tayo. Nagiging patas lamang tayo sa lahat ng mga NSAs na dumaan din sa ganitong pagsusuri,” Carrasco told reporters Friday. With the U23 Azkals out, the Philippine women’s team Malditas will be the country’s sole representatives in the sport in the Myanmar meet. The Malditas are among 169 athletes that the task force has approved for the delegation after a series of deliberations. Carrasco bared that the POC is open for 68 more bets, who all have to prove their worthiness. This includes the Perlas Pilipinas women’s basketball team, which has to put up “a decent peformance” in the FIBA Asia Women’s Championship (Group 2) next month in Thailand to get the greenlight to join Gilas and the rest. byolmins.wordpress.com/2013/09/27/poc-seag-task-force-no-go-for-u23-azkals/

If they barred the U-23 from participating, then our football program is destroyed by those people from the POC and PSC They could also be barred from participating in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea too bad.
So this won't push through anymore? @jarongenota 4h "We received Japan camp schedule for U23 this morning from JFA + visa invite. Ayun, di rin pala tuloy. Sayang lahat ng prep. Ang saya." @jarongenota 4h "Azkals U23 was supposed to leave for Japan mid October for a camp plus another camp in November in the Middle East." JFA willing to help prepare but now doors closed by PSC - POC
My only question to the PSC and POC heads is are they willing to resign if they fall short of their projected target of medals? PSC and PSC should be replaced

PFF: POC ‘killed’ footballby Nick Giongco September 28, 2013 (updated) The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) yesterday slammed the decision of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) denying its request to participate in the Southeast Asian Games in December in Myanmar. PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said the decision will affect the federation’s visions and programs, adding that the Games is a vital part of their buildup. “The team has been preparing for a long time without any financial support from the POC or Philippine Sports Commission, not a single centavo,” Araneta said. Because of the POC’s “snub,” Araneta said the PFF will no longer send teams to the Games unless the current crop of local sports officials is overhauled. continue reading at sourceAraneta's frustration is understandable... but to no longer send teams to the SEA games...? but yes... those folks at the POC/PSC needs to be replaced. They're sending the wrong message to the youth athletes, not just the footballers.
